Chapter 57

Slaughter

Cliff went down to the second floor, went to the restroom, swaggered in, and went to the toilet without closing the door.

After it was over, Cliff strolled leisurely into the living room, casually picked up an open bag of snacks from the coffee table, and started eating them.

After eating a few pieces, the bag was empty. Cliff cursed at the big man on the sofa, "That son of a bitch Finn, he didn't even leave me any more."

As he spoke, Cliff, enraged, kicked Finn.

Finn didn't react at all, turned over and continued to sleep.

"Sigh, I should go ask those three unlucky bastards for some food tomorrow, otherwise we'll be starving."

Cliff looked around the kitchen and realized there wasn't much to eat right now, so he regretfully decided to go upstairs.

Suddenly, the room lit up and then went dark again.

Cliff looked back and saw several cars driving by outside the window. His eyes widened instantly, and all traces of sleepiness vanished.

He quickened his pace, kicked off his slippers, and approached the window to take a closer look.

There were several cars outside, speeding forward with their headlights on, and Cliff could hear their engines roaring.

Cliff turned his head, wanting to call out a warning, but then shut his mouth.

The other side was clearly coming to launch a sneak attack; with so many of them, they could easily surround our group.

Even if we call everyone up, we still can't stop them. It's better to let them distract the enemy.

A glint of malice flashed in Cliff's eyes. "Sorry, everyone, I don't want to die."

Looking up, Cliff saw Finn on the sofa.

Yes, he can pave the way for me.

Thinking of this, Cliff ran to Finn, covered Finn's mouth with one hand, and slapped Finn with the other.

Finn was obese. He shuddered, immediately opened his eyes, and cowered in fear.

"Fan, Fan. Quiet down!" Cliff loosened his grip a little to let Fan breathe freely, then pointed out the window and whispered.

"We don't have time. The enemy has surrounded us. They outnumber us, we can't win, we have to run."

As he spoke, Cliff grabbed two handguns from the living room; they both belonged to Finn.

As for Cliff's own, it was upstairs.

After giving his brief explanation, Cliff pulled Finn toward the back door.

With a creak, Cliff saw the woods behind the ranch. The dark entrance to the woods looked like the gaping maw of a wild beast, making Cliff's heart pound.

But now, he has no other choice.

"Wait a minute." Just as they were about to leave, Finn tugged at Cliff. "Shouldn't we warn the others?"

Cliff turned his head and said softly, "Sometimes, we have to learn to accept the sacrifices our friends make. After all, they want us to survive, don't they?"

Finn paused for a moment, a hint of reluctance appearing on his chubby face.

Cliff stopped worrying about him; if things dragged on any longer, Cliff didn't know if he would survive.

Crouching low, Cliff walked out the back door, using the cabin as cover to quicken his pace.

The sound of cars around him grew louder and louder. Cliff looked back and saw that the vehicles had crashed through the ranch fence and were about to reach the cabin.

Immediately, Cliff saw a rather broad, dark figure rush past him.

Cliff turned his head and realized it was Finn.

"Fuck, I thought he was genuinely compassionate."

Cliff immediately quickened his pace and ran into the woods.

After the two left, the people inside the cabin were awakened by the noise. One of them irritably shouted out the window, "All of you, keep it down! Aren't you going to sleep?"

He thought it was his companion playing tricks.

The quick-thinking companions had already grabbed their guns, ready to either meet the enemy or rush out of the room.

After the pickup truck approached the cabin, it circled the cabin a few times, then poked out a gun from the window and fired at the front door, back door, and several windows.

The bullet shattered the glass and entered the room; the gunshot and the sound of shattering glass instantly stunned everyone.

Fear brewed in their hearts. Several people slumped to the ground, swallowing hard in fear, praying that they wouldn't break down their doors.

Seeing that no one came out, Morales parked the pickup truck to the side of the cabin, quickly got out, and approached the cabin wall, pointing his gun at the wooden door.

Morales was followed by several people.

Barrett stood on the other side of the wooden door, the young man filled with ambition, gesturing as if he wanted to rush in.

Morales made a waiting gesture, then turned and gestured to the others, instructing them to enter through the first-floor window.

While Morales and the others were making arrangements for the breakthrough, T-boy and the rest of his men stood guard by the car, raising their rifles and aiming them at the second-floor windows to guard against any sneak attacks.

As Morales entered the first floor through the glass window, he gestured for Barrett to attack.

At the same time, several people entered through the doors and windows on the first floor and silently occupied the floor.

Two people went to search the rooms on the first floor, while Morales led Barrett and the others to try to go up to the second floor.

I had just stepped onto the stairs.

boom--

The bullet struck Barrett, who instantly collapsed to the ground, letting out a soft groan of pain.

Morales immediately raised his gun to retaliate, and his teammates also unleashed a hail of bullets.

A hail of bullets pierced flesh, and in an instant the man was turned into a bloody mess, collapsing to the ground, bleeding profusely.

Morales held a gun, while his teammates grabbed Barrett by the collar and dragged him back into the living room.

"Barrett, are you alright?" His teammate tore open Barrett's clothes and saw obvious bullet holes in his bulletproof vest.

Barrett forced a smile, but his forehead was covered in sweat: "It's nothing."

"You little brat, don't rush too fast next time." Seeing him like this, the teammate punched Barrett on the shoulder, making Barrett hiss and gasp in pain.

Morales turned around and saw that Barrett was alright, so he took a grenade from his waist.

"Make way," Morales said, pulling the pin and throwing the grenade to the second floor.

The grenade tumbled through the air and rolled to the ground on the second floor.

Then, with a bang.

After the loud noise, the second floor was a complete mess.

With a sudden ringing in his ears, Morales rushed upstairs with his rifle, crashed into the rooms, and dragged everyone out.

Then gunshots rang out, and everyone was executed.

The sound of the grenade explosion carried far. Cliff, who had entered the woods, turned around abruptly, looked at the sound, and frowned in confusion.

Was that a hand grenade? It made such a big noise.

Looking back, Cliff found that Finn had already run quite far away and hadn't looked back at all because of the commotion.

Cliff gritted his teeth. That bastard ran away really fast. Damn it, am I going to be his scapegoat?

With that thought in mind, Cliff mustered his courage and continued running forward.

As they ran, they gradually lost the sounds of birds and insects, and could only hear the pounding of their hearts.
