Chapter 24
Planning
The convoy drove along the wide highway, with the desolate scenery on both sides receding into the distance.
Caesar calculated that Sean should be dead by now.
Sean is a very capable person, but he can't be a partner or a subordinate.
Caesar worried he wouldn't be able to sleep if he kept Sean around.
Caesar was especially worried because Sean was detached from the outside world.
Someone who knows part of Caesar's camp is wandering around outside, and if someone captures Sean, they could use all sorts of cruel methods to interrogate him.
Caesar couldn't believe that Sean valued the base more than his own life.
Who knows, in the future, when Sean struggles to survive in the apocalypse, he might also lead his hyena-like minions to Caesar's ranch.
All of this made Caesar uneasy.
So Caesar gave Rip the order to take Sean to the train station.
The quarry was very close to Atlanta, and the convoy quickly arrived in Atlanta.
Following the bombing of Atlanta, large numbers of civilians fled the city in panic.
This resulted in a large number of cars piling up on the highways leaving Atlanta, while there were no vehicles on the highways entering Atlanta.
From a distance, Atlanta looks like an abandoned factory, lacking vitality and maintenance, and decaying and aging rapidly.
The convoy stopped on the highway leading into Atlanta, and the dozen or so cars naturally split into two groups.
There were only a few vehicles in one group, which belonged to Rick and his group.
One group consisted of Caesar and others.
After Caesar got out of the car, he went to find Rick.
"Rick, I need your help," Caesar said earnestly.
Rick asked in surprise, "Go ahead and tell me. You saved me, no need to be so polite."
Upon hearing Rick's words, Caesar smiled and said, "I'd like Tite to go to the CDC with your convoy."
"You've changed your mind?"
Rick's face lit up with joy. In his mind, Caesar was a very visionary man, and gaining his support was equivalent to gaining great recognition.
Unexpectedly, Rick was so happy, but Caesar didn't point it out and just smiled and nodded.
"Yes, I think the CDC still has a chance of developing a vaccine."
"So, I'd like Tite to come with you so she can learn about the CDC."
"As for me, I need to help these people settle down as soon as possible. I can't abandon them for a vaccine with uncertain news."
Rick was also very supportive of Caesar's idea and happily accepted Tite's offer.
After chatting for a few more minutes, Rick and the others prepared to leave.
The CDC is located deep in Atlanta, so Rick and his team wanted to get there as quickly as possible, ideally before nightfall.
To avoid the hassle of finding accommodation at night.
"Caesar, until we meet again."
Rick reached out his hand.
Caesar shook hands with him, and the two nodded to each other.
As they watched Rick get into the car, and Tite was about to leave, Caesar stopped Tite.
"Tite, you need to go to the CDC now."
"I need to explain the plan to you clearly!"
Tite's eyes lit up, and he straightened his back, looking much more energetic: "Boss, go ahead and say it."
Caesar, puzzled by Tite's excitement, could only continue speaking.
"The CDC is a treasure trove, with a large stockpile of supplies and a lot of firearms. But it's also very dangerous inside."
Tite's expression turned serious; she understood the danger her boss was referring to.
"The CDC stores many viruses from around the world. To prevent virus leaks, the CDC will self-destruct after its energy is depleted."
"That kind of bomb can instantly generate temperatures of thousands of degrees, leveling everything around it."
At this point, Tite's excitement vanished completely. "Boss, can I not go?"
"Are you serious? I can find someone else," Caesar said.
Tite's feigned fear vanished instantly, replaced by a curt "Oh, I was just kidding. I'm going!"
"Your mission this time is to ensure your own safety first, and then control the CDC researcher so that he can open the door for us."
Caesar's eyes lit up at the thought of opening the doors of the CDC and having access to an astonishing quantity of long-lasting food.
"But can I, alone, control so many researchers?"
Tite wasn't afraid, but he was worried about whether he could control all the researchers on his own.
"Don't worry about that. There are only a handful of staff left at the CDC. I'm sure you can do it."
Caesar had great confidence in Tite.
That's a joke. The CDC only has one researcher who can't even kill a chicken.
Moreover, this researcher had been living underground for a long time, and his mental state was already worrying.
This sickly researcher is someone Tite could easily control with one hand.
When Tite left, Caesar gave her a walkie-talkie and fully armed her with a rifle and a pistol.
The ammunition was also fully loaded.
Caesar could not have imagined that Tite would launch an attack at the CDC.
Will Rick and Jacques side with Tite, or will they try to subdue Tite?
……
After sending Tite off, the team also took a temporary break.
Caesar chose a parking lot on the outskirts of Atlanta, which was completely empty with no cars parked inside.
After the convoy drove in, Caesar arranged for some vehicles to be abandoned.
Some of the vehicles in the convoy only had one or two people inside, and there weren't enough supplies to fit inside.
Caesar then arranged for the people in the car to live in other people's cars and to move the supplies.
The gasoline in the abandoned car was completely drained.
After the reorganization was completed, the fleet was reduced by several vehicles, becoming more streamlined and flexible.
The convoy contained many women and children who were not capable of fighting, so Caesar arranged for some combat personnel to stay behind to provide protection.
"Glenn, you know the situation in Atlanta best. What we need most right now is food; food is the most important thing."
Caesar gathered the members of the caravan who were able to go out and collect supplies, and discussed with them how to find food.
Looking at the young and inexperienced Glenn, Caesar asked.
Glenn stroked his chin, his gaze fixed on the map on the ground, his mind racing.
This large supermarket... is too close to those streets teeming with zombies, no way!
Well, there's not much food left here; too many people have already searched for it.
Glenn was deep in thought, while Moore, standing beside him, grew impatient.
Moore pointed at Glenn, who was squatting on the ground looking at a map, and said disdainfully, "Boss, he's just a delivery guy. Knowing the streets doesn't necessarily mean he can lead us..."
"Got it." Glenn picked up a marker and drew a circle on the map.
Caesar ignored Mor and stared intently at him.
It was a food wholesale market located in a convenient but not downtown area, mainly supplying food to the surrounding streets.
The food density is high, and the human traffic is low. The number of walkers shouldn't be too large.
