Chapter 53

Death

"Hafk only has soldiers who die in battle, not cowards who kneel and live on!"

Han Che roared, veins bulging on his forehead, and burst out from behind Shi Ding, instantly covering the last short distance and crashing directly between Cole and Miles!

The distance was too close, and the M14s in their hands were too long. The sudden close encounter left them no time to adjust their guns.

Han Che raised his Ash-12 high and slammed the butt of the rifle into Cole's head!

The immense impact slammed Cole to the ground, the cushioning inside his helmet making a muffled thud, and the eyepiece display flickering for a moment.

Miles immediately seized the opportunity to turn his gun around, but Geheros didn't give him a chance to aim.

After knocking Cole down, he didn't even bother to aim properly, and immediately pulled the trigger on Miles! At such close range, he wasn't afraid of missing him.

boom! boom! boom!

Three large-caliber bullets struck Miles' armor at extremely close range!

The bullet failed to penetrate the armor, but the impact caused Miles' abdomen to arch, he gagged, and his movements ceased.

The armor was nearing collapse, and a red warning light flashed on the visor.

Cole rolled on the ground trying to get up, but Han Che didn't even look at him and kicked him hard in the helmet!

The force of the kick was so great that Cole's head slammed heavily into the ground, and the eyepiece display screen went black for a moment.

Miles's brain-computer interface kept him conscious and able to fight, and he tried to raise his gun.

Han Che attacks with both hands!

This time, the gun was aimed directly at Miles' helmet and fired repeatedly!

boom! boom! boom!

All three bullets struck the same area on the front of the helmet! Miles' head jerked back, his movement visibly stiff.

Gherros stepped forward, grabbed Miles by the collar with his left hand, and used his right hand to smash Miles' teeth through the hole in his mouth with the scorching hot barrel of the Ash-12 and stuff it into his open mouth.

"Moths!"

Pull the trigger.

Gunshots echoed down the corridor. A cloud of blood spurted from the back of Miles' head, and his body went limp.

Cole's visor partially recovered, and he saw the notification that his teammate had been killed.

In the brain-computer interface, Miles' signal went out.

He struggled to get up, but Geheros had already turned around, and the Ash-12 was aimed at his helmet.

boom! boom! boom!

The bullet shattered Cole's helmet, and the immense impact left him dizzy and his cervical spine nearly broken.

Click.

The sound of the firing pin striking the air.

The magazine is empty.

Without hesitation, Geheros threw away the Ash-12, drew his 93R pistol from his waist with his right hand, and at the same time raised his left foot and stomped hard on Cole's cracked helmet with the heel of his combat boot!

Thump! The kick widened the crack in the helmet. Cole tried to grab Geheros's leg, but the concussion slowed his movements.

Gherlos's 93R was already aimed at the crack in the helmet.

"Bang--!!!"

A tremendous explosion rang out, and the sound of the AWM gunshots was deafening in the enclosed space.

The .338 Lapua Magnum bullet whizzed through the air from inside the gatehouse and struck Geheros directly in the back.

The immense impact caused Gherros to fall forward, and the 93R bullet went astray, grazing Cole's helmet before hitting the ground.

Gherros fell to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood that stained the lower half of his white mask.

John could clearly see through his eyepiece that the warden's vital signs, though sharply reduced, were still present.

Geheros shakily propped himself up on his knees and turned to look at the control room.

The white surface of the mask was stained red with blood, and there was a large hole in the back of the black trench coat, through which the broken panels could be seen.

Fresh blood gushed out from the hole, dripping onto the ground along with the clothes.

Han Che coughed up blood from the corner of his mouth, and tears of blood streamed down his face. The intense pain and impact blurred his vision, and he staggered a few steps before regaining his balance.

"Face...Gherros's judgment!"

They charged straight towards the control room!

Seeing the crimson eyes beneath Gherros' mask, John finally realized, "He took a hit from an AWM and he's still alive?!"

Seeing the warden charging forward so fiercely, he suddenly remembered to immediately pull the bolt, eject the spent cartridge, and chamber a round—the AWM is a bolt-action rifle, requiring manual bolt-action to chamber a round between each shot.

This gap is enough for the warden to rush across this short distance!

Gherros' speed was beyond what one would expect from someone so seriously injured!

As he charged, he raised his 93R and fired at the door of the gatehouse! The bullets hit the door frame, sending debris flying, and John was forced to duck back behind the wall.

Quick, load the ammunition!

Hurry up!

Even with his brain-computer interface working at full power to suppress fear and keep his mind calm, the trembling caused by his body's instincts and muscles was something he couldn't suppress no matter what.

John finished loading the gun and leaned forward again—

Gherros has already pounced on you!

The two men fired their guns almost simultaneously.

The AWM fired almost directly into Geheros's chest, the bullet piercing through his body and exiting from his back, bringing with it a large mass of flesh and shattered internal organs.

However, all three bullets from the 93R struck John's right eye.

The armor in front of me had a huge gash, the goggles were shattered, and the information in the red frame could no longer be seen.

John could feel the heat of the bullet seeping through the last tattered helmet and onto his eyelids.

Gheros pounced on him, and the weight of the two of them crashed into the gatehouse and fell to the ground.

John lay on the ground, pinned down by Geherus's corpse, panting heavily. A few seconds later, he realized that he had finally won.

He struggled to push Geheros aside and stood up shakily.

The effects of the various injections were fading, and the trembling sensation brought on by adrenaline began to spread throughout my body.

After the painkiller wore off, my whole body ached.

The goggles were shattered, rendering them ineffective for information processing. The brain-computer interface also became unstable due to the severe impact on all of them.

John got up and went outside. Cole was still lying on the ground struggling. The warden's heavy blow had broken his cervical spine, rendering him unable to move normally.

Miles' body lay not far away, next to the gatehouse entrance, his helmet shattered, his head smashed, and a pool of blood beneath him.

The bodies of Shi Ding and Shi Lei were not far away.

"Can it still move?" John asked.

"I...I can't stand up! My head feels like it's going to explode! Ugh...ugh..." Cole said, dry heaving on the ground.

"There's no time to loot!" John glanced at the evacuation time. "We have to retrieve Miles's equipment, or the company will kill us!"

Cole lay flat on the ground, not trying to be brave; he knew his own condition.

John took off Miles' weapons, armor, and broken helmet, and threw them into Cole's arms.

Then he grabbed him by the back of the collar and dragged him toward the prison evacuation point.

Tidal Prison has been closed.

[Congratulations, host, you have achieved the milestone of your first death in battle.]
