Chapter 55
You told me to believe in science
"The letter I received said that tonight another living puppet would be killed by a spider. Now it seems that someone was predicting that a murder would happen."
After announcing his identity as the famous detective from Kansai, Heiji Hattori took control of the scene and began questioning the other members of the Takeda family about the situation. However, he was surprised to learn that the air vent in the room where the deceased Shinichi Takeda was kept was only wide enough for a small child to pass through. Both Heiji Hattori and Conan Edogawa were shocked and their expressions changed.
"If that's the case, then a locked-room murder has occurred here."
"That's what you don't understand. Actually, the Spider Fairy used its long legs to crawl into the warehouse and kill Shinichi."
After listening to the old lady, Chie Takeda's, story, Heiji Hattori and Conan Edogawa were naturally skeptical. They then asked Ryuji Takeda and Yuzo Takeda what had happened and learned that there was a legend about a spider fairy in the area.
Of course, even knowing this legend, the two materialistic high school detectives would not believe such a claim. They firmly believed that someone had come to this warehouse, which had been turned into a locked room, and killed Shinichi Takeda using methods they did not yet understand.
But they didn't believe that a young boy, though still young, was capable enough to believe it.
Busy investigating the situation at the scene, Conan Edogawa momentarily forgot to pay attention to Jonah's whereabouts. When he realized that Jonah was missing, he was stunned for a moment and his face immediately turned panicked.
"What's wrong, Kudo? Did something come to mind?"
Standing next to Conan Edogawa, Heiji Hattori noticed the change in Conan's expression and quickly asked in a low voice.
"Hattori, have you seen where Jonah went?"
"Huh? That kid? I didn't see him. What, are you worried he might be in danger? Don't worry, we're all here, there won't be any problems. Besides, that murderer has no grudge against Jonah, he can't just kill people randomly without a target."
"No, Hattori, that's not what I'm worried about."
"What happened? You have to tell me what happened. Besides, I also have something to ask you about Jonah."
Seeing that no one else was around, Hattori Heiji squatted down, put his arm around Edogawa Conan's shoulder, and quickly asked, "You and Kazuha mentioned seeing Jonah firing a gun in the mountains of Osaka. What exactly happened? I trust you, Kudo. You wouldn't let that little brat play with anything dangerous, would you?"
"I don't want to, but I have to be able to control it!"
When this issue comes up, Conan Edogawa can't help but complain: what Jonah wants to do is none of his business as an ordinary detective.
"I'll tell you when I have time later, but for now, help me find Jonah."
"Ha, finding Jonah's henchman is more important than investigating the murderer?"
"If we can't find Jonah, I'm afraid the murderer will be gone too!"
......
The two began searching for Jonah, but instead encountered Ran Mouri and Kazuha Toyama, who had returned earlier.
The crowd gathered together and announced the news of Shinichi Takeda's death, causing a stir.
"Something's wrong! The police say there was a landslide on the way here, and they're clearing it now. The police won't be able to get here until tomorrow."
Just then, Shioya Miyuki, the nanny of the Takeda family, brought another piece of bad news, casting a shadow over everyone's hearts.
"By the way, Miss Shioya, do you know where Jonah went? He's the little boy with brown skin and white hair who came with us."
"Ah, if it's that child, I think I saw him go to the garage."
Upon receiving the news, Conan Edogawa immediately ran to the garage, followed by Ran Mouri, who had also come after hearing Jonah's name, and the curious Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama.
"Jonah, are you here?"
He opened the garage door and instinctively called out to Jonah, quickly receiving a response from Jonah.
However, when Conan Edogawa walked around the car and saw Jonah sitting on the ground, his vision went white and he almost fainted.
He was still too late.
Jonah sitting on the ground was fine, but the gasoline can with a pipe in front of him spewing gasoline and the eight Molotov cocktails already set up around him were a big problem.
"Jonah, why are you playing with these dangerous things again?"
Ran Mouri, who was following Conan Edogawa, was also surprised to see this scene. She ran to Jonah's side, wanting to reach out and pick him up, but dared not move, for fear of spilling the gasoline.
Ran Mouri's unconscious words startled Heiji Hattori and Kazuha Toyama, who were following behind. They exchanged glances, both seeing the confusion in each other's eyes.
What do you mean by "again"? And Ran Mouri and Conan Edogawa were far too calm in the face of Jonah's inventing of the Molotov cocktail, weren't they?
"To fight the spider monster."
Upon seeing Ran Mouri arrive, Jonah temporarily stopped pouring gasoline into the beer bottle he had found in the storage room outside the kitchen and explained why he had done so.
Jonah was extremely frustrated. He had only brought an electric tranquilizer gun and a dagger with him, and had not brought any weapons that could provide firepower. He had been so careless.
It's fine in the city, but if Jonah were to come to such a remote place again, he decided he would definitely bring a real gun for self-defense.
"Jonah? That's a legend. There's no such thing as a spider fairy."
"How do you know if you haven't seen Conan with your own eyes?"
"It's not true because no one has ever seen it with their own eyes. And Jonah, you have to believe in science. Those legendary demons, monsters, gods, and evil spirits don't exist in reality."
"...Aunt Eri told me that the phenomenon of growing bigger or smaller doesn't actually happen in reality."
"Ahem, anyway, Jonah, you shouldn't continue making such dangerous things. We'll deal with them in a bit, okay?"
Standing right next to Jonah, Conan Edogawa swiftly covered Jonah's mouth, then glanced sideways at Ran Mouri, who was awkwardly explaining something to Kazuha Toyama and hadn't noticed them, before secretly letting out a sigh of relief.
"No, I don't have enough weapons. I need to suppress the enemy with firepower."
"...I'll find the killer as soon as possible. Once I find the killer, please destroy all these things, okay?"
"Okay... I can take one bottle home as a..."
"Absolutely not!"
"oh."
