Chapter 42
Firefight! Firefight!
"Then the plan is set. Haibara and I will go in to investigate and try to find Pisco. Jonah and the Doctor will stay outside and keep an eye out for when Gin arrives!"
After assigning everyone their responsibilities, Conan Edogawa and Ai Haibara jogged to the Beika Hotel, searching for the location of the memorial service they had overheard Gin mentioning on the phone.
Jonah wasted no time. He and the Doctor sat in the car observing the road in front of the restaurant. Jonah also took out a backpack from the trunk, opened it, and loaded bullets into the magazine.
His practiced and ruthless movements made even Professor Agasa, who was sitting in front of him, feel a chill.
Although he knew that Jonah might have asked him to bring weapons, Professor Agasa never expected that Jonah would have such a comprehensive arsenal of weapons hidden in his house!
Pistols, rifles, and even grenades.
"Hey Jonah, I can forget about other things, but isn't it a bit unsafe for you to leave a grenade in my house?"
"They're not grenades, they're smoke grenades and flashbangs, there's no danger."
"Oh, oh, that's good, that's good."
Dr. Agasa nodded silently. He really wanted to ask Jonah where he got all these weapons, but considering that the most important thing right now was to find APTX-4869 and evade Gin's pursuit, he had no choice but to put his doubts aside.
But soon, what Professor Agasa and Jonah were worried about happened. After waiting for a long time, they saw Conan Edogawa run out with a grim expression, open the car door, sit in the passenger seat, and turn on Professor Agasa's computer. He then used the software on the computer to try to remotely contact Ai Haibara, who was wearing glasses with a communication function.
"Ai is missing? Was she kidnapped by that organization?"
"It's still uncertain. We got caught in the crowd, and when I turned around, I couldn't find her. She didn't come back or reply. She must have run into some trouble."
After calmly listening to the messages coming from the other end of his eyes for a while and confirming that there were no footsteps or sounds, Conan Edogawa began to try to call out to Ai Haibara.
The wait was agonizing, but thankfully, Ai Haibara quickly regained consciousness and re-established contact with Conan Edogawa.
"Haibara, what exactly happened outside?"
"We got separated by the crowd. I wanted to catch up with you, and then... I remembered, someone hugged me from behind and knocked me unconscious. I'm in a wine cellar somewhere I don't know where."
"wine cellar?"
Upon hearing Ai Haibara's location, Conan Edogawa was about to ask something when he saw Jonah behind him simply push open the car door with his bag on his back.
"Wait, Jonah!"
He quickly called out to Jonah, and Conan Edogawa looked at Jonah seriously, then quickly gave his analysis.
"Haibara is definitely still in one of the wine cellars at the Beika Hotel. You can go look for her, but be careful not to get discovered. If I'm not mistaken, that guy named Pisco is trapped at the crime scene and can't move freely."
"But you can't ask the hotel staff, otherwise if that organization launches an investigation later, they will definitely find out that you searched for the wine cellar."
"I'm leaving the rescue of Ai Haibara to you. I'll work on figuring out who the culprit is as quickly as possible, and prevent the news of Ai Haibara's exposure from getting out!"
"Leave it to me!"
Jonah nodded seriously to Conan Edogawa, put on his Bluetooth headset to maintain communication, and quickly ran to the Beika Hotel with his tactical backpack on his back.
Based on what Jonah had learned from watching television, he knew that wine cellars in most restaurants were on lower floors, meaning Jonah didn't need to go to a very high place.
Carefully avoiding places where he could easily be spotted, Jonah moved quickly through the Beihu Hotel, searching every suspicious room.
Although Jonah was searching very quickly, the Beika Hotel was simply too large for Jonah to search alone. Meanwhile, Conan Edogawa brought more bad news.
"Gin and vodka have appeared, Jonah, you'd better watch out!"
"I see."
Jonah's expression changed, and after thinking for a moment, he took out a mask from his backpack and put it on his head.
Since searching from the ground is not working, I'll start from the roof. In the communication, Ai Haibara said that there is a large chimney in her wine cellar, so if there is a chimney, it must be extending out of the roof to exhaust gas!
Jonah burst through the fire escape door and quickened his pace, running tirelessly toward the roof. Finally, after sweating profusely, he was about to reach the roof.
But faster than Jonah reached the roof was the sound of silenced pistols firing from the roof.
Upon hearing the gunshot, Jonah's expression changed drastically. He took a deep breath and continued running uphill, unzipping his backpack as he ran, turning it into a bulletproof vest, and fastening it. He then took the rifle off the hook and held it in his hand.
Without concealing his footsteps, Jonah, with only one corner remaining, whispered to Haibara, whose weak breathing could only be heard over the channel, "Close your eyes!"
The flashbang was thrown directly, hit the wall, and bounced out of the rooftop door.
Faced with the sudden flashbang, Gin and Vodka instinctively dodged. Both reacted quickly. Vodka, who was wearing sunglasses, was only startled and was not injured.
But the damage came right afterward!
Jonah leaped and leaned against the door, raised his automatic rifle, aimed it at Vodka and Gin, and pulled the trigger without hesitation, beginning a frenzied barrage of fire!
Compared to Gin's silenced pistol, Jonah's rifle had no muzzle attachments whatsoever, and its sound was so violent that it alerted the police officers downstairs who were preparing to evacuate.
"Damn it, where did this lunatic come from!"
Even Gin was taken aback by Jonah's insane behavior. Opening fire with an automatic rifle in the middle of the city—which organization was so fearless, trying to cause trouble?
What organization did Sherry join after defecting from her previous organization that would do something like this to save her?
One magazine was quickly emptied, and Jonah swiftly replaced it with a second magazine, continuing to suppress Gin and Vodka's positions.
Jonah's marksmanship is beyond doubt. After Gin and Vodka, defying the odds, failed in their attempt to break through by taking a bullet each, Jonah could only obediently hide behind the central air conditioning exhaust fan on the side to avoid the bullets.
Gin is formidable, but even he can't fight back with a pistol while under the fire of an automatic rifle.
Seeing how wary Gin and Vodka were, Jonah knew that his plan to kill them outright was doomed.
I only have four magazines in total, and I can't possibly empty them all here.
With an idea in mind, Jonah took out a smoke grenade, bit off the pin with his teeth, and threw it towards Ai Haibara's location.
