Chapter 78
, Part 3: The Eagle vs. Lü Bu
In a previous operation, John's team had been attacked by an unidentified electromagnetic pulse.
This causes the brain-computer interface to disconnect, damaging the electronic devices.
To address this, the Bald Eagle Society specifically researched countermeasures, which were automatically detected using brain-computer data packets.
With the support of the brain-computer interface data packet, John's team significantly increased their energy levels and forcibly reconnected.
The static screen in the live stream disappeared, and the first-person perspective of John and his two companions was restored.
"It's here! It's here! The internet's working!"
"Where is this place? How did we suddenly get here?"
"Did I miss watching an episode?"
The previous scene showed the Bald Eagles surrounding and killing the warden on the elevator platform.
The scene has now shifted to a corridor on the second floor of the administrative district.
"Wow, look! What's that coming out around the corner?"
"My God, that's a machine gunner! He just walked right out like that?"
The machine gunner emerged from the corner across the corridor and came face to face with John's team of three.
There was almost no cover in the straight corridor.
He was holding a revolver Gatling gun in his hand; the six barrels were already spinning, and the sound of the motor changed from a muffled thud to a sharp whistling.
"Oh my god, how come there's not a single piece of cover here? Run!" The viewers in the live stream were all startled and exclaimed in the chat.
Then, John and the other two gave a low shout.
"Overload activated!! Exoskeleton activated!!"
The hydraulic systems of the three exoskeletons roared simultaneously, producing a short, sharp sound.
The Gatling gun fires with a continuous, tearing "whoosh."
The spent cartridge case flew out of the ejection port and hit the floor at Da Yong's feet, bouncing up with a clatter.
John lunged to the left, his exoskeleton making each step seem longer.
When he stepped down, his toes had barely touched the ground when he was already flying more than two meters away.
The bullet whizzed past his ear; the sound of the air being torn apart was slower than the sound itself. He only heard the whooshing sound of the air breaking after the bullet had already hit the wall behind him.
Cole turned right, and he and John separated at the same time. Bullets passed between them, some hitting the ground, bouncing up, and ricocheting off the wall, leaving craters.
Miles slid forward, his entire body skimming the ground, sparks flying as his exoskeleton knee armor scraped against the floor.
The bullets were fired at extremely high speeds, almost one after another, forming a chain.
The machine gunner pulled the muzzle to the left.
The bullets followed John, chasing after him as he saw the bullet impact points on the wall in front of him.
As the machine gunner's bullets chased John, the other two ran out of ammunition, and Cole seized the opportunity to close the distance.
The machine gunner stood in the middle of the corridor, his feet apart. His heavy armor made his movements look a little slow, but the rotary machine gun never stopped firing.
The six barrels spun into a blurry circle, and spent cartridges flew out and hit the ground, piling up in a small heap at his feet.
John picked up the M14, and the bullet hit the machine gunner in the chest, sending up three sparks, but the man didn't move at all and was completely unaffected.
Cole fired simultaneously, the bullets hitting Dayong's shoulder, leaving a few white spots on his armor, and then nothing.
With the help of brain-computer interfaces, Miles scanned the machine gunner's armor through the images in his goggles.
That thing was too thick. When an M14 bullet hit it, it was like hitting an iron door with a stone. It made a sound, but it did nothing.
Although the machine gunner's armor is very thick, he is also inconvenient to move around and extremely cumbersome.
John, Cole, and Miles had already reached the machine gunner's vicinity.
Cole circled around from the side, firing as he ran. The bullet hit Dayong in the back, sparks flying. Dayong glanced at him sideways.
He tilted his head slightly, and through the thick mask, Cole couldn't see his expression, but he could sense the "that's it?" meaning.
Then Da Yong pulled the gun back and fired a burst at Cole. Cole dove to the side, rolled on the ground, and slammed his back against the wall.
Miles charged forward.
While Dayong was attacking Cole, he charged in from the front. The exoskeleton pushed his speed to the limit, and he raised his M14, firing a shot into Dayong's mask.
The bullet hit his mask, and Dayong's head tilted back slightly. The impact on his head made him pause for a moment before he slowly straightened up.
"Attack the head," Miles said in the brain-computer interface.
John and Cole both looked at the machine gunner's helmet and immediately understood.
Da Yong regained his senses and immediately pulled the trigger. The bullet flew out again, but this time the distance was too close, and the bullet instantly shredded Miles' armor.
The three quickly dispersed, again because they were too close together.
Da Yong's gun couldn't keep up with them; they were too fast. Their exoskeletons made every step unpredictable. The moment their feet touched the ground, they had already changed direction.
The three of them spun around and pulled at Dayong.
Whenever the opportunity arose, he would shoot Da Yong in the head.
Each time you are shot, your head will experience a huge impact, causing dizziness.
Subsequently, the white spot on his bulletproof mask grew larger and turned into a small dent.
John seized the opportunity to get close to Dayong from behind, pressed the muzzle of his gun against the back of Dayong's head, and pulled the trigger.
Da Yong stumbled forward, the Gatling gun barrel dropped, and bullets swept across the ground, creating a row of craters.
Da Yong, wincing in pain, swung the gun around. He grabbed the Gatling gun and used it as a melee weapon, lashing it outwards.
The gun barrel slammed into John's chest, sending him flying. He crashed into the wall and slid down.
Cole rushed forward and fired another burst at Dayong's mask. Dayong swung the Gatling gun back, slamming it into Cole's shoulder. The exoskeleton creaked, and Cole fell to the side.
The pit on the mask got deeper and deeper, and the edges started to peel outward, revealing the black stuff inside.
Da Yong hit him with a Gatling gun. He dodged, but the barrel hit his shoulder, cracking the protective plate of his exoskeleton.
Miles ran over and fired at Dayong's bulletproof mask.
The mask split open in the middle, then the seam widened to both sides, and finally the entire mask shattered into several pieces, falling to the ground.
At the same time, the enormous impact made Da Yong dizzy. He gritted his teeth and rammed forward, sending Miles flying.
But John wouldn't give him a chance to catch his breath. He immediately activated the exoskeleton at full speed, increasing his speed dramatically as he pressed against the exoskeleton again.
He raised the M14 and aimed the muzzle at the head whose mask had already shattered.
Boom!
Da Yong fell backward. As he fell, he was still holding the Gatling gun in his hand, the barrel slowly turning, getting slower and slower until it finally stopped.
The machine gunner was finally killed by the three men, who leaned against the wall, panting heavily.
The exoskeleton on my body was still making noises, and the whistling sound of the hydraulic system had decreased in frequency and turned into a low hum.
Then, with a decompression sound from the exoskeleton, the overload ended.
The three people's light bodies suddenly became heavy, and their bodies, which could barely stand up, were almost collapsed to the ground by the pressure.
A sudden surge of intense aches and fatigue washed over me.
John looked down at Dayong and saw that his eyes were still open, staring at the ceiling of the corridor.
Even though his emotions were forcefully suppressed by the brain-computer interface, John still felt a sense of awe.
