Chapter 33
Suzuki Sonoko Falls into Another Trap
Seeing that Conan Edogawa still showed no signs of waking up, Jonah did not stay in the room any longer. He carried his backpack and walked out of the villa. Jonah began to check the villa's telephone lines from the beginning and finally found the break on the side near the warehouse.
Continuing on, Jonah found another telephone line swaying in the wind on a utility pole, put on gloves, and pulled it back to the warehouse.
Jonah opened his backpack, took out pliers and electrical tape, and began to reconnect the telephone line according to the telephone repair methods he had learned from television.
Jonah had made a point of remembering this after the last time they were at the Suzuki family's villa, when the telephone line was cut and they were unable to contact the outside world.
Cell phone signals are not very good nowadays. In any slightly remote area, normal communication is impossible, and almost every household has a landline phone.
Jonah felt it was very important to be able to send a message to the outside world when he was in danger, so he specifically learned this skill.
Fortunately, repairing the copper core telephone line was not difficult. Jonah quickly reconnected the telephone line, returned to the villa, reconnected the landline power, and dialed Kogoro Mouri's cell phone from memory.
"Feed? Who's there?!"
The call was quickly connected, and Jonah could tell that Kogoro Mouri's tone wasn't good; he was clearly worried about losing contact with Ran Mouri.
"Uncle, it's me. I've reconnected the phone line."
"Jonah! How's it going on your end? Did Conan manage to get there safely? What about Ran and Sonoko?"
Upon hearing Jonah's voice, Kogoro Mouri jumped up from his chair and excitedly began asking about the situation at the villa.
"Conan is resting in bed. Ran and Sonoko are both fine. Because Conan made a dangerous gesture towards me, I took everyone in the villa into custody."
"Well done, Jonah!"
Hearing Jonah's words, Kogoro Mouri finally breathed a sigh of relief. He had never felt so reassured by Jonah's existence.
"Listen to me, I heard the police investigation report on the radio. Someone who was supposed to attend today's magic enthusiasts' gathering was found dead at home. He was murdered, and the killer left a declaration of a series of killings. The killer must be among those people! The police can't get there directly until dawn. You need to keep them under control!"
"I found a crossbow in one of their luggage. She's the prime suspect. Ran and Sonoko are watching them right now, and I won't let them go until the police arrive tomorrow."
"Okay! I'll leave that to you... and Jonah, just keep them under control and don't let them do anything dangerous."
"I know, Uncle."
After finishing his call with Kogoro Mouri, Jonah went back upstairs and saw Conan Edogawa waking up from his coma, staring blankly at the group of people who were tied together and all unconscious with their heads tilted to the side.
"Conan, you're awake."
"Yeah, I was only unconscious for an hour, and it's already over?"
He shook his head with a wry smile, but looking at Jonah, whose expression wasn't very rich, Conan Edogawa felt a sense of relief, just like Kogoro Mouri.
Indeed, entrusting this task to Jonah was the right decision.
The more Conan Edogawa looked at Jonah, the more satisfied he became. He thought that since his idol was Sherlock Holmes, could he try to train Jonah to be his own Watson?
"Jonah, what were you doing outside just now? I think I heard you talking downstairs?"
Looking at Jonah strangely, Ran Mouri had just wanted to go downstairs to check the situation, but Conan Edogawa suddenly woke up and delayed her. By the time she wanted to go downstairs again, Jonah had already come up.
"I reconnected the broken phone line and just got in touch with my uncle. He said that the snowstorm is too heavy right now, and it's too difficult for helicopters to fly low over the forest at night, so the police won't be able to come until dawn."
"Hey Jonah, you can even fix phone lines?"
Looking at Jonah in surprise, Sonoko Suzuki, who was feeling a bit bored, never expected Jonah to bring her such a pleasant surprise.
"Hmm, I've learned how. Does Sonoko-neechan need to call home?"
Jonah looked at Sonoko Suzuki with some anticipation. Having known Sonoko Suzuki for so long, Jonah knew to some extent how powerful the Suzuki family was.
Jonah believed that if the police couldn't come, the Suzuki family might have a solution.
Although Jonah has now brought the situation under control, he is never one to let his guard down, and every moment remains dangerous until he is completely out of danger.
Jonah will not be at ease unless he is allowed to kill all of them.
"That's true. I'll call and ask. Sigh, I'm going to get scolded by my mom again this time."
Frustrated, Sonoko Suzuki scratched her head, thinking about how she had once again gone out to play without a bodyguard and ended up in danger. She really didn't know how her strict mother would scold her.
Although she was somewhat reluctant, Sonoko Suzuki knew that getting out of the dangerous environment was the most important thing right now, and she had to try, regardless of whether she succeeded or not.
As expected, after calling to explain what had happened and confirming that Sonoko Suzuki was alright, Tomoko Suzuki gave Sonoko a thorough dressing-down over the phone, leaving Sonoko to listen quietly with an embarrassed smile.
"I'll arrange for someone to pick you up right away. Until then, stay put and don't cause any trouble for others, understand?"
"I didn't cause any trouble; I even helped Jonah find the murderer's weapon."
"You're not even as capable as a child! I'm telling you, don't cause Jonah any trouble, and don't make him have to worry about protecting you!"
"oh."
She gave a pitiful reply, and after hanging up the phone, Sonoko Suzuki couldn't help but pick Jonah up and shake him a couple of times in a fit of frustration.
"Jonah, do you think I should learn to shoot too?"
"I have no idea."
Jonah was taken aback when Sonoko Suzuki suddenly came up with this idea, but he still spoke his mind honestly.
"Weapons are not good things, but weapons can protect you."
"Jonah, don't you like weapons? I thought you really liked all kinds of guns."
"I hate weapons because they took away my family and friends, but I can't live without them; I feel insecure without them."
"..."
With a change in expression, Sonoko Suzuki looked at her itchy right hand and finally couldn't resist slapping her face.
"What's wrong, Sonoko-neechan?"
"It's nothing, there just seem to be some mosquitoes."
"But the teacher said there are no mosquitoes in winter."
"Really? Maybe it's an invasive species. Let's go upstairs!"
