Chapter 772
Jonah: Learning Makes Me Improve
Looking at the news on his phone, Conan Edogawa frowned and instinctively answered Mitsuhiko's question, but his attention was clearly not on the three children.
If Conan Edogawa had simply seen this news, he might have just thought about it, rather than taking it so seriously.
But just an hour earlier, when Conan Edogawa was still on the train to Wakasa Base, he received a message from Dave.
Conan Edogawa has Dave's contact information. Although he hasn't officially joined Jonah's team like Kaito Kuroba, everyone in Jonah's team is familiar with Conan Edogawa.
They had all more or less interacted with Conan Edogawa and knew just how amazing this child, who was the same age as Jonah but whose intelligence was so outrageous that they all thought it was just unbelievable, really was.
However, upon closer reflection, Kaito Kuroba and Eisuke Hondo of Jonah's team know Conan Edogawa's true identity, and while Dave hasn't actually heard the answer, he has his own judgment.
Even Rumi Wakasa and Curaçao, who were unaware of the full situation, had encountered trouble with Conan Edogawa and knew just how capable this self-proclaimed detective "little boy" was.
Not to mention, when Jonah was injured by the bomb, Conan Edogawa took the initiative to stand up and disguised himself as the "Dwarf Killer" to participate in the revenge operation with the team members. In Dave's eyes, he was practically one of their own.
Although they don't usually contact each other, they will still offer help when needed.
After all, Jonah was the one who connected them, and both of them knew how important the other was to Jonah.
So when Conan Edogawa received Dave's call, although he found it a bit strange, he did not refuse Dave's request.
"Keep an eye on the Hotaka and see if you can spot any suspicious spies."
Upon hearing that Dave had actually assigned this task to him, Conan Edogawa, after his initial shock, immediately became serious and got into work mode.
Originally, he wasn't particularly interested in visiting the Hodaka, but now he couldn't wait to board the warship and find out who the spy might be.
Of course, Conan Edogawa was also thinking about other things.
Although Dave didn't tell Conan Edogawa exactly what kind of operation they were carrying out, Conan Edogawa used his brain, which Jonah had always admired, and quickly guessed a possibility.
Generally, when Jonah's squad accepts a collective commission, it is to assassinate or annihilate someone, but this time the mission is to find a spy.
This isn't the kind of commission Dave and his team would readily accept. This kind of mission, with its strong official feel, is probably something someone else comes to them directly.
Ryuichi Shiraishi.
The name immediately came to mind for Conan Edogawa, allowing him to roughly guess the whole story.
It seems that Ryuichi Shiraishi received information about spies, but due to some special issues, he couldn't fully utilize official resources to investigate and apprehend them. Therefore, he had to entrust the task to Jonah and his group of skilled individuals hidden in the shadows.
The fact that Dave entrusted him with the task of investigating whether there were any suspects on the Hodaka also proves another thing: Jonah, who could have easily used his public identity to tour the Hodaka with them, had other tasks to complete and didn't have time to come along.
Conan Edogawa knows Jonah very well. He knows exactly where Jonah's abilities and talents lie. Secret investigations like this are not Jonah's forte.
Neither Dave nor Ryuichi Shiraishi are fools, so they know very well what it means to put talented people in their rightful place.
What is Jonah suited for?
He glanced down at the news about the explosion on Yagiju Island on his phone and couldn't help but grin.
"You really do manage to cause a huge commotion wherever you go, Jonah."
"I hope everything's alright on your end."
......
"Those damn lunatics, they actually dug out the area beneath the island and buried so many bombs!"
On the speedboat back, after reporting to Ryuichi Shiraishi, the captain of the SAT team slammed his fist into his thigh, venting his anger with curses.
The initial battle went very smoothly. They were a strong combat squad, plus Jonah, who was a lone wolf, caught the enemy off guard and frantically asserted his presence on the flank. They wiped out more than half of the enemy in just 5 minutes.
However, trouble arose while they were chasing down the remaining enemies.
Jonah, who was the first to rush into the tunnel, fired a few shots before realizing something was wrong. He rushed out of the tunnel at top speed and stopped the SAT members who were still preparing to come down to help.
"Run to the beach!"
Jonah's shout was very abrupt, but the SAT team, who had trained together before, reacted very quickly. Trusting Jonah's judgment, they ran towards the distant beach without looking back.
Then they heard a series of muffled explosions coming from beneath their feet, followed by a strong tremor, as if a major earthquake had suddenly occurred.
Despite not being particularly large, the northern part of Yagiju Island continued to fall into the sea after the explosions and tremors, much to everyone's horror.
The SAT members hovering high in the helicopter were dumbfounded, and kept trying to contact the team members to see if they were all still alive.
Fortunately, Jonah reacted quickly, and apart from two unlucky men who sprained their ankles, no one died in this long-planned explosion.
"How much explosives did they plant that could destroy so many parts of the island?"
Sitting to the side, Jonah was also somewhat excited and nervous because of what had just happened.
Fortunately, he continued to learn and grow with Dave and the others. The moment he entered the tunnel, he noticed that the fuses hidden in the mud walls were not right. If he had continued to pursue them in the tunnel, he might have been buried inside.
"There weren't many explosives. The professionals who buried the bombs have already investigated and found that they accidentally buried them at a key ley line node on the island, which damaged the island's overall load-bearing capacity, which is why the effect was so terrifying."
Shaking his head, the squad leader told Jonah the information he had received, still looking annoyed and cursing.
"But this time, we owe you a lot, Jonah. Luckily you reacted quickly, otherwise we would have been in big trouble."
"That group of people are all dead, and we have no way of investigating how long they were preparing on that island or where the bomb came from."
Jonah blinked, feeling a bit regretful about what had just happened. Yagiju Island wasn't that far from the Japanese mainland and had always been under surveillance, yet it had been arranged in this way, which clearly involved a lot of things.
Unfortunately, this part of the matter is being handled by Ryuichi Shiraishi, so Jonah and the others probably won't be able to figure it out.
Back on shore, Jonah didn't ask the squad leader to send anyone to take him. After leaving the base, he soon saw Curaçao driving over to pick him up.
"I heard you blew up an island over there, and we were all shocked when we heard the news."
He handed Jonah a small bag filled with snacks and drinks for him, and then Curaçao drove away from the base's perimeter, heading towards Dave and the others' current location.
"Yeah, those people dug up the island's underground and buried explosives inside. They're a bunch of crazy people who aren't afraid of death."
Jonah tore open a bag of bread, chewing as he asked Dave about their progress.
"There's some trouble. The intelligence agent we suspected from the Wakasa base was found dead in a port within the base this morning."
"That Yosuke Sasaura? Who killed him? Was he silenced?"
After swallowing his bread, Jonah recalled the intelligence officer's name and asked curiously.
"An investigation is underway. The cause of death is still unclear. The body was just pulled from the sea in a strange location. Rachel is keeping an eye on it."
"Rachel? Isn't Kidd more suited for this kind of disguise?"
"Kid has other things to attend to and is currently on the Hotaka."
"Huh?"
