Chapter 79
The Last Sniper
"Healing, getting back into position..." John said weakly, leaning against the wall as he forced himself to sit up.
The machine gunners' armor was almost completely destroyed in this battle.
Even his strength was mostly depleted.
It relies entirely on the super mobility provided by the exoskeleton and the aiming assistance provided by the brain-computer interface.
The three of them immediately began to stop the bleeding from their wounds and apply first-aid kits.
With the protection of a level 6 helmet and level 6 armor, the gunshot wounds on his body were not serious.
Most of the injuries were grazes caused by bullets, as well as blunt force injuries caused by close-range blows and impacts from machine gunners.
After simple hemostasis and fracture treatment, the remaining injections were refilled.
Even so, they could never get back to their best form.
"Time is running out," John warned, raising his voice and shouting it out, without communicating via brain-computer interface.
Clearly, this was addressed to the other three Bald Eagle agents who were hiding behind cover in the distance, standing by and watching.
The three men saw that John and his companions had regained their senses, were able to communicate, and had killed the pursuing machine gunners.
Only after confirming that the environment was safe did they slowly and leisurely emerge from behind the cover.
John tapped his goggles with his right hand; the red light on them was still flashing.
"The live stream is still running, follow instructions."
The three Bald Eagle agents had nothing to say and could only reluctantly obey John's orders.
John didn't dwell on it and immediately re-analyzed the situation on the ground.
"Time is running out. We successfully killed the warden once, but we can't guarantee we can kill him a second time in the remaining time."
"Our next priority should be the evacuation."
The three Bald Eagle agents were overjoyed to hear that John was not planning to hunt down the warden but was instead considering evacuation.
"Yes, yes, Captain John is brilliant! Evacuation is the most important thing! Evacuation is the most important thing!"
John glanced at him but ignored him.
"Should we pull the plug and go through the prison evacuation point, or go through the delayed evacuation point on the outdoor water platform?" asked the surviving captain of Bald Eagle Squad 3.
"The water-based delayed evacuation point, I suppose," another Bald Eagle team member replied. "In previous prison map operations, most of the players who successfully evacuated used the water-based delayed evacuation point."
"After all, the prison evacuation point requires shutting down the gates, and it's very close to the core area, making it easy to run into the warden."
Mentioning the warden again sent chills down everyone's spines.
"It's alright, the warden's men have been almost completely wiped out," John reassured him. "Only his personal guard remains."
John used X-ray vision to rescan, pointing his finger in the direction of the warden's office.
"They've gone over there now. Let's try to evacuate from the evacuation point in the water pool first."
"The terrain there is open, which is advantageous for us in dealing with a possible attack by the warden."
Everyone nodded in agreement; this was undoubtedly the optimal solution.
"Time is running out, let's hurry up and get going."
Then, led by John, the six men immediately took action.
The closest point to the evacuation point for the floating pool is a hole in front of you where you can jump into the water.
But it wasn't far from where the warden's personal guard was located.
So they kept their voices down and walked in a line.
After walking slowly and quietly for several minutes, the six people finally reached the front of the hole.
Compared to the dim environment inside the prison, the bright light outside illuminated the entrance to the cave in a stark white, making it difficult to see what was happening outside.
John was very cautious and activated his X-ray vision skill to scan again.
The six-man guard signal was still pointing in the direction of the warden's office.
But then he realized that they might have just overlapped without him noticing.
It turns out there was a signal located far above and outside the hole.
John remembered that in that distant direction, there was a rather high hillside.
"Why is there a signal there?" John wondered.
They suffered heavy losses after the warden unexpectedly deployed a machine gunner from a high place.
John no longer dared to subjectively guess which type of soldier based on their position.
Logically speaking, there should have been three snipers above the elevator shaft, but the warden replaced one sniper with a machine gunner.
Then there should be one less sniper.
That hillside is very likely the last sniper responsible for long-range harassment and interception.
John still mentally reviewed all the prison guard NPCs in the prison.
They killed 18 ordinary prison guards in the cell block, and there were two snipers and a machine gunner in the elevator shaft.
Now there are two shield bearers, three riflemen, a warden, and a sniper left in the Royal Guard.
Who could exert a greater influence from such a distant location and pose a greater threat to them?
After much thought, I'm afraid only snipers can fit the bill.
John thought so.
Even if the warden were in that position, his Ash-12 would definitely not be able to make a greater difference.
When he uses his AWM sniper rifle, the warden might be the one who suffers.
That makes things easier.
The sniper could not possibly threaten all six of them at the same time.
After a brief moment of thought, John gave the order.
"There's a sniper on the enemy hilltop, everyone be on guard. After we come out of the cave, he'll provide cover while I snipe him with my AWM."
Everyone breathed a sigh of relief when they heard that it was a sniper.
They then continued toward the glaring opening.
When the six people arrived at the cave entrance at the same time, they looked out at the clear sky.
The blinding sunlight made them all squint, and John stared intently at the red dot on the hilltop.
He raised his AWM and aimed it under the bright light.
Even with the bright light interfering with his aim, John only took a few extra seconds to successfully target the NPC on the hilltop.
"Hmph, it really isn't the warden." John breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing the figure.
They look like snipers.
But what kind of weapon did he take out?
Forget it, forget it.
"Bang……!!"
An AWM bullet pierced the air and struck the NPC on the hilltop squarely in the head.
In an instant, he fell from the mountain to the foot of the mountain, splashing blood on the ground.
But before he died, he used a round, black thing to face this direction.
whoosh...
A faint sound caught John's attention; it was the sound of something cutting through the air.
It wasn't the sound of a bullet cutting through the air; the speed was very slow, and it didn't feel threatening.
As he looked away from the scope, he could see with his naked eye that a black flying object in the sky was getting bigger and bigger.
"What is that?" asked a Bald Eagle agent, voicing the question on everyone's mind.
Subsequently,
Whoosh... Boom!
An RPG rocket landed on the ground between the six people.
A huge explosion erupted from the narrow opening, and a massive fireball carrying countless shrapnel burst from the ground, instantly engulfing everyone.
