Chapter 100
Patricia, what are you doing?
Early in the morning, the town was bursting with energy, and the streets were bustling with activity.
On the street, Jacques and his men were inspecting the condition of each house, installing security doors on every door inside.
It's the kind of door made of several iron bars, which can prevent people inside from turning into zombies and attacking others, but doesn't prevent people outside from attacking with weapons.
These are some of the methods Caesar proposed after Dr. Jenner's presentation, which can effectively reduce the occurrence of accidents.
Caesar pulled on the armored vehicle door and slammed it shut.
Morales sat in the driver's seat, and T-boy sat in the passenger seat. The two of them were now like Caesar's two henchmen, always busy by Caesar's side.
After waiting a short while, Morales turned to Caesar and said, "Boss, all the other cars are repaired and we can set off."
Caesar nodded, and the convoy started moving.
Daryl was still driving at the front of the group. His hair was getting longer, and he looked rather disheveled.
Caesar always suggested that Daryl take more baths, but Daryl ignored him.
The team mainly consisted of Glenn's squad and members of Caesar's squad.
In the car, Caesar opened his notebook, which contained records of various matters, including the town's food and weapons reserves, as well as what was most urgently needed at the moment.
Caesar flipped through his notebook, thinking about the town's agricultural situation.
The town's population is mostly made up of people from the valley. The people in the valley did not cultivate farmland in the past and focused mainly on animal husbandry, so few people in the town know how to farm.
Caesar himself didn't know either, so he had to seek help from outside.
Atlanta has libraries where you can find relevant books, but it's nothing compared to having a teacher to guide you step by step.
The immediate target was naturally the Herschel family, who were generations of farmers and whose farming techniques were enough for the townspeople to learn.
Moreover, they also have grain seeds and various fruit trees.
By bringing these things back to the valley and relocating the Hershel family there, Caesar believed that the town's farming techniques would undergo a qualitative leap in a very short time.
After thinking for a moment, Caesar's smile faded slightly.
You have to understand, Hershel is a stubborn old man. If the walkers hadn't destroyed the farm, Hershel would never have left. He even wanted to live and die with the farm.
The current time...
Caesar glanced out the window; the scenery was rushing past, the towering black pine cliffs drawing ever closer.
Well, Hershel is probably still dreaming that the zombie virus can be cured.
Perhaps this goal can be achieved in the future, but at most it can only prevent people from becoming infected and turning into zombies, not turn zombies back into humans.
Once you're dead, you're dead; there's no way you can be resurrected.
"Boss, we've reached Bison Pass." Morales's deep voice brought Caesar back from his wandering thoughts.
Caesar looked at the windshield, and what appeared before him was like a mountain peak with a broken section in the middle, along with those incongruous abandoned vehicles at the gap.
There was no one guarding the area, and it looked extremely desolate.
Caesar frowned. "Has Bison Pass been unguarded all this time?"
Morales thought for a moment and replied, "Since the destruction of Leon Ranch, their people have joined the town, and no one is guarding the pass."
"As for Moore, he and his squad have been clearing out walkers in the valley recently, as have the other squads, so the guard post at the pass has become vacant."
Caesar nodded, his brow gradually relaxing.
This was indeed his decision. Having finally taken control of the entire valley, Caesar needed to stabilize the situation there as soon as possible and eliminate unstable factors such as the zombies.
"Morales, have one of your members stay behind and inform Mor to have him and his men guard the pass for a while."
Caesar gave the order, and Morales nodded.
The convoy stopped behind the Buffalo Pass, and everyone got out of their vehicles.
Morales walked to the pickup truck at the back to complete the task assigned by Caesar.
The other combat team members used several pickup trucks to block the pile of abandoned vehicles and slowly retreated.
The abandoned vehicle moved forward a little and rolled down automatically, quickly clearing a path.
Caesar sat in his chariot as they drove out of the Bison Pass.
"Morales, when you go to the construction site in a couple of days to look for road repair materials, remember to find plenty of concrete, steel bars, and iron plates."
Morales agreed calmly without hesitation, "Okay, boss."
"Searching for these things is about building a new gate that will be much easier and safer than this current pile of abandoned cars."
"Next, go and inform Jacqueline, and have her and her men come up with a plan for me, detailing how to build it, what materials to use, and so on."
After Caesar explained himself, he let out a long sigh of relief.
Governing a large country is like cooking a small fish.
With only a little over two hundred people in his territory, Caesar already felt the heavy responsibility on his shoulders. This made him worry about whether his decisions were wrong, whether they were the best approach, and whether he had considered all aspects.
This thought lingered in Caesar's mind, and he could never shake it off.
After the convoy re-closed the Bison Pass, it continued onto Highway 85 and drove straight ahead.
Green Farm is located next to Highway 85.
In the center of Green Farm is a huge, old house with smoke billowing from its tall chimney, and someone cooking food in the kitchen.
Patricia washed her hands, dried them with a rag, and walked out of the kitchen, shouting towards the stairs, "Beth, the soup in my pot is still boiling. Turn the heat down if it boils."
Beth's clear, bird-like voice came from the stairs: "Okay~"
Upon hearing this, Patricia smiled indulgently, shook her head, and walked out of the house.
She walked to the chicken coop not far away, picked out eggs from it, and selected a few old hens.
Patricia, her face tense, took a deep breath, grabbed the old rooster's feet with both hands, and pulled hard.
With the chicken's screams of agony, Patricia twisted the old hen's leg.
She twisted off all the old chickens' legs, put them in a sack, and pushed it to the farm's barn in a wheelbarrow.
Patricia looked a little awkward. Diligent Jimmy trotted over from the stable, smiling as he greeted Patricia.
"Patricia, where are you going?"
Jimmy's smile is full of youthful energy, radiating the enthusiasm and carefree spirit of a young person.
Patricia avoided eye contact and shifted to the side. "Uh... I am..."
Jimmy listened to Patricia's vague words and looked in the direction she was going.
Two paths lead out from the middle of the grassland, and at the end of the paths is a red barn.
