Chapter 33
A Pure Money Relationship!
Yu Heng pushed open the villa door and tossed the keys onto the entryway cabinet.
He glanced at his phone; it was already past eight o'clock.
After a whole day of running around, looking for the counselor and going into the girls' dormitory, I was covered in sweat and felt really uncomfortable.
He went straight into the bathroom, took a shower, grabbed a towel and dried himself off haphazardly. He didn't even bother to put on his underwear and just walked out naked.
Bai Xinran said this afternoon that she would be accompanying her roommate to receive an IV drip tonight and wouldn't be coming.
He's the only one in the family, so he can be a little more unrestrained!
He pulled a bottle of ice-cold Coke from the refrigerator, unzipped it, tilted his head back, and took a big gulp, feeling a jolt of relief.
He set the living room air conditioner to 30 degrees Celsius, lay down on the sofa, and found a popular Korean drama.
Bai Xinran isn't broadcasting, and he's even too lazy to open a Bilibili channel.
During the pause between episodes ending and the end credits playing.
Yu Heng then heard a scream:
"Ah—! Boss! What are you doing?!"
He looked up abruptly and saw Bai Xinran standing frozen at the door of the guest room, her eyes tightly covered.
Yu Heng cursed inwardly and hurriedly grabbed the bath towel he had left on the sofa that morning and wrapped it around his waist.
"Didn't you say you weren't coming?" he asked irritably as he finished tying his towel.
Bai Xinran, still covering her eyes, said, "I was supposed to accompany my roommate while she received her IV! But her boyfriend went later, so I... I came back..."
Seeing her like this, Yu Heng's embarrassment dissipated, and he felt a urge to tease her.
He walked up to her and deliberately dragged out his words: "Alright, put your hands down. You've seen everything you needed to see."
"Who saw that!" Bai Xinran abruptly lowered her hand, her eyes darting around, not daring to look below his waist. "It was just a conditioned reflex! Who knew you were so unrestrained at home!"
"Can't I be more comfortable in my own home?" Yu Heng scoffed, walked back to the sofa and sat down casually, the bath towel loosening a bit more with the movement.
He picked up his Coke and took a swig: "Is your roommate alright?"
"Not bad? It seems like some kind of flu? I had a bit of a fever, but I feel much better after the IV drip." Bai Xinran said, quickly turning her face away and pretending to be interested in the air conditioner. "The air conditioner is so high, aren't you hot?"
"A calm mind brings coolness," Yu Heng said lazily, crossing his legs. "But you, your face is so red, are you hot?"
"You scared me!" Bai Xinran sat down on the sofa, hugging a cushion to shield herself. "Boss, this is workplace sexual harassment plus! The emotional damage is doubled!"
Yu Heng tilted his head to look at her, a mocking glint in his eyes: "Which labor law says that a boss going shirtless at home constitutes harassment?"
She strode to the refrigerator, grabbed a bottle of water, and deliberately turned her back to him: "Can you please be more mindful of your behavior at home in the future? Walking your bird in the living room, have you no shame?!"
"Alright, alright, let's not talk about this anymore," Yu Heng waved his hand, the bath towel sliding down with the movement. He casually pulled it up a little, "Are you done with your live stream?"
Bai Xinran finally breathed a sigh of relief: "It's over! I posted that self-introduction video today, and my followers skyrocketed, already exceeding 10,000! Also, today's revenue exceeded 20,000!"
Her voice was filled with barely suppressed excitement, and the awkwardness from before had been greatly reduced.
"Great!" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow; the growth rate was even faster than he had expected. "At this rate, you'll get a substantial share at the end of the month. So, have you decided how you're going to spend it?"
"I haven't decided yet," Bai Xinran said, swinging her legs and finally daring to look him in the eye. "I'll save this for now! But boss, do you think I'm considered popular now?"
"Fire? Not even close!" Yu Heng scoffed. "There are tons of streamers with millions of followers on Bilibili. You're barely scratching the surface. You're just a tiny spark at best."
He watched her face fall instantly, then changed the subject: "Well... the beginning was indeed good. Keep it up, don't get carried away, focus on developing the content of your live stream, and don't just spend all your time arguing with the chat with nonsense."
"No way!" Bai Xinran immediately retorted, "It's because the audience likes to watch it."
"Even if the audience likes to watch, there have to be limits," Yu Heng picked up his cola and took another swig, his Adam's apple bobbing. "Don't go too far one day and the live stream will be gone. You won't even have time to cry then."
Although he tacitly approved and guided the development of water heaters, he couldn't truly let himself go.
If you let yourself go, then it's no longer a water heater; it becomes a pure royal water heater.
"Okay..." Bai Xinran pouted, then remembered something, "Oh right, boss, several people from other guilds messaged me today, trying to poach me!"
Yu Heng paused, looking at her: "Oh? What conditions did you offer?"
"They said the revenue share would be higher, and they promised more resources for promotion and stuff," Bai Xinran tilted her head. "But I rejected them all!"
"Why?" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow, somewhat surprised by her straightforwardness.
"It doesn't seem reliable," Bai Xinran shrugged. "Besides, I already signed a cooperation agreement with you. Although it's not exactly a formal employment contract, you can't just run away like that. Wouldn't that make you an ingrate? And besides..."
She paused, glanced at Yu Heng, and lowered her voice: "I think that although you, boss, are not a very serious person and sometimes like to scare people, you are quite reliable when it comes to getting things done."
Yu Heng was amused by her assessment: "So, I'm just a reasonably reliable rating?"
"Otherwise what?" Bai Xinran raised her chin confidently. "Do you expect me to give you a Best Boss award?"
"No need for certificates," Yu Heng grinned, then suddenly leaned closer. "How about something more practical?"
Startled, Bai Xinran shrank back, grabbing a cushion to shield herself: "Damn it! Boss, please have some self-respect! This is purely a financial relationship!"
"Okay, okay, it's all about money, it's all about money." Yu Heng knew when to stop.
"Um... Boss," Bai Xinran hesitated for a moment before speaking, "I'd like to ask for a day off tomorrow, so we might not be able to broadcast tomorrow."
Where are you going?
"My parents suddenly said they're coming to visit me," Bai Xinran scratched her head. "They'll arrive tomorrow at noon, so I have to pick them up and show them around the school in the afternoon."
"So, Mr. and Mrs. Jing are here?" Yu Heng teased. "Okay, approved. But... don't tell your parents too much about the live stream, especially not about me."
"Why?" Bai Xinran asked, puzzled.
"Nonsense," Yu Heng rolled her eyes at her, "If your parents knew you were with a guy, renting a place and doing some kind of virtual streamer thing, and your streams were so outrageous, do you think they wouldn't come and rip this villa down?"
Bai Xinran imagined the scene for a moment, then burst out laughing: "That makes sense! I told you I was working part-time, helping the school teachers with a new media project!"
"Hmm, that's a good excuse." Yu Heng nodded.
These days, explaining emerging industries to your parents is really difficult.
In their eyes, only serving dishes and handing out flyers can be considered legitimate part-time jobs.
"I'm going back to my room to sleep now!" Bai Xinran stood up. "Boss, remember to put your clothes on!"
"Aren't you going back?" Yu Heng raised an eyebrow.
"It's Friday today! I'm not going back. Those nice girls in the dorm get up really early even on weekends, I can't sleep in!"
