Chapter 30
The Sudden Change in Weather
The sudden news startled Toyama Kazuha. The group rushed to the scene just as the ambulance was about to leave, and accompanied Hattori Heiji to the hospital.
Fortunately, the area where Hattori Heiji was shot was not dangerous, and apart from the pain, he was not seriously injured. Amidst the helpless looks of everyone, he started arguing with Toyama Kazuha.
However, since it was a gunshot wound, Hattori Heiji was hospitalized for a day for observation before returning to his home with Kogoro Mouri and his party the next day.
When Hattori Heiji's friends from Tokyo arrived, Hattori Heiji's mother, Hattori Shizuka, showed unusual enthusiasm. Hattori Heizo, who had just returned home from get off work, was not as serious as he was at the Osaka Police Headquarters. He took out a bottle of sake and drank with Mori Kogoro.
The meal was a pleasant one for both host and guests. Afterwards, Ran Mouri took the tipsy Kogoro Mouri back to his room to rest, with Conan Edogawa and Jonah following behind.
Only Hattori Heiji, his family of three, and Toyama Kazuha, who had come along because she was still worried about Mouri Ran, remained in the restaurant.
"Speaking of Heiji, what's the deal with Jonah's little brother?"
Kazuha Toyama was very familiar with Heiji Hattori's house, so she wasn't uncomfortable at all. After chatting like family for a while, Kazuha suddenly remembered something and turned to look at Heiji Hattori, who was sitting there casually.
"What happened?"
Looking at Kazuha Toyama with a puzzled expression, Heiji Hattori had last seen Jonah during the Diplomat Case. Jonah was too shocked by Conan Edogawa turning into Shinichi Kudo that day and didn't show any special behavior, so Heiji Hattori was unaware of Jonah's abnormality.
"Isn't Jonah quite cute? I think you like that kid too, Kazuha."
"Jonah is cute, but he's also weird."
Waving his hands, he recounted what he had discovered in the forest cabin that day. Toyama Kazuha frowned, his tone filled with deep confusion.
"At a distance of about 20 meters, every bullet hit the serial killer. The speed of his shooting was extremely fast, without the slightest hesitation, and his shooting posture was also very standard. Most importantly, the feeling Jonah gave me at the time was completely like that of a..."
After a pause, Toyama Kazuha looked at Hattori Heizo beside her, somewhat embarrassed but still said, "I can't say for sure, but it feels even more skillful and professional than when Uncle Hattori and Dad handle a gun."
"Is there really such a thing?"
The things that Toyama Kazuha mentioned did not appear in Otaki Goro's report. Hattori Heizo was also intrigued that such a thing had happened back then.
"This explains the strange anesthetic composition in the doctor's report on the examination of Kiichiro Numabuchi. It seems that it was caused by that little Jonah using a tranquilizer gun."
"Oh? I didn't expect Kudo to have kept such interesting news from me. I must ask him about it!"
"What? Kudo didn't even come over, how are you going to ask?"
"Idiot, can't I make a phone call?"
"You're the idiot! Your friend is Kudo, but he didn't come, and you're entertaining his childhood friend instead! You idiot, Heiji!"
They started arguing again at the slightest disagreement. Looking at this pair of bickering lovers who had been arguing since childhood, Hattori Heizo and Hattori Shizuka exchanged a glance and shook their heads helplessly.
"Honey, when I got home today, I saw that little boy named Jonah with you. What do you think of him?"
"He was a very well-behaved and adorable child. He was helping me move things at the time. Honestly, if Heiji had been like Jonah when he was young, things would have been much easier for me."
She chuckled softly. Hattori Shizuka had a very good opinion of Jonah, but she also knew that Hattori Heizo didn't want to hear such a compliment.
"But what Kazuha said is right, Jonah is indeed a bit different."
"I observed that when he arrived at the house, he immediately took a close look at his surroundings, as if trying to figure something out, and he showed great interest in the various short knives in the house."
"The most interesting thing was that when little Jonah became curious about the dagger in our house, Mr. Maori and the others who were with us immediately became more alert."
"Is that so? It seems this child is indeed somewhat different."
He nodded thoughtfully, but Hattori Heizo had only asked casually; he didn't think a child who had just started elementary school could pose any danger.
Although he doesn't usually praise Hattori Heiji, Hattori Heizo does approve of his son.
If Hattori Heiji considers me a friend, then there shouldn't be any problems.
Despite some incidents, this trip to Osaka was still quite enjoyable.
After returning to Tokyo by train, Jonah was also dragged by Eri to the mall to buy a lot of winter clothes.
"Winter clothes?"
"Yeah, it's going to snow starting tomorrow. Jonah, you don't have any winter clothes yet, do you? We need to buy some more today. Ah, this looks nice. Ran would probably like it. Let's get one for Conan too."
Jonah blinked blankly, looking at the dazzling sunlight outside the window. He then took out his phone and checked the date displayed on it. Although he felt something was wrong, he also felt as if he had forgotten something.
But this doubt was quickly dispelled. At Sonoko Suzuki's invitation, Ran Mouri agreed to attend an offline gathering of magicians. Kogoro Mouri, worried about the two girls traveling alone, even rented a car to take them to the gathering.
Achoo-
After sneezing, Conan Edogawa, sitting in the passenger seat wearing a mask, shook his head, feeling a bit of a headache. Due to the sudden drop in temperature, Conan had accidentally caught a cold.
Unfortunately, Jonah couldn't escape this time either, catching a cold from Conan Edogawa. Although his symptoms weren't as severe as Conan's because of his better physical condition, he still felt very stuffy and had difficulty breathing.
Sitting next to Ran Mouri in the back row, Jonah listened to Sonoko Suzuki and Ran Mouri chatting happily for a while. Feeling that something was wrong, Jonah blinked and leaned over to look at Sonoko Suzuki.
"Sonoko-neechan, did you break up with your boyfriend?"
"Huh? No, Ah-Zhen and I are very close. Why is Jonah suddenly asking this?"
The sudden question startled both Sonoko Suzuki and Ran Mouri. Sonoko looked at Jonah with confusion, wondering why he would think that way.
"Because you seem really excited to meet the handsome guy, Sonoko-neechan."
"Well."
"Haha, did you hear that, Sonoko? Even Jonah thinks there's something wrong with what you're doing!"
"Damn it, Xiaolan, you're making fun of me too! Take this!"
