Chapter 99
Where did I come from? Is it still Tokyo?
Knowing the seriousness of the situation, Jonah didn't hesitate. He turned around, rushed out of the crime scene, and took a taxi directly back to the detective agency.
Just as Jonah reached the bottom of the stairs, he spotted Ran Mouri coming down from upstairs, humming a tune and looking very happy.
Ran Mouri was taken aback when Jonah suddenly returned: "Jonah, weren't you with Conan and the others helping the client find something?"
"They're still looking, but I got bored and came back first."
Jonah blinked and made up an excuse so that Ran wouldn't suspect anything.
"Where is Sister Xiaolan going?"
"I'm going to buy some new ingredients, Jonah, will you come with me? Dad won a lot of money betting on horses, so let's have a nice meal tonight!"
Ran Mouri reached out and took Jonah's hand, then happily walked towards the supermarket, chatting enthusiastically with Jonah the whole way.
While responding to Ran Mouri's words, Jonah subtly observed his surroundings.
Unfortunately, even after Jonah had finished shopping with Ran Mouri and returned to the detective agency, he still hadn't found anyone suspicious.
"So nothing was found."
Having solved the case, Conan Edogawa quickly ran back to the detective agency and breathed a sigh of relief when he saw that Jonah and Ran Mouri were both safe and sound and ready to eat.
However, the fact that Kogoro Mouri's investigation record was stolen and then returned made Conan Edogawa more vigilant. Conan Edogawa was almost certain that this was 90% the work of the Black Organization.
However, the other party did not take any drastic action after conducting the investigation, simply because they could not imagine such a bizarre thing as Shinichi Kudo turning into a child like Conan Edogawa.
Conan Edogawa was tense, and Jonah was just as nervous.
Unlike Conan Edogawa, who can use his brain to think about how to deal with the impending crisis, Jonah, who is not good at thinking, can only face the crisis with action.
"So, what are these things?"
Seeing Jonah suddenly return with a large box while Ran and Kogoro Mouri were away from home after only one day, Conan Edogawa, who was reading a detective novel to relieve stress, curiously approached. At first, he thought that Eri Kisaki had bought something for Jonah, but when Jonah opened the box and saw a bunch of electronic accessories and cameras inside, Conan blinked blankly.
"It's about easily concealed cameras and matching monitoring equipment. Conan, you're so smart, help me think of the best places to put them."
Jonah took out the cameras one by one and turned to Conan Edogawa for help.
These were all things he had asked Dave to prepare urgently. During the last operation against Gin at the Twin Towers in West Tama City, Jonah realized how important it was to have a field of vision. When they were at the detective agency, they could effectively keep watch, but when they were not there, they couldn't let the detective agency be easily breached!
"A camera is also a good idea."
Nodding in agreement, Conan Edogawa also became interested. He walked over to the coffee table, sat down, and helped Jonah take out the camera. He even flipped through the instruction manual that Dave had handwritten for Jonah to make it easy to operate.
"Jonah, your friend is really something... Hmm, besides the camera, what else does he have?"
As Conan Edogawa took out the items one by one, he was about to praise Dave when he suddenly realized that the item he was holding was slightly different in shape from the camera he had just seen.
"There are some other things as well."
Holding the list of items and detailed descriptions that Dave had prepared for him, Jonathan introduced each item to Conan Edogawa one by one.
"This is a launcher that can fire an electric grid; this is a concealed device that can fire bullets; this sleeve-like thing can eject the poison stored inside, rendering the enemy incapable of resistance."
"Dave helped me modify these things. They can all be connected to the monitoring system. The program inside can be set to trigger the program, so it can be turned on manually or automatically. That's what Dave told me, but I don't really understand it. Conan, you should know how."
"...I probably will, but are you planning to install all these things at home?"
The previously enthusiastic expression on his face stiffened. Looking at these strangely shaped "weapons" in front of him, Conan Edogawa suddenly had a thought: if Jonah introduced Dave and Professor Agasa, the two might get along very well.
"Of course, otherwise why would I bring it back?"
Seeing the subtle expression on Conan Edogawa's face, Jonah thought for a moment and assumed that Conan Edogawa felt that these defensive measures were too weak, so he also put on a serious face and said.
"I originally wanted Dave to help me prepare some trip mines, but Dave said that it wouldn't be easy to explain using trip mines in a residential area for self-defense afterwards, so I had to give up. So, it seems I really need to prepare some more powerful weapons?"
"No, believe me, Jonah, this is enough!"
Upon hearing Jonah's concerns, Conan Edogawa quickly called for a halt. The equipment they had acquired was already somewhat excessive for ordinary residents; if they were to use landmines as well, it would be truly outrageous.
Although he felt that the equipment in front of him was already troublesome enough, Conan Edogawa still cooperated with Jonah to select several suitable locations and set up hidden cameras and self-defense equipment.
The detective agency used half of it, and the other half was to be delivered to Professor Agasa's house. So, Conan Edogawa called Professor Agasa the night before and briefly explained the situation. The next day, he and Jonah went to Professor Agasa's house with the items.
"Wow, even the Japanese police can't seem to get their hands on these things. Jonah, just who is your friend?"
At Professor Agasa's house, Conan Edogawa and Jonah were surprised to find Heiji Hattori, whom they had just parted ways with in Osaka, there. After asking around, they learned that Professor Agasa thought the matter was very serious and had taken the initiative to contact them to help.
After all, there are only so many people in the opposing organization whom we know well. Dr. Agasa knows that he is too old to be on the front lines, so he can only try to call Heiji Hattori to help.
Jonah also learned that Conan Edogawa was going to investigate Jodie Starling, the Teitan High School English teacher who everyone found rather strange, together with Heiji Hattori.
"Besides these things, what other weapons have you prepared to fight those dangerous people?"
Seeing that Conan Edogawa and Professor Agasa both agreed to help Heiji Hattori, Jonah's attitude became more friendly after learning that this person, whose skin was even darker than his own, was also an ally.
After hearing Hattori Heiji's words, Jonah thought for a moment and decided to close the distance between them a little, so he took the initiative to extend an invitation.
Would you like to come and have a look around?
"What are you visiting?"
Upon hearing this, aside from Professor Agasa's expression instantly becoming subtle, Heiji Hattori and Conan Edogawa were both stunned for a moment, and then curiously followed Jonah to the storage room on the second floor.
When Jonah used the switch and fingerprint to make the wall slowly "crack open," revealing the gun cabinet inside, along with various weapons and grenades neatly arranged on it, Conan Edogawa and Heiji Hattori were completely dumbfounded.
"...Kudo, am I still in Tokyo?"
"Doctor! What on earth is going on?!"
