Chapter 45
I have long admired your name, Dr. Jenner!
"Moore, you'd better wipe that blood off. If it gets in your mouth, I'll have to take action."
Caesar jumped off the truck, his heavy body slamming to the ground with a thud, and walked toward Moore, pointing at him and saying.
"You'd better tell your teammates as well, it's better to be safe than sorry."
"Okay, boss." Upon hearing this, Moore's expression changed. He quickly wiped his face and glanced at Daryl.
Daryl shoved Moore away impatiently. "Did a zombie eat your brain? I use a crossbow."
Moore chuckled awkwardly, then yelled at his team members who were trying not to laugh, "What are you laughing at? Quickly check yourself over and wipe all the black blood off. If the virus gets into your body, you can expect to turn into a zombie!"
At the shout, the team members quickly composed themselves and checked their teammates.
The Moor combat squad began checking themselves, and the other members of the team who had just been in battle also checked themselves.
Caesar nodded with satisfaction. Reality isn't television; the more careful you are, the easier it is to survive.
A short while later, everyone heard footsteps coming from the depths of the dark parking lot.
Caesar's expression turned serious, and with a wave of his hand, everyone who was examining the body stopped what they were doing.
Members of the team who are not participating in the combat should quickly get into the vehicle and close the doors and windows.
Meanwhile, Daryl led his team to hide on both sides, next to the cars that were already in the parking lot, with their guns pointed at the source of the sound.
Caesar stood at the front of the group with Morales and a few others, keeping a close eye on what was ahead. Mor also stood beside Caesar with a machete in hand, his eyes as wary as a wolf's.
The sound of footsteps grew closer under the truck's headlights.
Only after recognizing who was approaching did Caesar raise his hand to de-escalate the team's alert status.
"I've heard so much about you, Dr. Jenner!"
After washing up and resting, Dr. Jenner looked much better and had a scholarly air about her.
Caesar, wearing a helmet, spoke in a muffled voice as the two shook hands.
After shaking hands, Jenner's face stiffened, and he immediately regretted it.
Caesar had been killing zombies, and his bomb suit was covered in bits of zombie flesh and blood. His hands were also covered in blood, and when he touched Jenner, Jenner's hands were covered in it too.
Suppressing his nausea, Jenner withdrew his hand.
"I just saw your team fighting the walkers; they were indeed very powerful. I believe you will definitely be able to survive well in the apocalypse."
Jenner ignored the unusual sensation in his hand and sincerely expressed his admiration for his future boss.
Caesar smiled and nodded: "That's precisely why we need you. I believe that with your scientific research capabilities, you will definitely be able to develop products that are beneficial to humanity."
Everyone carries the flowery sedan chair.
Jenner died shortly after his appearance. Caesar didn't know the true extent of his scientific research capabilities, but the fact that a base could support a laboratory developing a vaccine represented a glimmer of hope for the future.
Even without any output, it can still make residents feel a sense of belonging to the base.
Caesar and Jenner exchanged a few words, and Caesar asked about the walkers that had appeared in the parking lot.
Jenner explained, "After the CDC closed, I was the only one there, but before the CDC garage was open to the public."
"Those soldiers must have been bitten and then hid in the garage and turned into zombies. I haven't been to the garage and haven't found them."
Jenner couldn't help but feel a bit scared. Luckily, she was able to stay at home. Otherwise, if she had entered the garage without any precautions, she would probably have been torn to pieces by the walkers in the blink of an eye.
After speaking with Jenner, Rick approached Caesar, and the two embraced.
"Caesar, I never expected to see you again."
Rick was somewhat agitated. After leaving the team, he began to take responsibility, shouldering the lives and fortunes of several people.
This made him feel out of place for a while, and he was also grateful for everything Caesar had done at the quarry.
Caesar removed his helmet, his face showing more sincerity: "I'm also very happy to see you."
Seeing you means that all the guns in King's County are mine.
Rick smiled, then his smile vanished, and he said seriously, "You might not know this, but I just received some bad news from Dr. Jenner today."
Dr. Jenner, who had already been listening intently, stood not far away, her attention focused entirely on Rick and Caesar's conversation.
That's right, tell Caesar about the zombie virus so he can truly appreciate my research capabilities.
"Everyone in the world is now infected with the zombie virus. Whether bitten by a zombie or dying of natural causes, they will all become zombies."
"Oh, that? I already knew that."
Caesar's nonchalant words floated lightly into Jenner's ears, leaving him dazed and confused.
What? He already knew.
Caesar shrugged. "I've met some bastards who killed people, and the people they killed turned into zombies and bit them to death."
Caesar briefly explained what had happened, but also took the opportunity to inform everyone in the convoy that everyone had been infected with the zombie virus.
When most of the team members found out, they were somewhat surprised, but quickly accepted it.
After all, having acquired the ability and courage to cope with the apocalypse, such bad news was no longer enough to affect them.
Rick was struck by how quickly they accepted it, especially Carol, and realized just how different people can be.
The few people who followed him were still deeply immersed in the fantasy of what would happen if they became zombies after they died, and they didn't realize that the key was to survive in the present.
"Caesar." Rick paused, glancing at Lori and her son who were talking with Carol and her daughter, "I want to bring my family and join your team."
"I know, I refused before..."
"Okay." Before Rick could explain his thought process, Caesar nodded in agreement.
Rick looked at Caesar in surprise. Caesar said, "Rick, I believe you can survive well in the apocalypse, and I also believe you will help my camp and help more people survive."
After saying that, Caesar patted Rick on the shoulder.
……
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, on the basement floor.
Caesar poured most of the diesel fuel he brought into the CDC's power generation area, making the entire area like a sports car with a full tank of fuel. The living area did not need to conserve electricity and hot water for the time being.
Although the rooms were limited, Caesar allowed everyone to take turns going into the rooms to shower.
The majority of the non-combat personnel were women. They were the first to clean up before going into the CDC's cafeteria to cook.
Some are taken to the laundry room for cleaning.
A small number of them returned to the parking lot to clean their vehicles.
After showering, the combat personnel would patrol the area to check if any remaining zombies were still inside the CDC.
They also operate in three shifts to ensure that there are people patrolling during the day and night, and that they can arrive at the scene as soon as possible if there is any situation.
With their addition, the CDC instantly returned to a pre-apocalyptic state, becoming tightly organized and efficient.
