Seeking Snape's Help

Chapter 39 Seeking Snape's Help

On a side note, another 10 words mark is coming soon. I also started posting after accumulating 10 words. I wrote over 2 words a day and posted over 4, always in a state of not making ends meet.

But seeing a few more favorites, a few more recommendations, and one or two investments every day is a constant source of motivation for me, because I know that there are still people paying attention and watching, and I am not alone.

Honestly, this period of writing a new book has been really tough. I sincerely thank you for your support. Please recommend it, add it to your favorites, invest in it, and take any opportunity to increase its exposure.

Finally, thank you all sincerely. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

The following is the main text —————————————————

After finishing their classes for the day, the group headed straight to the auditorium, as it was almost time for dinner to be served.

Ian simply ate some food, said goodbye to his two roommates, and left.

He had more important things to do, and he was still concerned about the semi-finished formula for the bloodline purification potion.

In fact, Ian was very clear that this was not an easy task. If it were really that simple, the book would not have remained unknown for so many years; it might have been sealed away and controlled by the pure-blood families long ago.

However, his magical power is now growing slowly, and he has already learned most of the spells. Rather than doing nothing, he might as well find something to do.

Are you suggesting we let him spend all his time playing and frolicking with these teenagers?

Ian has always been clear about his purpose in coming to Hogwarts. Initially, it was to learn magic and gain the ability to survive in the apocalypse.

Now that he has completed his original plan and has learned about the wonders of magic, he has new ideas.

When poor, one should cultivate one's own virtue; when successful, one should benefit all under heaven. He wanted to do something for that world that was on the verge of death, which is why he was so eager to climb to the pinnacle of magic, because only in this way could he at least have the ability to make some changes.

……

Back in his dorm room, Ian continued reading books about bloodlines.

"...I still lack experience in potion-making. I don't understand the commonalities behind many potions. Trying to complete the formula is just wishful thinking on my part."

As Ian flipped through his notes, he pondered in his mind, realizing how naive his previous thoughts had been.

"But this is not bad either, at least I understand my shortcomings. Indeed, there are no shortcuts in any subject, so I should just learn it honestly and step by step."

After thinking everything through, Ian decisively closed the book about bloodlines.

Instead, he took out his Potions textbook and started reading it. He had made up his mind to study this subject diligently in the days to come.

He realized that attempting to alter or complete incomplete potion formulas without becoming a Potions Master was nothing short of delusional.

Night had already fallen over Hogwarts. In October, the weather in England is always unpredictable; the afternoon may have been sunny and clear, but by evening it could be stormy and rainy.

However, none of this mattered to Ian, as he was already immersed in the world of books. Under the warm light, the entire dormitory room felt very cozy.

After an unknown amount of time, this tranquility was broken when the two roommates returned to the dormitory in a very disheveled manner.

Looking at their soaking wet and muddy robes, Ian decisively drew his wand; "Clean them up."

"Merlin's Socks, that's a spell we learn in third-year classes. Ian, you can already use it skillfully?"

Faced with Andre's somewhat exaggerated question, Ian simply said, "It's alright. Perhaps I have a little talent in Charms class, which allows me to teach myself some common spells."

"I don't think so. To be honest, Ian, you could apply to Headmaster Flitwick to start taking third-year courses. At least you could apply for Charms class. It feels like with your current abilities, going back to first year would be a waste of time."

Ivy, standing to the side, offered an objective and calm analysis.

After hearing this, Ian also felt that what the other party said made sense.

With his current level of spellcasting, it wouldn't be unreasonable for him to go straight to fifth-year spellcasting classes, let alone third-year classes. It's really a bit unreasonable for him to stay in first year.

Ian nodded in agreement and said, "You're right. Perhaps I should choose a time to talk to Professor Flitwick about this."

"Ah, that's right, then we can have classes together again."

Andrei said with some excitement.

"Alright, guys, you two can sleep in tomorrow morning, but I still have a Potions class waiting for me. If there's nothing else, I'm going to take a nap. Next time you don't have to come back right before curfew."

Faced with two overly energetic roommates, Ian quickly finished speaking and got up to wash up. Ivy was sometimes okay, but Andre was indeed a bit of a chatterbox.

……

The next morning, only Ian and Snape remained in the Potions classroom. This was normal; even Slytherins wouldn't stay in the classroom for a minute longer after the bell rang.

At this moment, Snape stared blankly at Ian before him, and said in his characteristically drawn-out tone:

"The commonality behind potions? When did Ravenclaw, who claims to be clever, become so incredibly foolish? Do you think you can change the recipe just because you've concocted a few ridiculously simple potions?"

Ian was prepared for Snape's taunts. After all, in potions, understanding the fundamental properties of potions is the first and most basic step in order to complete or modify a recipe.

"Professor, I don't think it's ridiculous. I know changing potion recipes is very difficult, but at least I can see it as a goal, right? I enjoy the process of brewing potions, but I don't want to follow the book exactly; I think that would be foolish."

Ian's calm rebuttal was not an excuse or a pretext to curry favor with Snape; it was simply his truest thought.

He understood very well the principle that it is better to have no books than to believe everything in them.

"Target?"

Snape gave a cold smile.

"I remember giving you a reading list during your first class. Did our future Potions Master read all the books on that list? I don't recall you coming to see me during that time."

"Of course, Professor Snape, I have read it all and taken detailed notes."

Ian had come prepared, and as he spoke, he took out the notes he had prepared beforehand, a thick stack of parchment, and casually placed them on the table.

Snape glanced at them and, seeing that each parchment was filled with various arguments, his expression softened slightly.

"At least you're not completely stupid. Since you've read these books, you should know that improving potions is far beyond your reach. You can't learn how to make potions just by reading books."

Upon seeing Snape's change, Ian immediately said, "Of course, that's why I've come to seek your guidance."

Ian didn't flatter Vesnep with silver tongues; he knew very well that what a top potions master had in abundance was flattery and praise.

Rather than trying to be clever and ending up making things worse, it's better to be honest from the start and be a well-behaved and studious student.

Sure enough, Professor Snape nodded in agreement and calmly said, "You can come here every Wednesday and Friday evening at seven o'clock to process the herbs. Remember, potion making cannot be learned from books."

"Thank you for your guidance. I will arrive on time."

Having achieved his goal, Ian was extremely pleased.

"Then I won't bother you any longer, Professor Snape."

Seeing that Snape didn't want to talk much, he wisely left the Potions classroom.

"A good start."

As Ian pondered this, he walked toward Professor Flitwick's office.

He hadn't forgotten what his roommate had said yesterday: with his current abilities, it would indeed be a waste of time for him to take Charms classes with first-year students.
