Chapter 42

Visit

"What are you thinking about? Time to go home!"

Someone patted my shoulder from behind, and the sound came from behind my ear.

"Ah, Captain Jiang," Li Hao turned around following the voice and saw Jiang Chi, who had changed into civilian clothes.

"You seemed distracted earlier, what's wrong? Still thinking about what happened in prison?"

Jiang Chi walked up to Li Hao, turned around to face Li Hao, and slowly backed away.

"Hmm... I still care a little."

"Sigh! The NPCs in dangerous areas have been acting strangely for a long time, it happens all the time," Jiang Chi said casually, his tone slightly reassuring.

"Once, I saw an Asara machine gunner and a Hafk machine gunner exchanging fire. I thought it was interesting and went closer to take a look, but then they both stopped firing at the same time and started attacking me!"

Jiang Chi spoke in an exaggerated tone, and then burst into laughter.

"Xiao Li, don't be too scared, it's okay. From now on, your brother Chen and I will definitely protect you."

"Okay!" Li Hao took a breath, his tone becoming lighter. "Thanks, Brother Chi!"

"Haha, it's nothing. We'll be doing things together often in the future, no need to be so polite! I'll be going now!"

"Okay, goodbye, Brother Chi!"

Watching Jiang Chi's departing figure, Li Hao sighed again after he had just managed to catch his breath.

He knew, of course, that Jiang Chi was trying to comfort him, but Jiang Chi didn't know that Li Hao's worries were far more complicated than he thought.

He walked out of the Longteng Club building. It was still early, so he drove his new car—a reward from the club for bringing out a main battle tank model—to the First People's Hospital.

After checking the bed number at the inpatient department, Li Hao happened to see Manager Wang from the Fengming Club coming out of the ward.

"Manager Wang."

"Hey, isn't this Li Hao?" Hearing someone call his name, Manager Wang turned around and saw Li Hao carrying a fruit basket and holding a bouquet of flowers, greeting him.

"You've become quite a celebrity lately, so you've come to see Tiger Girl again?" Li Hao looked at Manager Wang with a smile on his lips, his cheeks slightly flushed.

"Hmm, how is she now?"

"He's awake. The doctor said there's nothing seriously wrong, and he can be discharged tomorrow."

Manager Wang turned around, pressed the doorknob, opened the door, and said into the room, "Tiger Girl, Li Hao is here to see you~"

"Ah? Li Hao? Oh, okay!" A pleasant voice came from inside the room.

"Go ahead." Manager Wang stepped back to clear the doorway.

Li Hao nodded, not daring to look at Manager Wang who was smiling like an aunt, and walked into the private ward with his head down.

I happened to see Tiger Girl sitting on the hospital bed, tucking the hair from her sideburns behind her ears.

"Um... I came to see you."

"Ah! Thank you!"

Li Hao placed the fruit basket and flowers on the bedside table, and then an awkward silence fell over the ward.

"I'll be going now, you two young people can chat." Manager Wang gently closed the ward door, and his footsteps gradually faded away.

Tiger Girl looked at Li Hao, who was standing at the foot of the bed, not knowing where to put his hands, and burst out laughing.

"No need to be so polite, sit down and let's talk."

With the absence of Supervisor Wang, who had been spying on him from behind, Li Hao felt a little more at ease and sat down on a chair at the foot of the bed.

"How are you? Feeling better?"

"Yes, I'm fine now. I was planning to be discharged today, but Supervisor Wang asked me to stay one more night for observation."

Tiger Girl rubbed her nose. "You came to see me a few days ago?"

"Yeah, you weren't awake yet at that time, I just took a quick look and went back."

"I'm sorry to have worried you." After saying this, Tiger Girl's cheeks, which had finally cooled down, started to heat up again.

Seeing that the atmosphere in the ward was about to become awkward again, Li Hao quickly asked, "What happened to you? Why did you suddenly faint?"

Getting back to the point, Tiger Girl's expression turned slightly serious. "I saw the warden."

Li Hao didn't interrupt, but listened quietly.

"At the delayed evacuation point, as we were preparing to leave, I saw the warden quietly watching us through the prison's glass window, his hands behind his back."

"I remembered your advice from the night before and avoided the warden the whole time during that operation, so I didn't go into the core area."

"And then, during the evacuation, we found him right there, watching us!"

"Others might not understand even if they explained, Li Hao, I think you should understand me!"

Tiger Girl shivered, leaned forward, and clenched her fists.

"That feeling was terrifying. I felt suffocated and then... I passed out. I didn't expect to sleep for so long."

Li Hao got up from the chair, took a step closer, sat down at the foot of the bed, and placed his hand on Tiger Girl's tightly clenched hand. It was so cold.

"I understand, of course I understand. Otherwise, I wouldn't have reminded you not to go see the warden."

Feeling the warmth from her hand, Tiger Girl didn't pull it away. "I'm fine. Oh, I forgot, you just finished your mission today. How are you?"

"We're fine here, it's just that it was during the evacuation," Li Hao paused, then continued, "You've only just recovered, I don't know if I should tell you..."

Tiger Girl didn't interrupt, but quietly watched Li Hao, waiting for him to continue.

"Yes, when we were evacuating, the warden's personal guard chased the Hibiscus Squad all the way from the core area to the delayed evacuation point."

"The most crucial thing is that Chen Xiaoxun from our team fired with a sniper rifle, but both shots were blocked by the shield soldiers of the Royal Guard."

"Blocked a sniper bullet?" Tiger Girl asked in surprise.

"Yes, and it was entirely due to the shieldbearer's reaction."

"Tiger Sister, I suspect this warden and his personal guard are more troublesome than I thought! Moreover, with members of both the Bald Eagle and Samurai Sword clubs going missing again, I feel they should be getting restless."

"You mean they might use that?"

Li Hao nodded. "Their club has been researching the Mandel supercomputing unit they developed for over a month. It's said to significantly enhance combat capabilities, so they might use it next time."

Tiger Girl nodded, then asked curiously, "How did you know that?"

"Uh, I have a friend who did the analysis." Tiger Girl didn't press further.

"You get some rest first. I'm leaving. We haven't heard which clubs will be playing next yet. If you're involved, be careful of the warden and the Bald Eagles."

"good!"

After leaving the hospital, Li Hao didn't go home. Instead, he drove in the opposite direction to meet the friend he had mentioned and make preparations in advance.

As he walked, the tall buildings gradually decreased, but the scenery became more and more familiar to him.

He drove from the bustling city center to the suburbs, the area where he had lived since childhood. He never expected to see his advertising sign even in such a remote place.

The car was parked on the side of the road by a gray-blue building with all sorts of messy signs hanging at the entrance. Li Hao glanced at them and his eyes fell on the sign he recognized, which reassured him.

She's still here.

The dimly lit lobby didn't bother him at all; he found the elevator in a corner and pressed the button for the seventh floor.

"bite"

When the elevator arrived at its destination and the doors opened, he could see his destination.

The huge logo reads "78 Club".
