Chapter 11
I want to try what dumplings taste like.
Yu Heng pushed open the door to Zhou Wanyi's bedroom. She was sitting on the edge of the bed, her clothes half-open, and she was breastfeeding her child.
He immediately closed the door and said through the door, "Sister-in-law, dinner is ready."
"Okay, I'll be right there." Zhou Wanyi's voice was a little hurried.
Yu Heng stood outside the door and grinned; this was the second time he had witnessed such a scene.
Even though we're family, I still feel a little awkward.
Moreover, now that he's been reborn, his mindset has changed a lot.
If you ask yourself honestly, he just wanted to try what dumplings tasted like.
He walked to the dining table and sat down. Liu Jianfen was carrying soup out of the kitchen: "Did you call her sister-in-law?"
"I called." Yu Heng picked up his chopsticks. "Mom, I'm going back to school the day after tomorrow."
"So soon? It's only been a few days of vacation!" Liu Jianfen frowned. "Can't you stay home a couple more days?"
"Something came up at school," Yu Heng said, picking up a piece of pork rib. "I need to go back early to prepare."
Zhou Wanyi came out of the house carrying her child, already wearing a cardigan over her clothes.
She put the child in the stroller and sat down opposite Yu Heng.
"Xiaoheng is back at school so early?" she asked softly.
"Yeah, I have something to take care of." Yu Heng buried his head in his food.
Liu Jianfen served Zhou Wanyi a bowl of soup: "Wanyi, eat more. You've lost weight recently."
"Thank you, Mom." Zhou Wanyi took the bowl.
Yu Heng noticed the faint dark circles under her eyes and couldn't help but ask, "Is your work still so busy lately, sister-in-law?"
"It's almost the end of the month, there are a lot of accounts to settle." Zhou Wanyi smiled. "I'm used to it."
"No matter how busy you are, you have to take care of your health," Liu Jianfen interjected. "Look at you, you haven't looked too good lately."
"By the way, Mom," he changed the subject, "I want to visit Dad before I go back to school."
Liu Jianfen paused for a moment: "Okay, I'll go with you tomorrow."
"No need, I can go by myself." Yu Heng picked at the rice in his bowl. "I just want to talk to Dad."
Liu Jianfen thought for a moment and said, "That's fine then. You can go by yourself. Your sister-in-law will be going to work tomorrow and will have to stay home and look after Xiaohui."
......
......
The next day, Yu Heng rode his electric bike back to his hometown.
It's not far, only twenty minutes away.
Yu Heng took a shovel from his hometown and added some soil to the grave.
Then he sat down.
"Old Yu, your son has come to see you."
"You're living a life of luxury; your two sons passed away after only a few days of raising them."
"My mom had it so tough. She got up earlier than the chickens and went to bed later than the dogs to support both my brother and me through college."
"My brother is just like you; he left in a hurry before his son was even born."
"Your eldest grandson is quite strong and will be very smart when he grows up. You can rest assured that the Yu family will have an heir."
"Well, I'm doing pretty well too. After graduation, I worked as a live-streaming operator at a media company. I made 30,000 to 50,000 a month when it was good, and 10,000 to 20,000 when it was bad. I married a wife who is also very beautiful. It's a pity that there are only widows in our family. I didn't learn how to live as a couple from anyone. Your wife was also a woman with a strong personality. We couldn't make it work and got divorced. But guess what? I was reborn. Haha, isn't that absurd?"
Yu Heng sat on the grave for a while longer, until his legs started to go numb, before he stood up.
He patted the dirt off his backside, hoisted the shovel onto his shoulder, and rode his electric bike back to his hometown.
It was almost dark when I got upstairs. Liu Jianfen was sitting in the living room watching TV. She didn't even turn around when she heard the door open: "You're back? Have you cleared the weeds from the grave?"
"What weeding? I just added some soil." Yu Heng plopped down on the sofa. "What's for dinner?"
"Just heat up the leftovers, your sister-in-law's still working overtime." Liu Jianfen picked up the remote and changed the channel. "Are you really leaving tomorrow?"
"Yes, the train ticket is for the afternoon." Yu Heng took out his phone and glanced at it. "The train departs at 4:50."
Yu Heng returned to school the next afternoon, threw his luggage into the dormitory, and his stomach was growling with hunger.
He strolled to the cafeteria, got a serving of potato and chicken nuggets and rice, and casually found an empty seat to sit down and start eating.
After finishing my meal and returning to my dorm, I opened the door and saw Liu Tianqi wearing headphones and playing games.
"Oh, you're back?" Liu Tianqi stared at the screen without turning his head.
"You've been playing League of Legends in your dorm for a few days?" Yu Heng asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Otherwise what?" Liu Tianqi finally managed to glance at him. "The round-trip train ticket home would be enough for me to buy so many skins."
"Go pick up girls!" Yu Heng kicked his chair leg. "You spent the entire seven-day National Day holiday with the computer?"
"Not interested." Liu Tianqi scoffed. "Girls aren't as appealing as games."
Yu Heng shook his head; this guy was hopeless.
He glanced at the time; it was almost seven o'clock.
He climbed into bed, took out his phone, and opened WeChat to find Bai Xinran.
Yu Heng: I'm back at school. When are you coming back?
Bai Xinran: I didn't go home, I've been at school the whole time.
Yu Heng: Shall we meet tomorrow to talk? On the first floor of the second canteen?
Bai Xinran: Okay, how about 2 PM? I want to sleep in this morning! o(╯□╰)o
Yu Heng smiled, exited WeChat, and casually opened Bilibili to enter her live stream room.
On the screen, the guy in the leather suit is playing a game, talking in a neutral voice.
---
At 1:50 pm the next day, Yu Heng arrived at the second canteen ahead of schedule.
He bought two cups of milk tea, and just as he sat down, he saw Bai Xinran come in from the door.
Yu Heng handed her a cup, and Bai Xinran took it and said thank you.
"You should say thank you, boss," Yu Heng said.
"Oh? Thank you, boss!"
"No, that's not the right tone. It should be 'Thank you, boss!'" Yu Heng imitated her tone during the live stream.
"Ah!" Bai Xinran felt a sense of shame, as if she were being publicly executed. "That was online! I can't say it now!"
"Haha, okay, okay, let's get down to business." Yu Heng leaned forward slightly: "How many hours do you broadcast each day now?"
"It only airs for an hour or two at night now," Bai Xinran shrugged. "It's not very convenient in the dorm; I'm afraid of disturbing my roommates. Besides..."
She lowered her voice: "If they see my suit, I'll be so embarrassed."
"So what can you do with this little bit of live streaming time?" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow. "Making fans is like growing flowers; you have to water them every day."
"So you're talking about cooperation?" Bai Xinran leaned back. "What brilliant ideas do you have?"
Yu Heng thought for a moment and said, "I'll rent you a place near the school specifically for live streaming, is that okay?"
Bai Xinran was taken aback: "Rent a house? That's outrageous!"
"What's so exaggerated about that?" Yu Heng scoffed. "If you want to do this job properly, how can you do it without a fixed location? Are you really going to broadcast from your dorm until graduation?"
"But..." Bai Xinran hesitated for a moment, "How much does it cost to rent a place?"
"You don't need to worry about that," Yu Heng waved his hand. "I'll cover the initial investment. We'll deduct it from your profit share once you start making money."
Bai Xinran stared at him for a few seconds: "What if I can't make money?"
"Investing always carries risks," Yu Heng said, taking a sip of his milk tea. "But I'm pretty good at judging people, as long as you don't work hard only for a few days and then slack off for a while."
Bai Xinran lowered her head and pondered for a moment: "How is the revenue sharing calculated?"
"You pay 70%, I pay 30%," Yu Heng said decisively. "I'll cover all the costs, including rent, equipment, and operating expenses."
This profit-sharing ratio and compensation are considered fairly standard within the industry.
After all, live streaming companies can't make big money by treating a streamer like a slave; they can only make money by having more streamers.
Costs must be amortized before they can be calculated.
You can't just put all the rental costs of the villa on Bai Xinran's shoulders; that kind of calculation would make even capitalists weep.
Bai Xinran was clearly tempted, but was still hesitant.
Yu Heng raised an eyebrow: "How about this, let's try it for a month first. If it doesn't work out, we can part ways amicably, you won't lose out, right?"
Bai Xinran bit her lip: "Okay! Let's try it for a month."
