Chapter 67
So what if I beat you up in front of the police?
Amused, Ai Haibara gently pulled Jonah back from running towards the elevator as he angrily tried to stab someone.
"Didn't you see that Kudo has already gone over there? We just need to wait here for a bit. Don't worry, it won't be long. Right now, the person who's most anxious is definitely Kudo."
Jonah believed Ai Haibara's words. Jonah didn't understand what atmosphere or feeling meant. He only knew that Ran Mouri was smiling so happily because Shinichi Kudo was by her side. And now, another case had come up, taking Shinichi Kudo away from Ran Mouri.
Jonah felt very angry at the thought of this.
Jonah clearly remembered that Ai Haibara told him that Conan Edogawa's growth time after taking the antidote would be about 48 hours.
After mentally calculating for a moment, Jonah blankly took out his phone, opened the calculator, and did a precise calculation before a troubled look appeared on his face.
"Haibara, Conan will be turning back soon, right?"
"Yes, not much time left."
Hearing this, Ai Haibara also sighed. She didn't care too much about Conan Edogawa's feelings, but as a woman herself, seeing Ran Mouri not far away with a happy smile, her face turning red and then giggling for no apparent reason, Ai Haibara couldn't help but feel a little sorry for her.
The happy time was really short-lived for Ran Mouri. Next, she had to face another childhood friend who was nowhere to be found, as if he had vanished into thin air.
Jonah followed Ai Haibara to the crime scene, watching Shinichi Kudo continuously complete his investigation and then begin his deductions.
Jonah didn't care who the real culprit was; he just frowned as he watched Shinichi Kudo, whose complexion was getting worse and worse, whose body was becoming weaker, and whose forehead was constantly covered in sweat.
"Haibara, is the drug almost taking effect?"
"Yes, it seems our great detective's plan to confess his feelings has failed."
Watching Shinichi Kudo stumble into the nearby restroom after the prisoner confessed, Ai Haibara followed him in with a flicker of her eye and a look of helplessness.
Jonah didn't follow. Conan Edogawa's clothes were all in Ai Haibara's backpack. He was only supposed to keep watch at the door for a short while.
But before that, Jonah had one more thing he wanted to do.
"Oh, Jonah, what are you doing here? Did you come out to eat with Shinichi and Ran?"
When he saw Jonah suddenly appear, Inspector Megure paused for a moment, then squatted down and greeted Jonah with a smile.
"Hello, Uncle Megure. Is this the criminal?"
Jonah greeted Inspector Megure very politely, then turned to the prisoner who was being held by the police and had his hands handcuffed, and asked.
"Heh heh, yeah, are you with that detective from earlier? Kid, get out of the way, I'm a big bad guy who just killed someone—whoa!"
Having completed his revenge, the prisoner was clearly still in a state of excitement. He actually walked up to Jonah, bent down, and tried to scare the child.
Little did the prisoner know that his actions were convenient for Jonah.
Having no interest in listening to the prisoner's ramblings, Jonah, with a cold face, delivered a powerful right hook to the prisoner's cheek as the prisoner lowered his head. The force was so great that it knocked out two of the prisoner's teeth.
"Uncle Megure, I was scared, I'm sorry."
"...That's true, he really is quite scary. Takagi, what were you doing? Why weren't you watching the prisoner properly? How could you let him fall down!"
"Yes, Inspector Megure! It's my fault. I think I tripped the criminal while walking! I'm so sorry!"
With an apologetic salute, Wataru Takagi and Kazunobu Chiba quickly pulled the still wailing prisoner to his feet and, without further ado, escorted him into the elevator.
"I want to find a lawyer! I'm going to sue you police officers for dereliction of duty..."
The prisoner's voice disappeared as the elevator doors closed. The remaining police officers at the scene rolled their eyes in disgust, thinking that the prisoner didn't appreciate kindness.
He only got punched once; if he really provoked Jonah, he would have several more holes in his body.
The police officers showed a level of leniency towards Jonah's assault that shocked onlookers. They wondered which high-ranking official in the Metropolitan Police Department Jonah was, that he dared to assault someone in front of the police.
"Alright, we're packing up and leaving now. Jonah, you've been behaving very well lately, keep it up!"
For a whole week now, Inspector Megure hadn't heard any reports from his subordinates about Jonah getting involved in any violent incidents, which made him very relieved.
It can only be said that people's bottom line is constantly decreasing. After learning from Kogoro Mouri that Jonah was a former child soldier, and after experiencing so many things, Inspector Megure now only hopes that he will never see Jonah actually kill someone.
He pulled a lollipop from his pocket and handed it to Jonah. Inspector Megure led the team away, and Jonah also looked towards the direction of the restroom. There, Ai Haibara, who had returned to her original appearance, walked out expressionlessly with her bag on her back. Behind her, Conan Edogawa, who had turned back into a child, walked with a sad face and dejected steps.
"Jonah, will you come with me?"
"I want to check on how things are going with Sister Xiaolan."
Jonah shook his head at Ai Haibara, then turned to Conan Edogawa, thought for a moment, and asked, "Conan, how are you going to tell Ran-neechan?"
"Yes, we need to explain this to Xiaolan."
With a long sigh, Conan Edogawa really didn't dare to face Ran Mouri right now, but he knew that he had to step in and resolve this matter himself; it was his responsibility.
Standing silently behind the restaurant partition, Jonah watched as Conan Edogawa walked up to Ran Mouri and said something awkwardly. Ran then covered her ears, lowered her head, and tears welled up in her eyes. Conan Edogawa also looked somber.
Jonah, unable to bear it any longer, blinked and remembered what Ai Haibara had said to him when she left. So he stopped hiding himself and walked out, leaving Ran Mouri and Conan Edogawa stunned.
"Jonah, what are you doing here?"
Ran Mouri, who was already preparing to adjust herself so as not to worry the child because of Conan Edogawa's serious expression, couldn't help but ask Jonah curiously when she saw him suddenly appear.
"The professor knew that Ran-neechan and Shinichi-nii were on a date, so he was curious and wanted to come and see, but he was too scared to come up, so he sent me."
Having given a pre-prepared explanation, Jonah blinked and asked innocently.
"Sister Xiaolan, what does 'confessing your love' mean?"
