Chapter 39
The Abnormality of Ai Haibara
Seeing that Jonah didn't refute her at all and simply apologized, Ai Haibara opened her mouth, but couldn't say a word.
A surge of anger rose within him, but this time it wasn't directed at Jonah, but at himself.
Ai Haibara regrets why she took her anger out on Jonah, a child, and why she vented her recent bad mood and fear in this way.
I really am a terrible adult.
Without a word, Ai Haibara got up and walked to the kitchen area. She took out two pieces of cake and a bottle of juice, placed them in front of Jonah, and then raised her hand to touch Jonah's hair.
"I'm the one who should apologize. You didn't do anything wrong. I shouldn't have treated you like that."
"I'm sorry, Jonah. I hope you're not angry with me. I went too far just now."
"I'm not angry."
"Yes, good boy."
With a smile on her face, Ai Haibara nodded to Jonah and turned to walk towards the basement.
Jonah, are you alright?
"I'm fine. Haibara is right. I should have been more careful when using a gun."
Jonah wasn't really upset. To him, Ai Haibara's words didn't even count as anger or scolding. The reason he was frozen in place earlier was simply because Jonah was thinking about what he had done wrong to make Ai Haibara angry.
"Doctor, what's wrong with Haibara? She seems to be getting more and more irritable lately."
Seeing that Jonah wasn't upset by Ai Haibara's words, Conan Edogawa felt a little relieved, but he quickly ran to Professor Agasa's side and asked the question that had been bothering him.
"Well, I don't know either, but Ai has been acting a bit strange lately. She doesn't seem to have much energy when she wakes up in the morning, like she hasn't slept well. She's also a bit absent-minded most of the time, and I don't know what she's thinking about."
"Yeah, I feel the same way. Haibara used to be lazy when she was in school, but she would at least pay some attention to Ayumi and the others. But lately, she's been so perfunctory with her attention that I have no idea what she's thinking."
Scratching his head, Conan Edogawa really couldn't understand what Ai Haibara was doing. He wasn't good at talking to her, so he could only let her stay there alone.
With Ai Haibara's situation proving difficult to handle, Conan Edogawa had no choice but to focus his attention on the Phantom Thief Kid's advance notice.
Because their opponent is Kaito Kid, Jonah, who has a goal in mind, is very proactive. They arrive at the Suzuki Art Museum in Osaka Castle in a car specially picked up by Sonoko Suzuki.
At the entrance of the art museum, Jonah also saw Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama. Jonah was not sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt that the two of them looked at him with a strange gaze.
However, considering that Heiji Hattori knew Conan Edogawa's true identity and could be considered an ally, Jonah was not too wary of him.
In the president's office of the art museum, Jonah met Suzuki Shiro, whom he had met before. Suzuki Shiro was very enthusiastic when he saw Jonah and invited Jonah to sit down next to him, which surprised Ran Mouri and Kogoro Mouri, who looked at Sonoko Suzuki.
"Haha, last time I asked Jonah for help, and afterwards Dad felt that he and Jonah got along very well, so they became good friends~"
Because there were other people present, Sonoko Suzuki simply gave a brief explanation and then skipped over the topic.
Jonah couldn't possibly decipher the code used by Phantom Thief Kid, but he placed his hopes on Conan Edogawa. According to Jonah's knowledge, Phantom Thief Kid had suffered at the hands of Conan Edogawa, so he had confidence in Conan.
Then, Jonah was abandoned at the art museum by Hattori Heiji and Edogawa Conan, who rode away on their motorcycles.
Jonah was helpless. Conan was in a hurry and simply rode off on his skateboard, while Heiji Hattori also disappeared without a trace on his motorcycle in the blink of an eye. Only Jonah himself had no means of transportation, and it was obviously impossible for him to catch up with them by running.
After considering his current situation, Jonah decided to give up thinking and followed Suzuki Shiro's secretary, who had stayed at the art museum, into the art museum's rest area. He then began to look for food that interested him and put it on a plate to eat.
Then Jonah heard that Heiji Hattori had been hospitalized after colliding with a car during a massive power outage in the city while chasing Kaito Kid.
Also, the phantom thief Kid that I wanted to shoot was shot first and is now missing, his fate unknown.
"So, another assassin named Scrooge has also set his sights on this resurrected egg?"
After listening to Conan Edogawa's analysis, Jonah secretly rejoiced that he had secretly brought the hidden pistol with him in order to avenge himself against Kaito Kid.
So now the problem is, how can I keep the pistol on my person without Conan Edogawa and the others noticing?
After much thought, Jonah came up with a good idea. If they acted together, Jonah wasn't confident he could hide his keen observation skills from Conan Edogawa. So, wouldn't it be better if he didn't act with Conan Edogawa?
"Jonah, you mean you want to go alone and follow them to the castle to investigate?"
So Jonah found Shiro Suzuki and told him what was on his mind. Although Shiro Suzuki was a little surprised, he eventually agreed to Jonah's request and arranged for Jonah to be a driver from his own bodyguard team.
Meanwhile, at the castle, Jonah casually came up with a plausible excuse, leading Conan Edogawa to believe that Jonah was genuinely uninterested in this kind of adventure and had therefore abandoned the idea of everyone joining in... Yeah, right!
Staring at Jonah with dead fish eyes, Conan Edogawa didn't believe Jonah's words at all. How could Jonah know that an assassin was threatening them and remain indifferent?
Jonah is definitely planning to cause a big stir in secret, but Conan Edogawa doesn't have a good reason to persuade him. Conan Edogawa knows that Jonah will agree to anything Jonah says until Jonah actually does it, but whether he actually does it is another matter.
There's no other way; Conan Edogawa can only ensure that Jonah remembers his promise to them and won't actually do anything too outrageous.
......
"Young Master Jonah, this is what the master asked me to prepare for you. I hope it will be of help."
Jonah's eyes widened slightly as he watched the bodyguard pull a pistol from his pocket, but he quickly took it from the bodyguard, checked its condition, and nodded in satisfaction.
"Is it for me?"
"No, it needs to be returned after the operation is over. After all, it's not convenient for you, Young Master Jonah, to handle this kind of trouble."
"I see."
