Chapter 8

Jonah's Insecurity

Conan Edogawa, who had just returned to the main hall of the castle and was about to go look for Jonah, heard cries for help coming from the direction of the tower ruins.

Before the group could react, they saw Mutsumi Nishikawa running towards them at lightning speed. Upon seeing them, she rushed forward and circled around to behind the largest professor, Professor Agasa, grabbing his clothes tightly to shield him.

"Call the police! Quick! Get the police to take me away, hurry! That brat is going to kill me! He's going to kill me!"

Looking at Mutsumi Nishikawa, whose clothes were torn and who appeared to have at least five or six bleeding knife wounds, Conan Edogawa's expression was subtle. He then turned to Jonah, who was carrying a kitchen knife and hurriedly chasing after them, his face still stained with blood, and couldn't help but sigh.

"Jonah, put the knife down first."

"Conan, Professor Agasa, are you alright?"

Seeing everyone reappear, Jonah's heart, which had been pounding with anxiety, calmed down a little. However, he didn't put down the blood-stained kitchen knife in his hand, his eyes fixed on Mutsumi Nishikawa, who was trying to hide.

"She's a bad person; she tried to kill me in the secret passage."

"You're talking nonsense! You were the one who attacked me with a knife first, and then you kept chasing me!"

She cursed under her breath, but noticing that Jonah was still staring at her, Mutsumi Nishikawa quickly shrank back behind Professor Agasa.

"It's alright now, we've already called the police, they'll be here soon. Jonah, we're all safe now, you can put the knife down too."

After being persuaded by Conan Edogawa, Jonah thought about it for a moment and then threw the kitchen knife aside.

"No, he still has a knife! I saw it when I ran!"

"...Jonah."

"..." With a blank expression, Jonah threw out another kitchen knife. Under Conan Edogawa's gaze, Jonah remained silent for a moment before taking out the remaining kitchen knife as well.

"You've worked hard, Jonah. Let's go inside and get some rest."

Rubbing his aching head, Conan Edogawa, who had already been hit with a stick, felt even more dizzy.

"Are you really going to kill her?"

Inside the room, Conan Edogawa and Professor Agasa explained everything that had happened to the awakened homeowners, while Ai Haibara found a handkerchief, wet it, and went to Jonah to wipe his face, which was stained with blood and mortar.

"I need to find Conan and the professor, and I also need to protect you."

With a blink, Jonah uttered words that sent a shiver down Ai Haibara's spine, but then straightened his face and tapped Jonah on the head.

"Don't forget what you promised Attorney Fei."

"I can control where the knife will strike; I won't kill her."

"Maiming someone is unacceptable!"

With a sigh of headache, Ai Haibara was somewhat worried. She didn't dislike Jonah, so she couldn't help but worry about whether Jonah could better integrate into this society.

Although Ai Haibara, who comes from an organization, knows that many violent and cruel things happen in this seemingly glamorous society, those things need to be done in the shadows and cannot be openly displayed.

Jonah didn't answer Ai Haibara's question. In his opinion, it was already strange to spare the enemy's life in battle. The other party had already shown murderous intent towards him. Did he have to wait until the other party's stick hit him before he could fight back?

But seeing Ai Haibara wiping his face with a serious expression, Jonah didn't say anything more, just nodded silently.

The police arrived relatively quickly. Although they were somewhat surprised to see the wounds on Mutsumi Nishikawa's body, they didn't pursue the matter further after Mutsumi, who was already terrified and had been fooled by Conan Edogawa, said that there was no problem.

A crisis quietly dissipated, but the three members of the Junior Detective League were very curious about Jonah's fighting prowess during the crisis and kept asking him what exactly happened.

There wasn't much of a good way, so Conan Edogawa could only slightly embellish the story, portraying Jonah as a child who had undergone boy soldier training and was rescued by Eri Kisaki, without revealing that Jonah had actually killed anyone.

Even so, it was enough to fill the three little ones with amazement as they looked at Jonah.

Jonah paid no attention to the three children's curiosity; his curiosity was completely drawn to the various amazing gadgets made by Professor Agasa that Conan Edogawa displayed.

Faced with Jonah's curiosity, Professor Agasa, like a child, showed off his inventions and said that he could make one for Jonah as Jonah requested.

"Firearms are not suitable, so I need a portable crossbow that can be disassembled and installed easily, as well as matching arrows. If possible, I would also like to coat the arrows with the anesthetic agents that you invented, Doctor."

"The shoes just need to be of suitable power, but I want a jacket that looks like ordinary clothes but has bulletproof function, and preferably can also be cut-resistant."

"Doctor, if you can make fireworks, can you also make smoke bombs?"

"What about the grenade?"

"..."

In the end, Jonah only received a pair of soccer shoes that could enhance his leg strength and a badge from Professor Agasa; nothing else was prepared for him.

Although he knew that Professor Agasa was also worried about him, Jonah was not in a good mood. He originally thought that Eri had brought him to a completely safe place, but he did not expect that he would still encounter so many dangers in Beika City.

Having no guns, or even any decent weapons, made Jonah feel very insecure.

But where should he get the weapons, and how could he conceal them from his friend Conan Edogawa, who has such keen observation skills?

Thinking about all this, Jonah couldn't help but feel a little worried. Finally, Jonah, who was really itching to shoot, couldn't resist taking out the pocket money that Eri had given him when he passed by a shooting booth outside an amusement park. He exchanged it for a gun and 10 bullets and started shooting at the balloons on the booth.

The furthest target was only 10, and even if the balloons on the target kept rotating and moving, it was not a difficult target for Jonah to aim at.

After firing 10 bullets, Jonah felt a little better and prepared to fire another 10 bullets to have some fun. However, he found that a man wearing a baseball cap and sunglasses was suddenly standing next to him, and he also exchanged a gun and 10 bullets with the boss.

Jonah didn't pay much attention at first, but when the man shot first and hit the balloon he had aimed at for the third time, Jonah realized something was wrong.

Jonah, having abandoned his aiming posture, looked up at the man beside him in confusion. The man, too, stopped shooting and looked down at Jonah, as if waiting for Jonah to continue firing.

Jonah blinked, said nothing, raised his gun again, and fired at an even faster pace.

He wanted to see how many more times this man could beat him to it!
