Chapter 58
Passing By
Chapter 58 Passing By
"Do you think they'll fight?" Ivy asked with a hint of anticipation, having already stood up from his chair.
Ian guessed that the other party's expression seemed to suggest that he was eager to stir up trouble.
He said with a hint of helplessness, "It's highly unlikely. We're Ravenclaw, not Gryffindor."
Andrei chimed in, "That's right, that's right, a fight won't break out."
Although he has a lively personality, it doesn't mean he's stupid. Besides, he was a member of the college team, so he knew all about the grudges and entanglements between the various college teams.
As expected, after Benjamin Bruce and Slytherin captain Marcus Flynn negotiated, they agreed to split the court equally, each taking half.
"You're right, we are Ravenclaw." Seeing that a fight was not going to break out, Ivy slowly and wearily sat down again.
However, Ian could always detect a hint of disappointment and regret in the other person's tone.
"Sigh, another one who's good for watching the fun... It seems the instinct to enjoy a good show knows no boundaries, no region or country," Ian thought to himself.
After a while, Andrei started complaining.
"It's no fun anymore. Since Slytherin came, they've become too conservative and fly too cautiously."
Ivy then suggested, "This isn't training or a match, so there's no need for us to stand here and watch Bruce and Flynn guarding each other. Let's go back."
Ian readily agreed, instantly aligning himself with Ivy and reaching a consensus.
"Hey! Hey! You can't do this! What will I do if you leave?"
Andrei protested vehemently from the sidelines. Because while anyone else could leave, he, as a Quidditch player, was absolutely not allowed to.
They ignored the protests and left without paying any attention.
Just as Ian and Ivy left the audience, another group of Slytherin girls walked over from the other side of the lawn.
"Hey, do you see that blonde girl up ahead? The one next to Pansy Parkinson." Ivy's tone suddenly became excited as she lowered her voice, "Daphne Greengrass, she's the prettiest freshman this year..."
Ian heard a familiar name again and glanced at it instinctively.
To be honest, he was quite familiar with Daphne. Just as Ivy had said, this little girl did indeed have a beautiful face, with a head of bright golden hair, a pair of deep light blue eyes, slightly pale skin, and rosy lips.
However, the other party's rude remarks to Hermione in the Great Hall had indeed displeased him somewhat. He also felt a little regretful; how could a once well-behaved and lovely little girl have become so mean and arrogant simply because she entered Slytherin?
When Ian's eyes met hers by chance, the girl's gaze did not waver at all, showing no trace of the shyness she had shown when they first met at Madam Malkin's Robe Shop. Instead, she smiled slightly at Ian.
She was poised and elegant, graceful and beautiful. At that moment, she seemed like a little princess who had stepped out of a fairy tale, with a hint of nobility and fragility in her eyes.
The Ravenclaw boys and the Slytherin girls passed each other without saying a word.
This silence continued until Ian walked off the pitch, when it was broken by Ivy.
Perhaps having confirmed that it was safe here, Ivy said somewhat jokingly:
"Ian, Daphne smiled at you just now. Ha, I knew it! No girl at Hogwarts can resist your charm, Merlin! You've won her heart so easily? This is simply..."
Ian wasn't listening to what Ivy was saying at all; he was just mentally reviewing Daphne's behavior, because he felt that Daphne's actions had been very strange.
After carefully reviewing the footage, he discovered the problem: not only were the movements and expressions somewhat fake, but even the temperament and expressions were deliberately maintained, as if every move was made in a studio under spotlights, giving off an actor's vibe.
"No wonder she's become a bit too slick and sassy. Looks like she's found a good teacher... this level of skill..." Ian muttered to himself.
"Tea? What tea? Hey buddy, are you even listening to me?" Ivy kept babbling on.
Ian realized that there was a reason why Ivy and Andre were assigned to the same dormitory room.
When Andrei was around, Ivy maintained a certain air of aloofness, but the moment Andrei was gone, he immediately transformed into 'Andrei' to fill the void...
"I'm going to have afternoon tea now, and I don't have time to deal with those kids playing house. Besides, take my advice, you'd better stop paying attention to that Daphne; she's not as simple as you think."
Ian couldn't help but remind the other person one last time, after all, they were his roommate.
"I know what you're trying to say, Ian." Ivy seemed unfazed, as if he had switched personalities in an instant, becoming calm and wise, and continued:
"The Greengrass family was one of the first families to follow the mysterious man. Every member of their family is somewhat obsessive. Once they set their sights on something, they will get it, even if it means doing anything."
After a brief pause, Ivy put on an expression of watching the spectacle and continued:
"So, buddy, you should be more worried about yourself. I think you've pretty much become that girl's target. Right now she's still young, so she can only use these little girl tricks. But once she's an adult, you're going to be in for it..."
It was clear that Ivy had already seen through Daphne's performance, but she just didn't point it out.
Ian looked somewhat helpless upon hearing this, replying, "I really can't stand you purebloods, it's unbelievable! Are you all so... precocious?"
"Ha, what else? Why should we control the discourse in the magical world? Just because of that little bit of Galleons left by our ancestors? Don't be ridiculous."
Ivy explained half-jokingly, then suddenly became serious and said, "Ian, if you ever cross paths with other purebloods again, you must be careful, because none of the existing pureblood families are simple. And those simple ones have long since disappeared into the annals of history."
"I will, thank you, Ivy," Ian replied earnestly. He understood that Ivy was genuinely reminding him at this moment, just as he had genuinely reminded her to be careful of Daphne earlier.
As for the future, no one knows. Just as the other party said, none of the pure-blood families are simple, and Ivy is also a pure-blood, but the other party just said it so openly.
Whether it was a test or a surrender, Ian didn't bother to guess. He had no interest in playing childish games, nor in those kinds of power struggles.
Ian had no time or energy to deal with such trivial matters. He only wanted to climb to the pinnacle of magic and stand above all others. At that time, others would be the ones scheming against him, with old Malfoy and Voldemort being the most representative examples.
Fortunately, neither of them lacked emotional intelligence, and they stopped there, exchanging a smile and neither of them continued the conversation.
At the castle gate, the two parted ways. Ian chose to kill time in the library, while Ivy chose to go back to her dorm for a nap.
