Chapter 58
Trouble? Then let's solve the trouble.
A single shot accurately struck the peddler in the abdomen, causing him to collapse in pain and let out a agonizing howl.
Although he wasn't planning to kill them outright, in the current environment, Jonah couldn't possibly aim that accurately. So if someone was unlucky enough to be shot and killed, Jonah could only say that the other person was just unlucky.
The sudden attack threw the remaining peddlers into a panic, and they immediately gathered together and became vigilant about their surroundings.
Unfortunately, they didn't carry any effective lighting tools; the seven of them only had one flashlight, making it difficult to provide good visibility in the forest on a rainy night.
Not to mention, they were facing a young mountain soldier who had actually experienced the battlefield.
After launching his first attack, Jonah did not stay in one place. He quickly moved to the other side, positioned himself, and chose a new target to fire at.
With two companions fallen, the remaining peddler could no longer control his fear. A man standing among the other peddlers finally couldn't resist pulling out a pistol from his pocket, holding it in his hand and looking around warily, as if having a weapon would ensure his safety. Little did he know that Jonah was waiting for him to take out the pistol.
Having located the second pistol in the group of peddlers, Jonah knew exactly where it was and, without hesitation, pointed his gun at the armed peddler. Two bullets were fired, one hitting the pistol and the other hitting his shoulder.
The pistol was knocked away, and the group of bookworms panicked even more. Some tried to pick up the gun to defend themselves, but Jonah kept a close eye on the direction the pistol had fallen. Every bookworm who tried to get close became Jonah's new target and fell on his way to retrieve the gun.
Jonah only emerged from his hiding place when he had emptied all the bullets from his pistol. He then attacked the last moneylender who was standing there with a gunshot wound to the shoulder and a look of terror on his face.
The drug dealer offered no resistance whatsoever. In fact, when he saw Jonah rushing towards him, a hint of relief flashed in his eyes before Jonah knocked him unconscious.
Jonah picked up the pistol that had been knocked away, then looked around to make sure he had dealt with all the swindlers.
Just as Jonah was about to go back and explain the situation to Kogoro Mouri and the others, he suddenly heard footsteps in the forest that were trying to hide but were revealed because of their urgency. Jonah narrowed his eyes, took out his second pistol which was fully loaded with bullets, and quickly moved closer.
Leaning against a tree, Jonah recognized the three people who had come: Kogoro Mouri, Heiji Hattori, and Conan Edogawa, all looking anxious. Knowing that they had come to see him, Jonah didn't want to keep them in a hurry. He stepped out and made a sound to attract their attention.
"Uncle, I'm here."
"Jonah! Are you alright?"
Suddenly turning his head, Kogoro Mouri saw Jonah emerge from behind the tree trunk. He quickly ran over, carefully examined Jonah, and only after confirming that Jonah was unharmed did he angrily raise his hand and slam it down on Jonah's head.
"Jonah, how could you run out alone? Don't you know how dangerous that is!"
Jonah blinked, clutching his head. This was the first time Jonah had been hit on the head by Kogoro Mouri. Usually, the person who received this kind of treatment was Conan Edogawa, who liked to run around the crime scene.
Jonah wasn't angry, because when he looked up he could see Kogoro Mouri's eyes were red from worry, and he knew just how worried Kogoro Mouri was about him when he secretly attacked the peddler.
Jonah did not regret his decision. Compared to letting ordinary people like Kogoro Mouri face armed enemies, Jonah felt it was better to handle it himself.
"sorry."
He whispered an apology, but seeing Jonah's unchanged expression, both Kogoro Mouri and Conan Edogawa knew that Jonah had not changed his mind because of Kogoro Mouri's reprimand.
This left them feeling helpless and extremely upset.
If they could provide Jonah with more security, perhaps he wouldn't always take such risky risks alone.
But...can they really provide Jonah with a sense of security? It seems like ever since they met Jonah, it's been Jonah who has been providing them with that sense of security, right?
Looking at the pistol that Jonah was still holding, Kogoro Mouri sighed, scratched his hair in frustration, and didn't know what to say.
Seeing this, Hattori Heiji, who had only met Jonah a few times, remained calm and broke the silence: "We found a man unconscious over there and have him under control, Jonah. What about the others?"
"They're all over there."
Led by Jonah, Kogoro Mouri and his two companions finally arrived at the place where the swindlers had fallen. Seeing that all seven men had gunshot wounds, Conan Edogawa covered his head in exasperation, then quickly ran over and, together with Kogoro Mouri and Heiji Hattori, began to examine the seven men.
"Fortunately, the gunshot wounds are not serious. They only require simple treatment. After stopping the bleeding, don't move around too much. There shouldn't be any problems when the police come tomorrow."
Straightening up, Hattori Heiji shook the blood off his hands and looked at Jonah with amazement.
Although he had heard Conan Edogawa talk about Jonah's glorious achievements, seeing is believing. After witnessing Jonah's feat of fighting 1v8 in the forest, Heiji Hattori knew that he could never joke about Jonah again.
Faced with this scene of 'corpses strewn everywhere', Hattori Heiji no longer dared to treat Jonah like a child!
After confirming that no one would die from the gunshot wounds, Conan Edogawa and Heiji Hattori ran to the Takeda family first. They asked Ryuji Takeda to drive the truck to the road closest to the forest and park it. Then they loaded all eight smugglers onto the truck and delivered it to the Takeda family's warehouse.
The Takeda family members were very surprised to see the eight drug dealers being transported back. They did not know that their eldest brother, Takeda Shinichi, was using dolls to transport drugs, and they never expected that they would almost be targeted by these drug dealers tonight.
Although Ran Mouri and Kazuha Toyama were a little scared, they still helped Heiji Hattori and the others treat the injuries on the seven bookworms and stop their bleeding. Ironically, the first bookworm attacked by Jonah became the lucky one, as he was not hit by a single shot and is now sleeping soundly in a blissful state.
"What should we say when the police come tomorrow?"
With his hands on his hips, looking at the parasites who were tied up and sitting in a row, Hattori Heiji scratched his head and raised a question that had to be addressed.
"Just say I did it. I used to be a policeman, so it's plausible that I fired the gun."
Kogoro Mouri stepped forward, wanting to take on this responsibility in Jonah's place.
"Jonah, did any of them see you when you were acting?"
Kogoro Mouri's idea was good, but Conan Edogawa turned to Jonah and asked another crucial question.
"Will he get into trouble if he sees this?"
Jonah pointed to the last person he had knocked down and asked thoughtfully.
"Yes, he does. If he sees you, it will be a bit troublesome for Uncle Kogoro to claim responsibility for the shooting..."
锵-
"Wait! Jonah, stop! Put the dagger down!"
