Chapter 31

Excessive Actions Permitted

The car was parked by the roadside, and Kogoro Mouri helped carry the luggage. Looking at the suspension bridge in front of him, his expression was somewhat unpleasant.

Kogoro Mouri has a fear of heights, but fortunately, the suspension bridge is not too high above the river below, making it barely bearable for him.

Kogoro Mouri accepted it, but Jonah did not.

Jonah reached out and tugged at the suspension bridge, only to find it was just another simple rope and wooden bridge. His expression immediately turned serious.

A wooden suspension bridge, a valley, a villa—these conditions combined to put Jonah into a state of readiness for battle.

"Strange, what's that weird smell?"

Just then, Kogoro Mouri, who was walking in front, suddenly stopped, shook his head from side to side, and sniffed around, but found nothing unusual. However, this behavior attracted Jonah's attention.

Jonah took off his mask and sniffed around, but his stuffy nose from a cold prevented him from working, leaving him empty-handed.

Soon the group arrived at the villa. After successfully dropping off Sonoko Suzuki and Ran Mouri, Kogoro Mouri prepared to take Conan Edogawa and Jonah back first.

"I want to stay."

With a simple sentence, Jonah stood still next to Ran Mouri. Seeing this, Kogoro Mouri was taken aback for a moment, but he also expressed his agreement.

Kogoro Mouri also knew that although Jonah was usually quick, once he made up his mind about something, it was very difficult for anyone to change his attitude.

Conan Edogawa, who also wanted to stay, wasn't so lucky. He was punched on the head by Kogoro Mouri, picked up, and left.

Jonah wasn't interested in the introductions inside the house. Although nothing had happened yet, Jonah already considered everyone except Sonoko Suzuki and Ran Mouri as a hidden enemy.

While everyone began to divide the tasks for dinner and lodging, Jonah, being a child, was fortunate enough not to be assigned anything.

Using the excuse of wanting to go out and play in the snow, Ran Mouri was a little worried that Jonah's cold would get worse, but Jonah had always been in good health and rarely showed interest in playing anything. So Ran Mouri thought about it and agreed, but told Jonah to return to the house as soon as possible.

Having received permission, Jonah ran out of the villa with his bag on his back. After making sure no one was following him, he quickly ran to the suspension bridge.

Jonah took out the spare retractable belt that Professor Agasa had prepared for him from his backpack, stretched it to its longest position, tied one end to the plank of the suspension bridge, and then went around to the side, using the bushes for cover, and tied the other end to the tree trunk.

In this way, even if someone cuts down the suspension bridge, it can be pulled up later using a retractable belt after it falls a certain distance. According to Jonah's speculation, people who do such bad things usually choose to act under the cover of darkness, so that the other party will not notice their tampering unless they observe carefully.

Having completed the preparations to prevent damage to the suspension bridge, Jonah returned to the villa, carefully observing everyone and paying attention to the positions of Sonoko Suzuki and Ran Mouri. Fortunately, he did not notice anything unusual until dinner time that evening.

However, just as Jonah was wondering if he had misunderstood and that not every time he went out to play he would encounter danger, Ran Mouri, who was standing by the window watching the snow, suddenly changed her expression and turned to Sonoko Suzuki.

"I think I heard someone calling me?"

"Calling you? Who would call you from deep in the mountains?" Amused, Sonoko Suzuki shook her head, thinking that Ran was hallucinating.

After smiling, Ran Mouri decided to go check the gate, and Jonah followed her.

The door was pushed open by Ran Mouri. The moment she looked out, her expression changed. She quickly ran out and picked up Conan Edogawa, who was lying on the snow in front of the door.

"Conan, Conan, how are you?"

Conan Edogawa, who was delirious due to a high fever, barely opened his eyes. After seeing Ran Mouri clearly, he said with difficulty, "Ran, run! Get out of here quickly!"

After saying that, in his last moments before losing consciousness, Conan Edogawa turned to look at Jonah, who had followed him out, and gave him a gesture of firing a gun with his right hand.

Upon seeing this gesture, Jonah's expression turned completely cold. This was the pre-arranged signal between him and Conan Edogawa. When Conan Edogawa made this gesture, it meant that something dangerous had happened around them, and Jonah could take drastic protective measures.

While Ran Mouri and Sonoko Suzuki were anxiously carrying Conan Edogawa into the villa for treatment, Jonah ran alone to the suspension bridge.

Seeing that the suspension bridge had been burned instead of cut, Jonah took a deep breath, carefully collected the half-burnt retractable belt, and ran back into the villa.

Inside the villa, everyone gathered in a room, looking at Conan Edogawa who had suddenly appeared with a mixture of worry and curiosity.

Why did this child suddenly appear here?

"Did he really want to spend the night here, so he secretly ran back?"

"No, Conan told me while he was unconscious that I should escape from here as soon as possible. I think he discovered something and wanted to come back and tell me."

She shook her head. Having lived together for a long time, Ran Mouri knew Conan Edogawa quite well. She knew that although Conan was usually very "mischievous" and liked to run around, he was always very sensible when it came to important matters.

"I brought some fever reducers, let's give them to the child."

The door opened, and Doi Takaki came in carrying drinking water and fever reducer. After handing the two items to Mouri Ran, he stood up, looked around, and asked curiously, "Hey, where's that white-haired kid?"

"Right, why haven't we seen Jonah yet?"

Upon hearing Doi Takaki's words, Suzuki Sonoko was also taken aback. She searched the room but couldn't find Jonah.

"I think I saw that kid. He ran into the storage room next to the villa, looking for something. Oh, here he is... Hey, kid, what are you doing?"

Everyone in the villa, including Huang Yi, instinctively looked towards the doorway and saw Jonah standing there. Just as he was about to ask Jonah with a smile what he was doing, he noticed that Jonah suddenly raised the gun in his hand and pointed it at him.

Without the slightest hesitation, Jonah pulled the trigger on Aragaki, and the tranquilizer dart hit Aragaki's face precisely, causing him to stagger and fall to the ground.

Jonah did not stop. He turned his gun around and fired at everyone in the room except for Sonoko Suzuki and Ran Mouri. By the time the electric gun's magazine was empty, many people had fallen haphazardly in the room.

"Jonah! What have you done?!"
