Chapter 12

Sanatorium

Firearms held a strong attraction for Guillermo.

Caesar asked curiously, "The military base in Atlanta has a lot of firearms."

"Among them are armored vehicles, and even tanks."

"Why don't you go to the military base and pick up some guns?"

Guillermo took a deep breath, looked back at the rest of his team, and pointed at them.

"Look at them, I'm their leader."

"Their survival depends entirely on me; that is to say, I have to take responsibility for their lives."

"I know military bases have guns and cannons. But I won't risk their lives to gamble on them getting out unscathed."

Caesar did not comment on this.

Because this is the apocalypse, and the apocalypse is not a game. It will not force you to develop and expand your power, but the apocalypse will make you encounter one invincible enemy after another.

Caesar would not rely on the mercy of his enemies, so he would never stop his progress and development because of risks.

Of course, Caesar would be at the forefront.

Beth's pickup truck was completely totaled; the engine wouldn't start, and the body was severely damaged.

Caesar got into the pickup truck, grabbed the walkie-talkie, and said to Moore, "Follow them, keep your distance."

"Alright, boss." Moore nodded, scratching his head. "What a messed up day."

"Turn on the walkie-talkie," Caesar shouted.

"Rip, Rip. This is Caesar, can you hear me?"

"Boss, I can hear you. Haven't you left the city yet?"

"I've discovered a group of people. Beth and Grandpa Jimmy are probably at their base. The base is at the sanatorium next to Peach Tree Street. You'd better come over right away."

"Okay, boss, I'll be right there."

Rip's excited voice came through the walkie-talkie.

Caesar smiled and looked at Moore: "Being able to find family and friends in the apocalypse is already a great blessing."

Mor thought of Daryl and secretly agreed.

Kaiser’s pickup truck, sandwiched between Guillermo’s convoy, slowly drove through the streets of Atlanta.

Guillermo's car led the way; they were very familiar with Atlanta and knew which streets had fewer walkers and which were unobstructed.

Soon, the convoy slowed down.

Guillermo, driving at the front of the convoy, rolled down his window and waved towards the entrance of an alley.

The alley is wide enough for two cars to pass side by side. It was originally closed off by military barbed wire, but Guillermo's team has now reinforced it with steel plates.

The surface is covered with welding marks, making it impossible to tell what the original wire mesh looked like. The steel plate is very thick, giving people a strong sense of security.

There are pulleys underneath the barbed wire, so they can push it open directly from one side.

Several burly men emerged from inside, each covered in tattoos, carrying guns, and looking menacing.

Moore leaned back in his chair. "Boss, these guys don't look like good guys!"

"Are you scared?" Caesar glanced at Mor and said calmly.

Moore scoffed, "You think I'm afraid of this group?"

Before Moore could explain, the pickup truck followed the convoy into the alley.

The alley was deep, and the surrounding buildings looked like they had been abandoned for a long time, covered with vines, and you could see the old walls through the gaps.

After driving for a while, we finally arrived at an open space. The open space was a cracked concrete ground covered with many leaves.

Caesar got out of the car, and Guillermo walked over and beckoned to one of his men: "Come on, help them drive the car into the garage."

The subordinate immediately stepped forward to take the key.

Caesar raised his hand and said, "That won't be necessary."

"Moore, drive the car in, don't get out."

Caesar patted the car door and gave instructions to Moore in the driver's seat.

Caesar stood with Guillermo, a look of disappointment flashing in Guillermo's eyes.

He didn't even let his men drive; if his men had gotten into the car...

Even if he doesn't steal everything from the car, taking a few small items to find out how much cargo is inside would be very beneficial for him in compensation negotiations.

Caesar glanced thoughtfully at Guillermo, noticing the disappointment in his eyes, and immediately became wary.

They were definitely eyeing my supplies.

Guillermo realized what was going on, concealed his true intentions, and smiled as he made an inviting gesture, "Come on, I'll take you inside."

Guillermo then showed Caesar around the sanatorium.

The sanatorium is located in a very remote area and was converted from a factory and other buildings. Its exterior looks rough and unkempt.

The front of the sanatorium was a factory building, with many vehicles parked inside and many burly men standing there.

When they saw Caesar approaching, they stood up, puffed out their chests, and tried to make themselves look even more ferocious.

"Philip is a caregiver at the nursing home, and his family members also live there."

"After the apocalypse, most of the caregivers at the nursing home ran away, leaving only Philip. I'm the security guard at the nursing home."

Guillermo is very open and candid about his past work.

"They were all family members of the elderly in the nursing home. They thought of taking care of the elderly when the end times came, so they decided to stay. As a result, they elected me as their leader."

Guillermo looked somewhat helpless; he did feel burdened by the position, and the strong sense of responsibility often made him feel suffocated.

As they spoke, the two arrived at the back of the sanatorium.

Behind is the actual nursing home itself, with many care rooms for the elderly to live in.

There was even a garden where the plants were thriving and well-maintained.

Guillermo led Caesar into the small building at the back.

Upon entering the small building, Caesar saw a blond-haired bass and an elderly man with white hair, sitting in a wheelchair named Jimmy.

"Hey, you bastard."

Beth turned her head and teased with a smile.

She jogged a couple of steps, jumped up and hugged Caesar, and said with a hearty sigh, "Long time no see."

Caesar released the bass and replied with a smile, "Long time no see. Rip missed you, and we often went out for drinks."

"Of course, my charm goes without saying, he's completely under my thumb." Beth tossed her hair, her radiant expression visible as the strands danced in the wind.

Caesar walked up to Grandpa Jimmy's wheelchair and knelt down: "Grandpa Jimmy, I brought Jimmy out to find you."

"Thank you for taking care of my grandson, thank you." Grandpa Jimmy grasped Caesar's aged hand, his eyes filled with gratitude.

Where is Jimmy?

After thanking Caesar, Grandpa Jimmy couldn't help but ask a question.

Caesar smiled, took a walkie-talkie from his waist, and handed it to Grandpa Jimmy: "He'll be here soon. You can use this to talk to him."

Grandpa Jimmy took the walkie-talkie and started fiddling with it.

But no matter how hard he tried, he couldn't even turn on the walkie-talkie, so Beth had to step in to help.

"Shall we continue our conversation?"

Guillermo had the foresight to not disturb them, and only then did he step forward and speak to Caesar.
