Chapter 80
Jonah: Dave is my best friend!
"A boy soldier, no wonder."
Upon hearing Jonah's self-introduction, Furuya Rei paused for a moment, then smiled with relief.
"So, little Jonathan, how did you get to Japan? And what are you doing now...?"
"Feed? That's enough. If you keep digging into it, I'll fire you."
Rei Furuya's instinctive question was interrupted by Dave, who was glaring at him angrily. He could only sigh helplessly.
"I was just asking casually."
"What a load of crap. If you really want to consider us as one of your own, then think carefully about how you're going to deal with us in the future. Anyway, we're not going to be allies with a Japanese public security officer."
Dave gave Furuya Rei a disdainful look, ate the last bite of his steak, cleared the table with Jonah's help, and then excitedly brought out several large boxes from the inner room.
"Come on, my good brother, I told you I'd get you some good stuff, now it's time to introduce them to you!"
Dave carefully placed the boxes one by one, rubbed his hands together excitedly, and opened several boxes to show Jonah.
"The 74U rifle might be good on the battlefield, but we're in a big city here, so it's not really suitable for us."
"Come see this beautiful little lady I've prepared for you! It's a new product developed by the Belgian company Herstal, a rare find that few people in the world can get their hands on—the P90 submachine gun!"
"It is 500mm long, weighs 2.54kg unloaded, has a 50-round double-stack double-feed polymer magazine, and has extremely low recoil, making it easy for any untrained woman to control."
"Its penetrating power is astonishing; it can penetrate 48 layers of Kevlar soft body armor within 150 meters..."
As Dave recounted the story with great enthusiasm, Jonah's gaze was also drawn to the submachine gun, whose design would be considered quite unique even by today's standards.
But that's not all. Dave, who is always generous and open-minded, would never only offer such a gun as a gift to his good buddy.
"We have firearms for close-range combat, but what about shooting targets at medium to long range? Let me introduce our second guest today, the VSS silenced sniper rifle, a favorite of Soviet special forces assassinations, which I have carefully considered!"
"As for pistols, the Browning MK3 is a good collectible, but for actual combat, I would recommend the Glock 19. Although it is a bit cheaper to manufacture, I believe that once you try it, Jonathan, you will definitely love this pistol."
The lengthy presentation lasted for 20 minutes before it ended. In addition to the P90, VSS and Glock 19 mentioned at the beginning, Dave also prepared many "little surprises" for Jonah.
For example, there's the M203A1 40mm grenade launcher that can be used with the 74U, a Benelli M3T Super 90 shotgun that's invincible in close combat, and various grenades, smoke grenades, tear gas grenades, and flashbangs. Jonah's eyes lit up more and more as he looked at them.
Dave and Jonah were both happy, but Rei Furuya was extremely upset.
"Hey, Dave, are you serious? You're actually going to give all this stuff to little Jonathan? And what connections did you use to get this stuff in here?!"
Unable to believe his eyes, Rei Furuya stood beside the coffee table, looking at the numerous firearms on display, and suddenly felt an overwhelming urge to capture Dave.
"Never mind that. I got this in here because of my own ability. Do you have a problem with that? If you do, call the police!"
"...Tsk."
Forcing himself not to punch Dave for his arrogant expression, Rei Furuya watched Jonah begin to familiarize himself with the weapon. After a moment of silence, he spoke in an almost pleading tone.
"Um, little Jonathan, you wouldn't use these things on someone outside that organization, would you?"
"I'm satisfied with my current life, and I won't ruin it."
Looking up at Rei Furuya, Jonah saw the same sorrow in the man's eyes as he did in Conan Edogawa. After thinking for a moment, he decided to offer an explanation.
"I need to protect the people around me, so I need weapons."
"To protect the people around you?"
The childish voice spoke with unwavering resolve. At that moment, although Jonah's expression was not visible, the determination and resolve in his eyes moved Rei Furuya.
Watching Jonah and Dave happily begin their conversation, Rei Furuya suddenly felt like he had no place in this lively safe house.
"Mr. Amuro, may I ask you a question?"
After Jonah finished looking at all the "gifts" and was preparing to take some with him and then move them in several trips, Jonah suddenly walked up to Furuya Rei and looked up at the man who hadn't said much in the latter half of the trip.
"That depends on whether your question involves anything that needs to be kept confidential."
"Dave did it for revenge, so why are you fighting that organization, Mr. Amuro?"
"To protect the stability of this country...it seems you don't quite understand that reason."
Seeing the confusion in Jonah's eyes, Furuya Rei chuckled and shook his head. A figure flashed in his eyes as he suppressed the bitterness in his throat and spoke in a long, drawn-out tone.
"I had a very good friend who died in one of that organization's operations. Even just for him, I must destroy that organization!"
"I understand. From now on, we'll be comrades-in-arms, Mr. Amuro."
He nodded slightly. The concepts of national righteousness and family righteousness were too foreign to Jonah, who had never had a home since childhood. The reason of avenging his good friend was much more direct.
"If you encounter any danger, you can contact me and I will help you."
Holding a new cell phone that Dave had helped him get, Jonah spoke to Rei Furuya.
"...Thank you, I will."
Watching Jonah leave the safe house with his heavy backpack, Rei Furuya remained silent for a long time before finally laughing.
"I think I understand why you fell for little Jonathan in such a short time, Dave."
"Of course, I'm always very good at judging people."
With a disdainful laugh, Dave walked out of the kitchen carrying two bottles of beer, plopped down opposite Furuya Rei, tossed one of the bottles to him, and his expression turned serious.
"Now, you can tell me how that organization's assassins found me."
"Of course, I will tell you everything I know."
......
It took three days to move all the guns and ammunition Dave had given him to Professor Agasa's house.
Looking at the gun cabinet that he had filled to capacity, Jonah felt an indescribable sense of satisfaction, completely unaware of the shock and embarrassment on Professor Agasa's face.
Looking at those guns whose names he didn't even know, but which looked incredibly powerful, and then at Jonah's happy face, Professor Agasa inexplicably felt a sense of competition.
Although Jonah kept saying that the inventions he gave him were useful, he seemed to prefer the weapons.
That won't do!
"So, what's the difference between an electric gun that can fire tranquilizer darts at 300 m/s, and a tranquilizer dart that can withstand that initial velocity, and a real gun, Doctor?"
"Haha, I was just saying it offhand, don't be so angry, Shinichi."
"How could I not be angry?!"
