Chapter 35

The Troubles of Magic

Chapter 35 The Troubles of Magic

After receiving the notes, Ian did not immediately begin studying them.

Instead, he chose to return the previous books to the library and borrow several basic works on transfiguration all at once.

To do something well, you must first have the right tools. This applies to Professor McGonagall's Transfiguration notes, even if they are just notes from her student days.

Ian still needs more relevant books to help him understand the contents of the notes more deeply.

When he finished doing all this and returned to his dorm room, it was already evening, and his two roommates were having a heated discussion.

……

"Hey buddy, you always come back with books. Seriously, you remind me of Professor Binns, that kind of old pedant," Andrei said somewhat jokingly.

Ivy, who was standing next to him, chimed in:

"Indeed, life isn't all magic. The House is recruiting new Quidditch players this Saturday. Want to come and watch? Every year when new players are recruited, something funny always happens. Someone who's not even as good at riding a broomstick as my grandma is actually competing for the Seeker position."

"Okay, remember to call me when you two go."

Ian readily agreed.

Having experienced a second awakening of his magic, Ian's magic power increased exponentially. After that, he always felt that he had hit a bottleneck in learning magic.

This was especially evident during the first month of the apocalypse; reading and studying the entire book of "Standard Spells" only gave him more spells to master.

There is no change to the accumulation of magic power or the power of releasing magic.

What Ian didn't know was that very few, or even almost no, wizards actually have the opportunity for a second awakening. His current state was just the normal growth rate for a wizard.

"Okay, it's settled then. You should have done this a long time ago. Dude, it's getting late, and we have Potions class first thing tomorrow morning. I'm so fed up with that pungent smell in the classroom."

As Andrei spoke, he mimicked Snape's gestures and movements, as if he had suddenly thought of something. He then added, "But speaking of which, tomorrow should be our first class together. I've also taken Divination and Magical Creatures Protection."

Ian jokingly replied, "Haha, but Professor Snape is a true Potions Master; his courses are incredibly valuable. Since you can't fight back, you should learn to enjoy it."

……

For a month after the start of the semester, Ian followed the first-year curriculum. If it weren't for Andre's reminder, he would have almost forgotten that he also had elective courses.

To be honest, he was just getting by in the Divination class to earn credits, but he really needed to put his heart into the Magical Creatures Conservation class.

Cherish Professor Cattellbo's course; when Hagrid becomes the professor in two years, he doesn't plan to teach it anymore.

Compared to the perfunctory teaching of the other two courses, it would have been better to switch to ancient magic script. With two years of accumulated knowledge, he could at least learn something substantial in that course.

……

Nothing happened that night. There were no classes on the Ravenclaw first-year schedule in the morning, so Ian slept in for once, which was quite rare for him.

He was only slowly awakened when the first rays of dawn shone through the window into his dormitory.

Looking at the empty beds, the two roommates must have been genuinely afraid of being late for Potions class, so they left early.

After a quick wash, Ian headed straight to the library. He had been trying to figure out what the bottleneck was that was troubling him, and the slow growth of his magic power was making him feel like he had a bone stuck in his throat.

It's like someone who's used to taking the high-speed rail suddenly going back to riding a green train from the 60s; the stark contrast is almost unbearable.

Ian rushed to the Great Hall for breakfast and unexpectedly spotted Hermione at the Gryffindor long table. Ignoring the stares, he walked straight over.

Hogwarts doesn't actually have a set dining location; it's just that most people are used to sitting at the long tables in their own house.

Hermione noticed Ian walking towards them and quickly moved aside to make room.

"Good morning, Hermione. Do you have classes this morning? Would you like to go to the library together later?"

Hermione quickly replied, "Okay, we only have one class this morning, History of Magic at 10 o'clock."

Upon hearing this, Ian nodded and said nothing more, focusing instead on the sumptuous breakfast in front of him.

Just as they were enjoying their meal, a haughty voice, tinged with a hint of sourness, suddenly rang out beside them.

"Some mud... well, some people of impure blood who are lucky enough to come to Hogwarts should be grateful and stop thinking about how to seduce boys all day long."

Ian looked back.

The speaker was Daphne, a Slytherin student and a blonde witch.

Ian had met her before at Madam Malkin's Robe Shop, and he still vividly remembered how timidly she greeted him.

He just didn't expect that in just one month, he would become so arrogant. He really couldn't understand how the academy could change a person's personality so quickly.

Facing Ian's calm gaze, Daphne felt as if she were standing on a hot coal. Before long, she grabbed her companion and quickly fled the scene.

Are they talking about me?

Hermione asked, somewhat belatedly.

Looking at Hermione, who was currently in a slightly dazed state, Ian reached out and patted her soft, fluffy head, saying gently:

"There's no need to pay attention to them, and they're not even talking about you. They didn't mention your name at all. Who knows what's wrong with her?"

After leaving, Daphne, along with her best friend Millison, sat back down at the Slytherin table.

In fact, ever since their first meeting at the robe shop before the start of the school year, she had been attracted to Ian, who was handsome and elegant.

Especially his lonely and indifferent eyes, as if everything in the world was a painting in his eyes, his cold and aloof temperament fulfilled all her fantasies about what a real Slytherin should be like.

She was overjoyed when she learned that the other person would be attending Hogwarts. Unfortunately, the other person was ultimately sorted into Ravenclaw, but she was still very happy.

Through careful observation, she discovered that Ian did indeed prefer to be alone. Occasionally, when she mustered up the courage to approach him and strike up a conversation, he would give her a charming smile, say a few words from a distance, and then leave in a hurry.

If Ian treated everyone this way, she wouldn't say much, given his personality.

However, she noticed more than once that Ian treated this little Gryffindor mud-blood with exceptional favor, and they were often seen strolling and chatting in the corridors as a couple.

Especially today, as soon as I entered the Great Hall, I saw that the other party was sitting at the Gryffindor table, having breakfast with that Mudblood named Hermione.

Long-held jealousy and resentment at being ignored suddenly erupted in her heart.

That's why she said so many harsh things just now. She's very regretful now, since it definitely damaged her image in Ian's eyes.

Thinking of this, Daphne lost her appetite for breakfast and hurriedly left the auditorium that had made her so sad, leaving behind her cutlery.
