Chapter 34

CDC

Amy's gaze fell on the unconscious Andrea, and she asked anxiously, "Andrea, is she...is she alright?"

"She's fine, but you two are in trouble!"

Amy paused for a moment, then turned her head blankly before realizing what was happening. She said somewhat listlessly, "I know Andrea's behavior was wrong."

"Could you please not take it personally?"

"No, you can't."

Caesar stood up and looked down at Amy, his large and imposing figure exuding a sense of oppression.

Amy swallowed hard, looking at Caesar with fear. "Then, what do you want?"

"It's not about what I want to do. It's about you two sisters receiving the punishment you deserve!"

"What punishment?"

Caesar smiled slightly upon seeing this.

Amy had a bad feeling and shrank back.

The scene before him gave Caesar the illusion that he was forcing a respectable woman into marriage.

Caesar dismissed his excessive fantasies and said calmly, "I need a personal assistant. You will have to take care of my daily life from now on."

"As for your sister, she'll be the hard laborer in the team. She'll have to do all the odd jobs, like repairing cars and cooking. She can't refuse. Otherwise, she won't get any food."

"Did you understand?"

"Oh, okay." Amy's eyes darted around, and she glanced at Caesar with a hint of disappointment before replying, "Alright."

"Take care of your sister today, and come find me to do some work tomorrow."

Caesar turned and left, leaving behind a single sentence.

After taking a few steps, Caesar stopped, turned to look at Amy, and waved the silver pistol: "By the way, I'll keep this gun for now. She can ask me for it back when she proves she's not a threat to the team."

Immediately, Caesar left.

Watching Caesar's retreating figure, Amy looked at Andrea, sighing, unsure how to explain it to her.

Andrea valued that pistol highly; after all, for a chauvinistic father, expressing love was both difficult and precious.

……

The sun rises in the east and sets in the west, and the sky gradually darkens.

As dusk settled, several vehicles finally arrived at the CDC.

Rick looked at the sky through the windshield. "We need to get into the CDC quickly; it's dangerous after dark."

Lori, sitting in the passenger seat, frowned, turned to look at Carl who had sat up, and said to Rick in a tactful tone.

"Rick, how about we find a place to rest and go into the CDC tomorrow?"

Outside the car window, the tall building of the CDC stood, surrounded by military fortifications, but corpses were scattered haphazardly all around.

She didn't know if they were dead or alive, but Lori could clearly sense that it was dangerous here.

"No, the CDC is the safest place. Once we're inside the CDC, we'll be safe." Rick was also exhausted. He didn't want to argue with Lori, so he just stared at her.

From Rick's eyes, Lori understood that she couldn't change his choice.

So the car door opened, and everyone got out.

Rick's face was still dirty as he glanced at the two cars behind him.

There were nine people when we set off this morning, but now there are only six left.

The streets of Atlanta are dangerous. Even though they tried to avoid them, they still attracted a lot of attacks from the zombies, and one car was completely trapped in the horde.

Rick recalled that they screamed and stretched out their hands, begging Rick to save them.

Rick was powerless to do anything, so he had to leave.

Rick looked pained, and a hand rested on his shoulder. The gentle touch and the affection between husband and wife made Rick feel a little better.

Rick turned his head and met Lori's gaze.

When Rick saw the encouragement in Lori's eyes, he felt a warm current flowing through his heart, easing his tense emotions.

Let's go!

Seeing that everyone had gathered around, Lori forced a smile, patted Rick on the shoulder, and whispered something.

Rick nodded and said to the others, "It's getting dark, let's hurry!"

Jacques was thin and carried a suitcase. She didn't have the strength to speak, and just nodded.

Tite, standing to the side, wore a baseball cap and looked somewhat tired; he had clearly had a tough journey.

"Stop talking nonsense, just leave already!"

After speaking, Tite strode forward, looking quite dashing.

Rick didn't linger and quickly caught up with Tite.

Both men were good marksmen and skilled fighters. Rick raised the Colt Python, facing to his right.

Tite, holding a rifle, was facing to his left.

Lori led Carl by the hand, with Jacques and a few others beside them. The group was small, but they moved very quickly.

Rick quickened his pace. He noticed that not only the corpses in front of him were gradually standing up, but the corpses behind him were also rising to their feet.

Their footsteps woke them up.

Rick glanced at the corpses scattered all over the ground. What if they all woke up...

Rick couldn't bear to imagine such a scene, and he gripped the Colt python even tighter.

Through the low wall made of sandbags, a zombie opened its blood-red maw and lunged at Rick.

boom--

Amidst the deafening gunshot, a bullet shattered the zombie's brain, and black blood splattered sparsely on the ground.

Rick looked alarmed and turned to look.

Carl was held in Lori's arms, his ears were gently covered, and his eyes revealed panic.

Jacques and the others didn't look too good; their gazes were fixed on the walkers that had appeared behind them.

There was no time to walk slowly anymore. Rick shouted, "Run! Let's pick up the pace!"

As he spoke, Ricky nudged Lori, then pushed the others to make himself fall behind the group.

The zombies that attacked from behind were met head-on by the bombardment of the Colt Python.

Tit, looking at the densely packed horde of corpses around him, cursed, "Fuck, how did they suddenly become so many?"

Tite fired his gun while cursing.

She was holding a rifle, which was much more powerful than Rick's. She fired a burst of bullets, and a row of walkers fell to the ground.

The firelight flickered, standing out starkly against the dim sky.

The group moved forward, and Tite, being very reliable, stayed at the front, holding off the most walkers and successfully clearing the way.

Rick, who was behind, ran out of bullets while firing and could only reload and retreat, but he still managed to block the walkers quite well.

The CDC building itself looks like an office building, but the overall materials and design are very strong. In theory, even artillery shells should not be able to penetrate it.

The CDC has two entrances; one is a large entrance near the center of the military base, while Rick and his team arrived at the smaller entrance.

The small door is similar to a roller shutter door, and there is a camera on the roller shutter door with a faint red light flashing on it.
