Chapter 52
Breakthrough and Advance
The prison guards, who formed a circle around the guards in the corridor, were carrying bison stuffed with meat balls. When they hit Bald Eagle's Level 6 armor, they couldn't even scratch it.
Cole's M14 roared with fire as he pulled the trigger, emptying the magazine from head to toe, killing all the prison guards in the circle.
"Reload!" Cole pulled out spare ammunition from the magazine and began reloading.
"Target not moved," Miles said, staring at the red frame in his goggles.
His voice was transmitted directly to the consciousness of several people via brain-computer interface.
In the small room, Han Che leaned against the wall, his black combat trench coat covered in dust and bloodstains.
Shi Ding and Shi Lei stood on either side of the entrance, holding riot shields. The shields were covered with craters and charred marks left by incendiary bombs.
"Your Excellency Warden, they're blocking the entrance and won't let us in," Shi Lei's voice came from behind the shield, sounding somewhat muffled.
"They're waiting for us to come out on our own," Han Che said.
He then took a deep breath.
"While one of them is reloading! Shi Ding, count to three, I'll hold the line of fire, you guys provide cover!"
"clear."
"one."
Geheros leaned forward slightly and pushed off with his left foot.
"two."
At the entrance to the control room, warning boxes simultaneously appeared on the goggles of Cole and Miles, and the signals inside the room began to converge towards the door.
"three!"
Gherros suddenly lunged to the side and rushed out of the room, the muzzle of his Ash-12 already spitting fire as he moved!
Large-caliber bullets whistled towards Cole's location, while his body lurched to the right and rolled over.
But Cole and Miles reacted faster.
That wasn't a reaction; their assistive system predicted the trajectory of the movement the instant Geheros' muscles exerted force.
Miles' M14 opened fire instantly, the bullets precisely blocking all of Geheros's movement routes.
The whistling bullets struck the walls and the ground, one of them grazing his left shoulder and drawing a trail of blood.
Fortunately, Shi Ding caught up immediately, and his riot shield held off the remaining bullets.
Gherros was forced to roll back into the room, his back slamming against the wall. The wound on his left shoulder burned with pain.
"Their firepower was too fast," Shi Ding said, his shield bearing several more new bullet holes. "They gave us almost no window of opportunity to fire."
"We need to hurry and get out of here, or we'll just die of exhaustion if we stay trapped in this room!"
Gherros took a smoke grenade from his belt, pulled the pin, and flung it toward the door.
Thick, grayish-white smoke quickly billowed out, obscuring the view from the doorway.
This is the warden's most frequently used tactic: using smoke to block the enemy and then killing players through the smoke.
But through Bald Eagle's protective goggles, three red outlines were still clearly visible in the smoke—two shield bearers were adjusting their positions, while the warden crouched low, preparing for a second assault.
"Put on the smoke." Cole had already reloaded, and his command was concise and clear.
The two M14s began firing continuously at the red outline in the smoke.
The bullets pierced through the smoke and struck the shield with a dull thud.
A bullet grazed the edge of the riot shield and struck Shi Ding's exposed right arm. He groaned but did not let go.
Gherros burst out of the smoke again!
This time he opted for a low slide, and the Ash-12 fired continuously towards Miles' approximate location.
But Miles had already shifted half a step to the side the instant he began to move, and all the bullets hit the wall.
Meanwhile, Cole's bullets followed Geherus's movement, one hitting the outside of his right leg and the other grazing his abdomen.
The warden's squad was forced back into the room once again, this time their movements were noticeably unsteady.
Blood seeped from the warden's abdominal wound, soaking his overcoat.
"Your Excellency the Warden, how are you?" Shi Ding's voice was filled with worry.
"I won't die." Han Che gritted his teeth.
He reloaded and made several attempts to break through, expending a lot of bullets but achieving little effective damage.
The opponent's straight frame is really tricky, and I can always anticipate his various big pulls.
"Damn it, they're not even going to act anymore!" Han Che gritted his teeth, finally understanding what the bald eagle's latest technology was.
Cheating software!
Han Che began to miss the days of ACE sweeping the board.
But now there's only one way: we can no longer rely on surprise attacks; we can only advance step by step!
He glanced at Shi Ding and Shi Lei. "One last time. You two push forward with your shields, I'll follow behind. As long as we can get close to them, we still have a chance!"
Shi Ding and Shi Lei exchanged a glance and nodded.
The two men simultaneously raised their shields and rushed out of the room, one on the left and one on the right! The shields closed together to form a mobile cover, with Han Che close behind them.
Cole and Miles' bullets rained down on the shield.
The riot shield began to crack under the continuous blows, and Shi Ding and Shi Lei's arms went numb from the impact.
Bullets flying past the edge of the shield repeatedly grazed the three men.
But they did not stop, advancing slowly.
Fifteen meters.
ten meters.
When the distance closed to eight meters, Shi Lei's shield finally gave way, and the central area cracked! A bullet pierced the hole and hit his chest. He shuddered, but still held on to his shield.
"Shi Lei!" Shi Ding roared.
"Advance!" Blood and foam gushed from Shi Lei's mouth. "Keep advancing!"
Han Che seized the opportunity during a gap in the enemy's fire and peeked out from between the two men to fire!
The Ash-12 fired a few shots, and this time the distance was close enough that all the bullets hit Cole!
Cole's body was thrown backward by the force of the blow but was not shattered. He quickly regained his balance and continued firing.
Previously, he had been confined to the small house and had no chance to observe, but at this distance, Han Che finally saw the other party's armor clearly.
"Damn it, old lady? Young Master A?" Geheros's eyes widened behind the mask.
Wallhack and aimbot, plus a level 6 armor set?!
five meters.
Finally, they've gotten close!
Shi Lei's shield shattered completely. He threw away the fragments and used his own body to shield Geheros!
The Bison assault rifle sprayed bullets wildly at Cole, the bullets hitting the level 6 armor and sending up countless sparks, but it just couldn't penetrate it.
Miles turned his gun around and fired all three bullets at Shi Lei, who fell into a pool of blood and lay motionless.
"Shi Lei—!" Shi Ding's eyes were bloodshot, but he didn't stop. Instead, he accelerated forward and slammed his shield into Miles!
Miles was knocked back two steps, but quickly regained his balance and fired continuously while pressing the muzzle of his gun against the shield.
The shield finally shattered under the continuous blows at extremely close range. Shi Ding threw away the shield and lunged at Cole, trying to hug him.
Cole kicked him in the stomach and simultaneously swung the butt of his gun at his head.
Shi Ding managed to turn his head but could no longer avoid a fatal blow. The butt of the rifle smashed into his head, and the sound of bones breaking was clearly audible.
Shi Ding's desperate lunge caused the bald eagle's gun line to deviate for less than half a second.
Gherros seized that half-second, leaped up, and rushed between Miles and Cole.
