Chapter 19

Elective Courses

Chapter 19 Elective Courses

The Ravenclaw common room is a spacious, round room with a sky-blue color scheme. The arched ceiling is adorned with intricate star charts, giving it an ethereal feel upon entry.

Because the overall structure is circular, the lounge windows are also arranged at 30° angles, totaling 12 rectangular openwork windows, all of which are draped with blue silk.

Looking out through the glass, you can clearly see the main castle building and the Forbidden Forest not far away, giving you a panoramic view of Hogwarts.

A dark blue embroidered carpet, and rows of pine bookshelves filled with books against the wall.

……

Of course, the most eye-catching feature is the white marble statue standing in the niche directly in front.

This is a statue of Rowena Ravenclaw, one of the founders of Hogwarts.

The statue wears a faint, almost imperceptible smile, beautiful and warm, yet intimidating.

Above her head was an exquisite marble replica inlaid with sapphires, on which was engraved a line of small words: "Exceptional intelligence is the greatest wealth of mankind."

"Welcome everyone, my name is Putt Thomson, and I'm the prefect of seventh year in Ravenclaw..."

Ravenclaw students are generally quiet. After the prefect's brief speech and a simple welcome ceremony by the senior students, everyone went about their own business.

Under the guidance of their class leaders, the freshmen entered their respective dormitories one after another.

Ian also arrived at the place where he would live for the next five years, a standard four-person room in Ravenclaw.

My roommates hadn't returned yet, which was normal, since they were all third-year students and wouldn't obediently go back to their dorms to rest as soon as the dinner ended.

"This is your dorm room. It just so happens that the number of third-year male students in the college is even, so I'm sorry, you may only have two roommates."

The prefect, named Putt Thomson, explained somewhat apologetically.

"They might still be in the library or somewhere else right now, it's okay, you'll see them eventually."

Before that, there's one more thing I need to tell you. Professor Flitwick, who is also our dean, hopes that after you've familiarized yourself with your dorm room, you can go to his office as soon as possible to discuss any issues related to your courses.

By the way, the office is on the fifth floor of the castle. You just need to go out of the tower and follow...

Put's personality was clearly not that of a chatterbox; after he finished explaining what he needed to say, he turned and left.

……

Ian looked around and was very satisfied with his dormitory room. In the center was a large enough round desk that could easily accommodate four people at the same time.

Three sturdy single wooden beds were arranged in an equilateral triangle, with sky-blue bed curtains that exuded tranquility and elegance. Apart from that, there was nothing else cluttered, clearly indicating that the two roommates were also minimalist people.

Ian was not surprised by Professor Flitwick's notification; it was clear that Professor McGonagall had explained his situation to him after the Sorting Ceremony.

Because it concerned tomorrow's classes, Ian went to the office quickly after the prefect left.

Following the directions, we soon arrived at our destination. After knocking and receiving a response, we entered Professor Frivi's office.

The room looked spacious, but the actual usable space was not large because it was surrounded by bookshelves filled with rows and rows of books. Ian roughly estimated that there were at least a thousand books in the office.

"Mr. Titus, I know about your situation from Minerva. The reason I called you here, besides to give you a special schedule, is that I think you also need to hear a little of my advice."

Upon seeing Ian, Professor Flitwick got straight to the point.

Ian readily replied, "Thank you, Professor! And you can call me Ian!"

"Okay, Ian, since you haven't been exposed to magic before, it's obvious that the third-year courses aren't suitable for you, so you can only start by auditing the first-year courses."

My advice is to completely abandon the third-grade curriculum and focus on mastering the first-grade material this semester. If you encounter any learning problems during this time, you can come here to find me anytime.

If all goes well, I hope you can audit second-year classes starting in the second half of the year. This pace will be very helpful for your OWL exams three years later.

Professor Flitwick paused briefly at this point.

"And then there's elective courses. Yes, starting from the third year, students must take two elective courses, and you're no exception. So today you need to decide on two courses."

My suggestion is to choose two courses from the following: Fantastic Creatures Conservation, Muggle Studies, Divination, and Arithmetic Divination. These courses require very little prior knowledge, the exams are relatively easy, and they don't take up too much of your time.

After Professor Flitwick finished speaking quickly, he fell silent, clearly giving Ian a quiet environment to think.

Ian was also thinking to himself that he would immediately abandon the Muggle Studies course, as it was purely for getting credits and was a completely useless course.

After some thought, the answer came quickly.

"Professor Flitwick, I choose the Magical Creatures Protection class and the Divination class."

In fact, Ian's choice was the result of weighing the pros and cons. In 1991, the current professor of the Magical Creatures Protection class was not Hagrid, but Professor Kettleburn. Obviously, he could learn something useful from him.

The Divination class was purely to maintain his persona of revealing plot details; after all, in Dumbledore's eyes, he was a true prophet.

……

"A wise choice, Ian, wait a moment."

Professor Flitwick simply tapped his wand, and Ian's name appeared automatically on the parchment on the table. Then, it folded itself into a paper airplane and gracefully flew out the window.

Clearly, they informed the two elective course professors of Ian's choice, as Professor Flitwick, pressed for time with classes starting tomorrow, opted for this more convenient method of communication.

After doing all this, Professor Flitwick was visibly relaxed. He took out a small cake from his drawer to treat Ian and gave him some simple instructions on important matters for class.

About half an hour later, Ian left Professor Flitwick's office with his own special schedule.
