Chapter 14
Officially Live Streamed
Yu Heng smiled and didn't say anything more.
He discovered that Bai Xinran never blushed or got angry at such remarks.
Upon arriving at the station and exiting the main gate, Yu Heng hailed a taxi on the roadside: "Driver, to the Science and Technology Building."
Bai Xinran kept looking at her phone in the car: "I checked a few configuration lists, take a look."
Yu Heng glanced at it: "No need for that trouble, just find a store to deliver it."
Upon arriving at the computer mall, the two found a shop on the third floor.
"Boss, get me a PC for live streaming, so I can play single-player games without lag," Bai Xinran said to the salesperson.
The sales clerk, a young man wearing glasses, asked: "What's your budget?"
"Around ten thousand," Yu Heng replied.
The salesperson's eyes lit up: "This price range offers a very good configuration. What graphics card model do you want? The 1060 is quite popular right now."
Bai Xinran leaned close to Yu Heng's ear and whispered, "I think we could go for a 1070ti; the live stream would be smoother."
Her warm breath brushed against his ear, and Yu Heng glanced at her sideways: "Okay, then the 1070ti will do."
After assembling the computer, I also picked out a monitor, keyboard, and mouse, and the final bill came to 9,800.
"Boss, that's great!" the clerk grinned from ear to ear. "Do you need me to take it downstairs?"
"No need, we'll move it ourselves."
Yu Heng picked up the computer case, and Bai Xinran carried the monitor. This time, the two took a taxi back to the villa.
Save money where you can and spend it where you can. If it weren't for the fact that it's hard to get a taxi in the university town, I wouldn't have taken the bus here.
Back home, the two moved the equipment into Bai Xinran's room, where she eagerly began assembling it.
Yu Heng leaned against the door frame watching her busy herself: "You're quite skilled."
"Of course, I built my own PC back in high school." Bai Xinran continued connecting the cables without looking up. "So this room will be our live-streaming studio from now on?"
"Yes, there's a bed in this room too. You can rest when you're tired, and you can sleep here on weekends too," Yu Heng said with a smile.
Bai Xinran assembled the computer, turned it on, and tried it out: "Great! Now I finally don't have to put up with the buzzing of the laptop anymore."
"Will you broadcast it here tonight?" Yu Heng asked.
"Absolutely!" Bai Xinran stood up. "I need to go back and get some things. I'll be back for the live stream at six o'clock tonight."
Bai Xinran waved her hand, turned around and went out the door.
He lay back on the sofa, took out his phone and browsed Bilibili for a while. The homepage was full of game videos and parodies.
Virtual streamer?
There aren't many right now.
Moreover, most of them are just copied Japanese videos.
Virtual streamers are still a rarity right now, especially those from China.
Even if there are any, they are mostly 3D. Only a wealthy woman like Bai Xinran with spare money would make a Live2D suit for herself out of hobby.
When Bai Xinran pushed open the door that evening carrying a backpack, Yu Heng was sprawled on the sofa scrolling through his phone.
"You're here?" Yu Heng looked up at her.
"Okay, I've got everything." Bai Xinran put the bag on the ground, took out a sound card and microphone from the bag, and said, "I'll set up the equipment first."
Yu Heng got up and followed him, leaning against the doorframe: "Need any help?"
"No need, it'll be ready soon." Bai Xinran used her iPhone as a camera. "If you want to say anything, just send me a WeChat message, and I can see it on my computer."
Before the live stream started, Yu Heng asked her to take some time to sign the contract.
The content is quite simple; it's just a revenue-sharing agreement and not a brokerage contract.
After all, he doesn't have a company yet; he'll sign a formal contract after registering a business license.
The live stream started promptly at 6:00 PM.
Bai Xinran put on the headphones, and the gas-burning leather hood appeared on the screen.
She cleared her throat, her voice softer than usual as she spoke: "Good evening, everyone."
Yu Heng moved a chair over and sat down next to her, then entered the live stream room using his phone.
The comments started to appear sporadically.
Holy crap! That suit is awesome!
[Is it official V? Really?]
"Today we're playing a horror game! It's called 'Face,' and it just came out a couple of days ago. This is the first time I've played it too, so don't be scared!"
Holy crap! This suit is so revealing, would it even pass censorship on Bilibili?
[I knew watching videos on Bilibili would be a thing of the past!]
The streamer's voice and the suit don't match.
Bai Xinran paused for a moment when she saw the comment saying the voice didn't match, then laughed and said, "The suit is a suit, and I am me~ Don't you all like it?"
The viewers in the live stream were clearly drawn in by this novelty.
The scrolling speed of the bullet comments increased.
[This is the first time I've seen a Chinese video account with this style!]
What games does the streamer play?
[My chest and waist are perfect now!]
[Not enough anime/manga vibes, it doesn't feel right.]
Bai Xinran was clearly much more relaxed: "Let's play something exciting today, a horror game~ Don't blame me if you get scared!"
He silenced the trolls while leading the way in sending virtual gifts.
"Thanks for the gift from 'September New Anime'!" Bai Xinran said with a smile. "Is the boss being so generous today?"
Yu Heng commented in the live chat: "Support domestic V! It's the right thing to do."
After more than two hours of live streaming, there were already a hundred people in the live stream room.
Most of the comments were expressions of curiosity and praise.
[A shining example of Chinese video content!]
[The suit is really nice, did you design it yourself?]
[The host will broadcast more content; I love watching!]
Of course, there will always be those who are blind to reason.
[What kind of virtual streamer is this? More like someone selling sex appeal.]
[It doesn't feel like anime at all, I've unfollowed it.]
Yu Heng sealed off each and every one of them without hesitation.
These people don't know anything. From now on, this kind of water heater will be the basis for Bilibili's virtual revenue stream.
Who would watch your little Bilibili live stream if it wasn't for borderline content?
However, Bai Xinran had already started live streaming, so why hadn't he heard of it in his previous life?
This person is considered a veteran of Chinese live streaming. Did they stop streaming because it was just a hobby, or were they discouraged by trolls?
After all, virtual YouTubers and anime/manga culture are still strongly associated at this time, and water heaters are not yet popular.
But now that Yu Heng has been reborn, he must bring this trend forward and benefit the leps!
"Thank you to 'Ah Ling is My Wife' for the little TV!" Bai Xinran said, her voice brightening as she read out the gift. "Thank you everyone! It'll be on until 10 PM today!"
Yu Heng checked the time; it was only a little past eight.
He got up, poured a glass of water, and placed it next to Bai Xinran.
"Thank you, boss," Bai Xinran said silently, then continued interacting with the microphone, "That scene just now scared me to death, did you guys see it?"
Yu Heng sat back down next to him and continued watching the live chat.
The atmosphere in the live stream became increasingly heated, with some people even starting to spam "The Rise of Chinese V".
He smiled to himself, thinking that this was nothing.
Yu Heng quickly typed a comment: "Did you design the streamer's costume yourself?"
"Yes," Bai Xinran said with a smile when she saw the message, "It cost me a lot of my allowance."
Bai Xinran screamed in fright when the monster jumped out.
The live chat immediately became lively.
[Haha, so scared!]
[The streamer's voice is so nice]
Yu Heng immediately sent a message in the chat: "Protect our streamer!"
He casually added a few IDs that had sent him gifts to the moderator list.
Halfway through the live stream, there were already several hundred viewers online.
The scrolling speed of the bullet comments is significantly faster.
[This suit is quite revealing.]
Is this how Chinese video creators are doing things now?
Another comment popped up: "[Virtual streamers are spending so much money, don't they have any shame?]"
With a flick of his finger, he sent another one away.
Fans also need to be screened; this is called purification!
Bai Xinran had obviously seen these comments as well, and paused for a moment before speaking.
Yu Heng immediately sent a comment: "As long as the streamer is having fun, that's fine. If you don't like watching, turn left and leave."
She quickly composed herself, her voice regaining its cheerful tone: "Let's continue~ Where were we?"
The live stream lasted for more than three hours, and the number of viewers remained stable at around one thousand when it ended.
Bai Xinran turned off the live streaming software and let out a long sigh of relief.
"I'm exhausted..." She took off her headphones and rubbed her neck.
"It worked well." Yu Heng put his phone back in his pocket. "You got quite a few gifts today, didn't you?"
"Not bad!" Bai Xinran's eyes lit up when she opened the backend data. "Wow! There's almost ten thousand yuan!"
"Let's broadcast here from now on." Yu Heng stood up. "You're clearly more relaxed here."
Bai Xinran tilted her head to look at him: "Boss, you're pretty dedicated to creating a lively atmosphere today, aren't you?"
"Absolutely." Yu Heng grinned. "I need to make sure the investment pays off."
He walked to the door, then turned back: "At this time again tomorrow?"
"Okay! I'll come right after class," Bai Xinran nodded emphatically, then glanced at her phone, "Wow! I've gained over two thousand followers!"
