Chapter 65

Conan's promise is sometimes just like 1.

Jonah was momentarily stunned by Ai Haibara's control over his movements, but he didn't resist.

Following closely behind Kogoro Mouri, Jonah quickly approached the scene of the accident. Looking at the dead body lying on the ground, Jonah blinked, briefly examined it, and found no obvious injuries on the body before obediently standing aside.

A body without knife wounds, gunshot wounds, or even strangulation was of the least value to Jonah.

It's very likely just an ordinary murder case, which can be left to detectives like Kogoro Mouri and Shinichi Kudo.

That's not right either. Shinichi Kudo promised Ai Haibara that he could only meet Ran Mouri secretly, so it seems he can't solve the case himself. Can Kogoro Mouri really handle it all by himself?

Looking at Kogoro Mouri with hesitation, Jonah, after learning Conan Edogawa's true identity, also knew that Kogoro Mouri was a somewhat carefree and clumsy detective. Although he was quite reliable at crucial moments, most of the time he was able to make correct deductions thanks to Conan Edogawa's secret efforts.

But now that Conan Edogawa has become Shinichi Kudo, he can't offer any help. Should we ask Ai Haibara to step in and help?

Turning his gaze to Ai Haibara, who was wearing a mask and standing to the side with a bored look in her eyes, Jonah reached out and gently poked Ai Haibara's arm.

"Okay, I'll go help."

Seeing the meaning in Jonah's eyes, Ai Haibara sighed helplessly and started walking, preparing to imitate Conan Edogawa's usual manner, and help Kogoro Mouri and the police who arrived at the scene look for clues.

But the appearance of one person interrupted Ai Haibara's actions. Looking at Heiji Hattori, who had applied foundation to his face to make his complexion white and pretended to be Shinichi Kudo, but was immediately seen through by Ran Mouri, Ai Haibara and Jonah were both at a loss.

What is he doing here?

"It seems our great detective said something to Hattori Heiji, which led him to come up with this ridiculous way of helping."

Ai Haibara's mind worked faster, and she quickly figured out Heiji Hattori's reason for acting, and couldn't help but chuckle.

But Ai Haibara's smile quickly faded. Heiji Hattori, unaware that Ai Haibara was impersonating Conan Edogawa, still mistook "Conan Edogawa" for Shinichi Kudo, and kept hovering around Ai Haibara, enthusiastically discussing the details of the case, much to Ai Haibara's annoyance, yet she couldn't show it.

Upon seeing the appearance of Heiji Hattori, a true detective, Jonah knew that he didn't need to worry about the case. So, as Ai Haibara had asked, he went to keep an eye on Shinichi Kudo, who was prone to getting carried away.

Unfortunately, Jonah overlooked how cute he was when he had a serious face. Before he could follow Shinichi Kudo, who was dressed in a theatrical costume, for long, he was surrounded by a group of girls who knew Ran Mouri.

Looking blankly at the group of girls around him who were smiling at him, giving him snacks, trying to touch his hair, and hugging him, Jonah considered the possibility that if he pulled out a dagger here and threatened them to move aside, he would be taught a lesson by Ran Mouri and Kogoro Mouri. He lowered his hand in frustration.

Jonah is quick to act against anyone who seems to harbor malice, regardless of who they are. However, the group of girls around him doesn't seem to make Jonah nervous at all, which leaves him unsure of what to do.

Jonah managed to escape from the group of girls, but by the time he ran out to look for Shinichi Kudo, he had already disappeared.

Turning back in confusion, Jonah had just entered the auditorium when he saw Shinichi Kudo standing in the center of the room, removing his acting helmet in front of everyone and revealing his true face.

Startled for a moment, Jonah immediately looked at Ai Haibara, who was disguised as Conan Edogawa, and confirmed that he had seen the look of disdain and speechlessness in her eyes. However, this speechlessness quickly turned into a faint sense of smugness when she saw Jonah appear at the door.

Now it was Jonah's turn to suffer.

Because when Ai Haibara expressed concern about Shinichi Kudo's self-control, Jonah spoke up for Conan Edogawa, and as a result, Ai Haibara dragged him into a bet.

Jonah decides to believe Conan Edogawa's words that even after taking the antidote, he will only see Ran Mouri and won't do anything flashy, while Ai Haibara objects.

The wager is that Jonah must increase his vegetable intake every day for the next month, as requested by Ai Haibara, and is not allowed to eat more than two pieces of cake each day.

Jonah was not a picky eater, but he did not like vegetables.

Jonah glanced coldly at Shinichi Kudo, who was confidently deducing the case under everyone's watchful eyes, and then looked away.

Upset.

Jonah casually glanced around, and when his gaze swept towards the backstage area, he narrowed his eyes.

At the backstage entrance, Sonoko Suzuki stood there looking at Shinichi Kudo with disdain as he pretended to start reasoning, while Tomoaki Shinide (Vermouth), standing behind Sonoko, looked at Shinichi with a rather peculiar expression.

Jonah didn't quite understand the complex emotions conveyed in those eyes, but that didn't stop him from being wary of this strange man he had disliked from the first moment he met him, especially since Shinichi Kudo's reappearance was a situation that Ai Haibara had described as extremely risky.

Jonah quietly made his way backstage, ignoring Shinichi Kudo who had collapsed after completing his deduction, and instead followed Vermouth as she turned and left.

Unfortunately, Jonah stopped just around the corner of the stairs.

"Little Jonah, are you lost?"

Jonah looked at Vermouth, who was standing at the corner of the stairs, smiling at him, and nodded slightly: "I'm looking for the restroom."

"You don't need to go upstairs to find the restroom. Just walk up these stairs, and you'll see it quickly. Do you need me to take you there?"

"No need, thank you."

"You're welcome, that's very polite."

Jonah watched Vermouth's departing figure silently, but did not chase after her. Instead, he turned and ran towards the infirmary.

They soon arrived at the infirmary, where the situation was different from what Jonah had imagined.

When Jonah saw Shinichi Kudo collapse in pain, he thought he was about to uncontrollably shrink back to his original size. However, with Ai Haibara watching over him, Jonah felt that nothing unexpected would happen.

Now, seeing Shinichi Kudo sitting up from the bed in the infirmary with a bewildered look on his face, Jonah paused, then looked at Ai Haibara standing at the door.

"It seems the antidote I made is more stable than expected."

Having confirmed it was a false alarm, Ai Haibara sighed softly and turned to Jonah beside her.

"I'm going to sleep at the detective agency tonight, Jonah, remember to cover for me and don't get caught, okay?"

"Okay, I'll change your sheets for you, Haibara."

"Thank you so much."
