Chapter 23

Sonoko Suzuki's Beach Battle

"What is it?"

Jonah placed the last plate in the colander, wiped his hands with a tissue, and looked at Professor Agasa with curiosity.

"How about I help you research some tools that you can use to protect others without actually taking their lives?"

Feeling that his idea was simply genius, Professor Agasa looked at Jonah excitedly, gesturing wildly with his hands in front of him.

"The gadget I'm giving you is easy to carry around and discreet enough that even if other people see it, they won't suspect anything. You can use it with peace of mind. That way, even if Shinichi and Ran find out, they won't say anything."

"May I?"

Jonah paused for a moment. He had already thought that getting the gun from Cohen was enough, but after hearing what Professor Agasa said, Jonah suddenly felt that his idea was very good!

The firearms obtained from Cohen cannot be used openly under normal circumstances; they can only be used in truly critical moments when one is fighting for their life.

But given how often Kogoro Mouri and Conan Edogawa encounter danger when accepting commissions, Jonah can't possibly carry a pistol on his person every day.

At this time, having a set of weapons and equipment for "daily use" would indeed be a very happy thing.

"I think it's very promising, Doctor. What kind of designs are you capable of creating?"

Jonah also got excited. In Jonah's eyes, Professor Agasa was even more amazing than Conan Edogawa and Ai Haibara, because among the people Jonah knew, only Professor Agasa could make so many strange and wonderful things.

"This requires us to discuss it carefully."

Seeing that Ai Haibara didn't seem to be coming up anytime soon, Professor Agasa quickly pulled Jonah to his research lab and began to introduce his current inventions.

After Professor Agasa's introduction and Jonah's own ideas from actual combat, the two finally decided to develop a few simple and easy-to-use gadgets first.

They've already put them on their feet. The athletic shoes that can enhance leg strength through electric current are one example. Then there's the one that Conan Edogawa owns, but Jonah has modified it into a retractable belt. It's controlled by a button and can extend the search distance by up to 100 meters, with a maximum load capacity of 200 kilograms.

Professor Agasa also plans to prepare a multi-functional watch for Jonah. Unlike Conan Edogawa's watch, which can fire tranquilizer darts, Jonah's watch, while also capable of firing tranquilizer darts, focuses more on the multi-functional display of the dial.

The watch can pop out a Bluetooth earpiece from the side, and also has three transmitters that can be used for eavesdropping and tracking. The dial can also display tracking signals and even receive text messages received on a mobile phone.

Of course, what Jonah was most concerned about was the gadget that would appear as a weapon. After a long discussion between Jonah and Professor Agasa, with the principles of safety and efficiency in mind, Professor Agasa finally came up with a useful gadget.

Inspired by the FAMAS F1 AEG electric replica gun developed by Tokyo Marui Corporation, Dr. Agasa also developed an electric pistol for Jonah that could fire bullets. The exterior was made according to Jonah's Browning MK3, while the interior was completely hand-crafted by Dr. Agasa.

The rechargeable battery is also removable and replaceable with a spare battery. A single battery can fire the electric pistol 200 times. This is a compromise made to prevent the electric pistol from being too cumbersome and heavy, which would affect Jonah's shooting feel.

The bullet speed can reach 60 meters per second, which is already the biggest concession Dr. Agasa has made. No matter how much Jonah asks, he refuses to increase the output power any further.

Making the electric pistol wasn't difficult for Professor Agasa; the challenge lay in making the bullets. To provide protection without actually harming anyone, tranquilizer bullets were the best option. Jonah didn't like bullets in the form of tranquilizer darts. After much thought, Professor Agasa finally found a solution.

The invention involves encapsulating a highly effective anesthetic in a projectile. Upon impact, the projectile shatters, releasing the anesthetic and causing the enemy to collapse from the shock.

Of course, this would require Jonah to have a high level of shooting skill, but Jonah agreed.

When using a pistol, Jonah is usually in a charging stance, and the distance between him and the enemy will not exceed 5 meters. At this distance, hitting the opponent's face is not too difficult.

Furthermore, Dr. Agasa went to great lengths to compress the bullets, allowing Jonah to carry only a bottle the size of a soda can to hold 300 bullets that work with batteries.

Jonah didn't know exactly how Professor Agasa made it, but his admiration for Professor Agasa had reached its peak.

Ai Haibara and Conan Edogawa, who were well aware of all this, would inwardly grumble every time they saw Professor Agasa laughing heartily in Jonah's adoring gaze, wondering if the old man was only going to such lengths to get praise from the kids.

......

"Jonah, don't you think this is going too far!"

Suzuki Sonoko squatted down and hugged Jonah, who was eating seafood fried noodles. She then pretended to cry, looking very aggrieved, leaving Ran Mouri and Conan Edogawa standing opposite her looking helpless.

"It's okay, Sonoko-neechan. You're a very good person, and you'll definitely find a good boyfriend."

Although he didn't quite understand what Sonoko Suzuki meant by the "Non-Heiress" operation, nor why she would suddenly threaten Ran Mouri with photos, Jonah remained a loyal supporter of Sonoko Suzuki, since she had been buying him food ever since they arrived at the beach.

"...Forget it, you're not a precocious kid like Conan, there's no point in asking you this kind of thing."

Knowing that Jonah's attention was focused on the food, Sonoko Suzuki sighed helplessly, stood up, and began to complain to Ran Mouri about her lack of charm.

Jonah, eating large mouthfuls of fried noodles, stood on the beach and looked at Conan Edogawa, who was wearing a swimming ring. This made Conan's gaze, which had been admiring Ran Mouri's swimsuit, slightly lessen.

It was one thing to not know before, but now that Conan Edogawa is Shinichi Kudo, after learning about the differences between boys and girls from Professor Agasa and Ai Haibara, Jonah seriously began to monitor Conan Edogawa, not allowing him to take advantage of Ran Mouri just because he looks like a child.

Conan Edogawa was already feeling guilty about this, and although he was disappointed, he had nothing to say.

"Conan, is it that Sonoko-neechan still can't find a boyfriend?"

"Pretty much. Is it bad luck or just bad timing? I think it's her own problem. She likes to go up to any good-looking guy without considering whether he's really interested in her. Luckily, she's well-educated and has met quite a few jerks, but she's never been taken advantage of."

Pushing up his glasses, Conan Edogawa shook his head helplessly as he looked at the man who had suddenly come over to chat him up again.

"See? This man just showed up, and Sonoko's already excited again. If she knew he was after Ran, she'd be..."

"No, actually the person I wanted to invite was you."

"What!" Conan Edogawa stared in shock at the man who walked up to Sonoko Suzuki and extended an invitation. His face darkened, and he muttered something under his breath.

"Impossible! No one could possibly be interested in the garden! There must be something wrong with this; there must be something wrong beneath this facade!"

"...Conan, sometimes you can be quite hurtful with your words."
