Chapter 74
Killing the Warden
The black smoke dissipated.
The first and second teams also converged towards the center.
They saw a member of Squad 3 lying on the ground with a headshot.
He was so shocked that he couldn't speak.
On the vast open ground, with only a few scattered bunkers, they were surrounded by 12 fully armed players.
He actually managed to survive an AWM bullet, and while escaping, he also managed to headshot and kill a Bald Eagle operator.
It's possible that the third squad was killed instantly because they were advancing with Commander John's squad on the front lines and they were slightly off cover when they moved forward.
I couldn't help but break out in a cold sweat.
"He was shot," John said, pointing to a pool of blood on the ground.
His goggles scanned the marks on the ground.
A trail of blood dripped from the direction of his finger.
"The AWM hit him directly in the back. He's badly injured now. Let's catch up with him," John analyzed.
He then used his X-ray vision to scan again and discovered that the warden was fleeing toward the elevator shaft platform.
Which direction?
In his field of vision, there were three red dots at the highest point above the elevator shaft platform.
It was those three snipers.
John had a deep impression of him. During the Explorers mission, he was an agent of their Bald Eagle Society who was killed by a sniper above the elevator shaft while eating a safe in the water at the bottom of the shaft.
The warden was actually heading in that direction, clearly intending to use snipers to strike them from a high vantage point.
Unfortunately, his wishful thinking was going to fall through. John thought to himself.
"Chase it, towards the elevator shaft." He immediately gave the order.
This time, however, the other three teams did not act immediately; they all followed behind.
John's team didn't care and immediately followed the trail of blood.
Han Che had been hit in the abdomen by an M14, but the injury wasn't serious. However, this AWM bullet that came from his back significantly affected his mobility.
"Damn, this weapon is really awesome." Han Che headed to the elevator shaft platform as fast as he could, following the plan.
"I wonder how many AWM bullets they have," he muttered to himself. "Oh well, it doesn't matter, he won't need them in the end anyway."
But before they had run very far, the sound of footsteps came from behind them in the distance.
"Cough cough... They caught up pretty fast!" Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth and stuck to his white mask.
He could only grit his teeth and endure the pain to continue quickening his pace.
As he rushed to the elevator shaft platform, the footsteps behind him were already very close, only a turn away in the aisle.
Han Che immediately used the communicator to command, "Sniper, watch out for the direction I came out from on the second-floor elevator shaft platform."
"Fire! Help me hold off the enemies behind us. Don't let them get too close."
"yes!"
"yes!"
As expected, Han Che rushed to the control panel in the middle of the elevator shaft platform.
Han Che and his two companions had already led the remaining Bald Eagle squad to the doorway.
His blood dripped all the way, and John's team could easily catch up without even needing to rely on their X-ray vision.
John had just reached the door when he saw the warden limping towards the center of the elevator shaft platform. He immediately raised his gun, ready to shoot.
But in that instant, out of the corner of his eye, he saw a flash of light above his head.
boom!
A bullet, accompanied by the crisp sound of a sniper rifle, hurtled down from overhead.
Eleven men were crammed into the narrow doorway, preventing them from immediately spreading out their guns.
John's team of three used their brains to react quickly and dodge.
The unlucky ones are the ordinary operators behind them.
The bullet hit an operator squarely in the head; fortunately, they were both wearing level 5 helmets.
With a muffled thud, the man's helmet shattered instantly, and his head snapped back as he was struck, crashing to the ground.
Cole immediately returned fire with his M14, but the sniper retreated back into cover after firing one shot.
The M14's roaring bullets all struck the wall.
Han Che had achieved his goal, buying him a little bit of time to run to the back of the control pillar.
That was his only shelter on the elevator shaft platform.
"Get inside, don't crowd at the door!" John immediately reacted and gave the order.
The elevator shaft platform is shaped like a cross.
The intersection of the crosses forms a circular platform.
In the center of the circle is a mechanical cylinder about 5 meters high, which is the control panel of the elevator shaft platform.
In such terrain, the passageways are very narrow, making it difficult for eleven or twelve people to spread out immediately, and the firing line can only be in one direction.
John understood that the terrain was unfavorable for their fighting, but the disparity in numbers was simply too great; they could crush them with sheer force.
Having figured all this out, John said, "First squad, the three of you, don't need to participate in the assault. Keep an eye on the snipers high up in the elevator shaft the whole time. As soon as they show their heads, shoot them immediately."
"It doesn't matter whether we kill them or not, as long as we suppress them and don't give them a chance to show their faces and shoot from the shadows."
John's objective was clear: these snipers on higher ground were hidden behind cover, making them difficult to eliminate in time from below.
The immediate priority is to kill the warden; those snipers will have plenty of opportunities to eliminate them.
"Squad 2, advance from the left with me; Squad 3, flank from the right, surround the warden, and kill him immediately."
"Ah, it's us again?" the leader of Squad 3 muttered under his breath, then shut up after being startled by a look from John.
His goggles still flashed with the red dot indicating a live broadcast; he dared not directly contradict John now, as that would be going against the company's board of directors.
I had no choice but to grit my teeth and reluctantly agree.
"superior!"
The Bald Eagle Squad split into two groups as planned, attacking the pillar from both the left and right sides simultaneously.
Han Che leaned against the pillar as he heard footsteps approaching.
He silently reached into the magazine and pulled out the last smoke grenade.
"It's that trick again, watch out!" John shouted.
Unfortunately, this time the warden had no cover in front of him except for this pillar.
With the perspective effect, the warden's location could be seen precisely. The red dot immediately got up and ran in the direction away from him.
John immediately sensed something was wrong and quickened his pace, but it was too late.
Clang clang clang, Ash-12, heavy gunshots rang out, killing another member of Squad 3.
John, Cole, and Miles simultaneously pulled the trigger from the smoke, aimed at the warden's position, and fired preemptively before jumping out.
Instantly, countless bloody holes appeared on the warden's back, and he crashed to the ground due to the impact.
He and the operator from White Eagle Squad 3 who had just been killed fell one after the other into a large pool of blood.
The leader of Squad 3 was terrified, his hands and feet numb. He saw John and the other two fire their guns and the warden fall down.
His legs went weak, and he knelt down on the ground.
John immediately checked the information inside his goggles; the signal had disappeared.
The three men then pointed their guns at the warden's body and slowly moved forward.
He fired two more shots into the back of his head before announcing in the voice chat, "Prison map boss, the Warden, has been eliminated. Mission complete."
