Chapter 57
The Gluttonous Wanderer
A spherical black mist trembled slowly in the center of the plaza; the portal to the Tidal Prison was about to open.
There were more than a dozen people standing in the square, with a blond man in a suit standing in front of the portal.
The Bald Eagles team consisted of John, Cole, and Miles, standing in a row, motionless.
A few distance away stood nine other people, dressed in all sorts of different equipment. Some of their armor showed obvious signs of repair, and their firearms were mostly the most basic submachine guns, with the most basic accessories.
Among them was a woman with long silver hair, dressed in a black combat uniform, wielding a fully modified M4A1, which made her stand out from the others.
Their faces showed a mixture of excitement and tension, their eyes occasionally glancing at the three fully armed bald eagles.
"Gentlemen," the blond man, Anderson, began.
The scattered crowd quieted down.
"When you first enter the prison map, be sure to stick with our little bald eagle and don't get separated. Maintain formation, and pay special attention to corners and behind cover in various areas. Don't be greedy for food, and watch out for NPC ambushes."
An operator in faded camouflage uniform raised his hand: "Um... how do we divide the supplies we found?"
"Whoever finds it keeps it; we don't take a cut, but the condition is that it's brought out alive."
"If you disobey orders and die, don't blame anyone else. Most importantly, don't forget to save a bullet for yourself. If you get lost, I won't be responsible," Anderson said with a grin.
"Pay special attention, do not enter the core area without permission. You should have all seen the Warden in the live stream. With your equipment, I don't think you can win against him alone."
A fat man carrying a huge backpack licked his lips and whispered to his companion, "Not many people have searched the core area yet. Who knows how rich the loot is there! If we can find even one red item, we'll be rich!"
The companion glanced at the bald eagles in front of him, and seeing that their attention wasn't on them, turned around and glared at the fat man, signaling him to shut up.
The black mist gradually dissipated, and the portal was about to open.
"Now, check your equipment and prepare to enter."
The nine men frantically pulled the bolts, checked the magazines, and tightened their backpack straps. The three members of the Bald Eagle Squad had already turned around to face the portal.
"Stay close, let's go!"
The nine people followed closely behind the three, stepping into the transparent, undulating sphere before disappearing.
These people had only seen it on live stream; actually entering the prison and seeing the scene inside was still terrifying.
The group began to move, with the three members of the Bald Eagles leading the way in a triangular formation.
The nine people behind followed loosely, initially keeping up closely, but soon some of them were drawn to the supply points along the way.
"Look! Over there!" an operator whispered, pointing to a corner of a room.
Several small purple and gold items spawned in the open air there.
The two of them immediately crawled inside and quickly stuffed their belongings into their backpacks.
The Bald Eagles stopped, looked at them for a few seconds, said nothing, and continued on their way.
The deeper you go, the more "good stuff" you'll find scattered around.
Excitement began to spread through the ranks.
The lone wolves in the team began whispering, rummaging through and fighting over the supply points, and they always managed to snatch up items of purple quality or higher.
The atmosphere in the group gradually became more lively, laughter increased, and the formation began to stretch out longer and longer.
Some people separated from the main group in order to search for a cabinet in the distance.
The fat man and his companion were at the very back. They found a corridor.
"Want to go take a look?" the fat man asked, panting, his eyes gleaming.
"They said we can't wander around..."
"Just one shot! I've seen the scene over there in the livestream; it's definitely easier to sell items there!"
"Alright, but we can't go too far!"
The fat man and his companion then left the group and headed deeper into the prison.
"Haha, this is a fuel cell! It's made by Daikin! One costs three or four hundred thousand!"
When others see someone looting high-value supplies, they become envious and start looting resource points even more recklessly.
Then some people left the group to look for supply points elsewhere.
The quiet prison and the lure of money made these people completely forget the tension and fear they felt when they first entered this dangerous area.
The three members of the Bald Eagle Squad led this group of amateur soldiers in circles around the prison.
Their ability to see through objects allows them to mark the locations of all non-friendly units on the map.
These individuals who paid protection money should, in theory, be considered part of the same group as them.
However, the brain-computer interface system only marked the three bald eagles with brain-computer interfaces as teammates, while all the other prison guards and civilians were enemies.
This presents a problem, making it difficult for them to distinguish between prison guards and agents who have gone far away.
However, the Bald Eagle Society leadership stipulated that the objective of this operation was to avoid engaging in combat with the warden as much as possible.
All we need to do is take this group of casual diners and small club members on a tour to increase our influence.
but……
John's gaze locked onto several approaching signal sources.
"Are the warden and his men coming this way?"
John communicated with his two teammates via brain-computer interface.
"What should we do?" Cole asked.
"We have to engage them; these grunts can't escape," Miles analyzed. "If they all die, we won't be able to increase our influence, and the mission will still fail."
"Then we must not only confront the warden, but also demonstrate our dominance in the prison," Cole nodded.
"Don't be afraid of them coming. They're just defeated opponents. Find a more open area and don't give them a chance to get close. Prepare to engage them!" John made the decision immediately.
Then John turned to the remaining people around him and shouted, "Everyone, stop searching and move towards us."
The operators, who were still rummaging through things, paused for a moment, then quickly picked up what they were holding and stuffed it into their backpacks.
He ran towards the direction of the Bald Eagle Squad, his face showing some reluctance. After a quick headcount, he found that four people were missing.
"Two people said they were going down there to take a look..." an operator said timidly.
"There are two more, they seem to have gone that way..." The other one pointed to the west.
The three members of the Bald Eagle Squad stood still. Since they had deliberately broken away from the group to seek their own deaths, they couldn't blame the Bald Eagle Association for failing to protect them. So they decided to leave them alone.
"Spread out here and find cover for defense. The warden and his personal guard are coming. We need to engage them here."
The remaining five were stunned. That terrifying warden had actually come after them? Wasn't he supposed to be in the core area?
Seeing that these newbies were still standing there dumbfounded, John immediately raised his voice.
"Immediately! Spread out and maintain your defenses! Your objective is to eliminate the regular prison guards! And then survive!"
Soon, a large number of footsteps approached from afar.
