Chapter 50
The Roar of the Bullets
"Captain, there's gunfire over there!" Vasily, who was crouching at the door on guard, shouted to the two men in the laundry room, his gun pointed outwards.
Igor pulled himself out of the huge washing machine and looked back toward the door.
Inside the laundry room, a huge drum washing machine hummed softly, and the steam mixed with the smell of cheap laundry detergent.
"It sounded like gunshots. We just saw people from the Dragon Club heading in that direction, didn't we?" Igor wiped his face, then rubbed the laundry detergent or something similar onto his sleeve.
"They must have clashed with NPCs, right? That's quite a commotion!"
Vasily nodded silently, turned around to continue his vigilance, but then thought it made some sense.
"Wasn't that the direction they went towards the loading and unloading area? There are prison guards there too?"
"Ugh! Didn't they say at the previous meeting that the warden would make all sorts of tactical adjustments? Maybe this time he'll send the guards to ambush them over there!"
Alexei listened intently, and the gunshots were indeed coming from the loading and unloading area.
Even from some distance, the intensity of the gunfire could still be heard.
But the gunshot was more muffled, more penetrating, and faster than the gunshots of prison guards he remembered!
boom!
Interspersed throughout were single-shot explosions with huge echoes!
Alexei frowned. "Large-caliber weapons?"
Another heavy, single shot rang out!
This was not the kind of reaction one would expect when encountering prison guards; they were not equipped with that kind of firepower.
A sense of unease crossed his mind, but judging from the sound, it was indeed quite close, so worrying so early might be an overreaction.
"Stay vigilant," Alexei said again. "Vasily, continue to keep watch and pay attention to any movement in the direction of the gunfire. Igor, finish the search quickly! We can't stay here any longer."
"It can't be that bad, can it? Even if the people from the loading and unloading area came right over, it would take them ages!" Igor muttered under his breath, but he still quickened his pace. There were plenty of supplies here, and each washing machine contained a little surprise. He wanted to rummage through them carefully!
The gunfire stopped.
The sudden silence was more unsettling than the previous gunshots; the laundry room was once again filled only with the roar of the washing machines and the intermittent dripping of water.
"Is it over?" Igor unconsciously lowered his voice.
Before he could get a reply from his teammates, hurried footsteps sounded from outside the room, getting closer and closer.
"Someone's coming!" Vasily lowered his body.
"Back up! Vasily, you have no cover there, you can't hold out! Back up and block the entrance!"
Vasily immediately complied and was retreating when he heard footsteps approaching.
Then, with a "whoosh," a cylindrical object was thrown to the ground near the doorway, and thick gray smoke instantly billowed out, blocking the view from the doorway.
"Smoke grenade!"
Then a figure suddenly burst out from the gray and white.
The man was wearing a tattered Dragon Soar Squad uniform, covered in blood, with a large tear in his bulletproof vest. His left hand hung limply, dripping blood, while his right hand pressed against his left shoulder.
"People from the Dragon Club?" Alexei looked at the man who rushed out of the smoke, covered in wounds and unarmed, and did not immediately give the order to fire.
Chen Xiaoxun's face was covered in blood and sweat, and his eyes were wide open in terror.
He spotted the three members of Katyusha's team immediately, froze for a moment, then roared at the top of his lungs, "Bald Eagle! Something's wrong with those guys! Run!!"
Facing three lines of gunfire aimed at him, he didn't stop for a moment and continued running forward.
"Don't come any closer! If you do, we'll shoot!" Alexei wanted to figure out what he was saying and get more information.
But before he could finish speaking...
"Bang--!!!"
A loud bang.
The sudden, loud noise startled the group.
It instantly drowned out all other noises, causing a sharp pain in people's eardrums.
The bullet pierced through the smoke outside the door, creating a vortex in the smoke at the entrance, and then traced a straight trajectory in the air.
Chen Xiaoxun's head was like a watermelon hit by a heavy hammer; his body lurched forward uncontrollably, and half of his head disappeared.
Thick, reddish-white liquid and bone fragments splattered in a fan shape on the damp floor of the laundry room, spreading out instantly.
The headless corpse was propelled forward by the immense kinetic energy, rolled twice, its muscles twitched a few times, and then remained still.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye. From the moment Chen Xiaoxun emerged from the smoke to his death, less than a few seconds passed.
Katyusha and the other two girls' pupils contracted sharply.
"Enemy attack!! From the doorway!!" Vasily's roar shattered.
His body reacted faster than his mind; he lunged towards the nearest washing machine as cover. Alexei and Igor reacted almost simultaneously, immediately taking cover.
But this conveniently frees up the gun position at the entrance of the straight rack!
Three figures emerged side by side from the smoke.
They walked slowly with unusually synchronized steps, their footsteps making a heavy "pattering" sound on the damp cement floor of the laundry room.
His entire body was covered in some kind of dark gray-black heavy armor and a full-coverage helmet, with dark protective goggles that reflected the green light of the emergency exit in the corner of the laundry room.
The two men on either side simultaneously raised their M14s, which were equipped with long barrels, large drum magazines, and fully modified attachments.
The man in the middle is holding the AWM sniper rifle that caused the explosion inside the prison.
Katyusha and her two companions pressed their backs tightly against their respective cover, preparing to find an opportunity to engage in another firefight.
What the three of them didn't know was that they had already lost the battle the moment they gave up their straight-frame position.
Alexei turned his head and looked at Igor behind the washing machine, which was not far from him.
After exchanging glances, the two nodded silently at the same time.
Having been on the same team for a long time, their tacit understanding from multiple collaborations allowed them to immediately grasp each other's tactics. At the same time, they moved to the side to pull out cover, preparing to focus fire and eliminate the enemy first.
pity……
"Bang--!!!"
The moment before Igor even peeked out, the AWM fired a bullet that struck Igor's exposed head.
Alexei's AK had barely fired a few bullets before he was forced back into cover.
Beside him, Igor, who was crouching behind the washing machine with only half of his head showing, suddenly had a hole blown open in the front of his helmet, and a cloud of red and white mixture sprayed out from the back of his head.
Without uttering a sound, he fell backward right in front of Alexei.
"Igor!" Vasily's eyes were bloodshot. He found a gap in the bunker and aimed through it at the enemy's goggles, which he believed was a theoretically possible weakness.
However, the three Bald Eagles team members did not dodge at all.
"Ding ding ding!!" A few crisp sounds.
The goggles were hit by several bullets, but they did nothing to protect them.
The man slowly turned his head, his gaze piercing through the gaps in the bullets to see Vasily behind the cover.
