Chapter 25
Position
The surrounding area has a wide field of vision, which will allow for good reconnaissance if zombies attack.
After Glenn explained the advantages of this place, Moore, Daryl, T-boy, Morales and others all turned to look at him with surprise.
"Wha...what's wrong?"
Glenn felt a little embarrassed by the stares and wiped his face with his hand, thinking he hadn't washed his face properly that morning.
Daryl asked疑惑地问道, "Kid from the Dragon Kingdom, what did you do before the apocalypse?"
Glenn's face flushed red. "I'm of Korean descent."
"I'm just a pizza deliveryman."
Caesar patted Glenn on the shoulder and said smugly, "I told you you could do it."
As he spoke, Caesar looked at Jimmy: "Jimmy, you'll be spending a lot of time with Glenn from now on."
"Okay!" Jimmy nodded.
In Caesar's view, Jimmy and Glenn were the same kind of people, people who could continuously learn and grow.
Similarly, neither of them has much self-confidence, perhaps due to their upbringing, but this cannot overshadow their abilities.
"Glenn, you and Jimmy take a few men and go scout ahead."
Immediately, Caesar gave Glenn and Jimmy their orders.
"Me?" Glenn's eyes widened, he pointed to himself, and quickly shook his head: "I can't, I can't bring people."
"I can work alone, but I can't lead a group."
Caesar looked at Jimmy, whose expression also indicated that he was not up to the task.
"We'll talk about it later. Let me assign tasks to the others first."
Then Caesar had Daryl and Mor lead one group, and Morales and T-boy lead the rest of the outgoing personnel to follow him.
After assigning the tasks, Caesar, followed by Glenn and Jimmy, walked together to the edge of the parking lot.
Here, you can see a dead city, rotting chunks of flesh stuck to barbed wire, and zombies lying on top sticking out their scarlet tongues, licking the rotten flesh.
An atmosphere of decay and depravity permeated the city.
Caesar pointed to the zombie. "Look at that zombie."
Jimmy and Glenn didn't understand Caesar's meaning, so they could only stare wide-eyed.
"Do you want to become zombies?"
Caesar suddenly asked.
Glenn shook his head, as did Jimmy.
"Then why did you refuse to lead your men?"
"Giving you these positions is a reward, an honor, and also an opportunity. Do you really want to be at the bottom of the hierarchy when the base expands its workforce?"
"Even if you lack ambition, what about your families in the future?"
"Let me tell you, with more people and more resources, classes will naturally emerge. When there's more food and scarce medicine, what will you do if your positions don't contribute enough?"
"Are you just going to watch your family member die of illness? Are you going to let your family member envy others?"
"If you don't fight, you'll become a stepping stone."
Caesar's cold words stung Jimmy and Glenn.
Yeah, what will we do then?
Medicines are far scarcer in the post-apocalyptic world than before, because some medicines are almost impossible to produce anymore.
With many sick people and a shortage of medicine, the only option is to set up a threshold to allow those who can contribute more to the base to survive.
Jimmy has a grandfather who is getting old and has developed chronic illnesses, so medication is absolutely necessary.
Glenn also realized this. He was young and naturally had high hopes for the future. He had a wife and children, and he also thought about how to create better living conditions for his family.
"So, shut your mouths. Turn around and go back to your men, and learn how to lead them to survive in this cruel apocalypse."
"Be more mature, young man."
After saying that, Caesar urged the two to walk back to the caravan.
Glenn and Jimmy exchanged a glance and awkwardly walked in front of their subordinates.
They had only five men under their command, all of whom were strong and healthy young and middle-aged men.
Glenn stood stiffly, feeling the gazes of the others fixed on him, gazes filled with doubt, which he could clearly sense.
"My name is Glenn. We used to see each other often at the camp, but we rarely talked."
"From now on, I will be your captain. I am very familiar with Atlanta and I am also well aware of the dangers in Atlanta."
"If you want to live, you must stick close to me and obey my orders. I don't want to lose my life because of you."
Glenn spoke more and more naturally, and at the end, he glanced around.
Among the crowd were two middle-aged men who looked quite honest, with large hands and feet. They had joined the group for their families.
Of the other three young men, one seemed rather introverted, another had a blank expression, and the last one didn't look very friendly.
The less-than-friendly young man, before Jimmy could even introduce himself, blurted out, "How did you guys become the team leader?"
As he spoke, he looked Jimmy and Glenn up and down, his eyes filled with a mocking gaze.
"It doesn't look that great to me."
"I joined the expedition team to survive, not to die with you two little brats."
The young man's face clearly showed his mockery.
The two middle-aged men glanced back and forth between the young man and Glen Jimmy a few times, without saying a word, just watching.
The remaining silent youth also noticed that something was wrong and kept his mouth shut even tighter.
The last young man still stood there blankly, as if nothing concerned him.
This was a challenge to Glenn's authority, and even though he had just become captain, Glenn would not allow it to happen.
But Glenn was more worried about one thing: if he couldn't beat the youths after he went up there, he would definitely lose his captaincy.
As he was pondering a solution, Jimmy pushed Glenn aside and strode up to him.
"My name is Jimmy, your vice-captain. Remember my name."
"You're... "
Snapped--
Before the young man could utter a sarcastic remark, Jimmy rushed forward and crashed into his arms.
He grabbed the young man's thighs with both hands, tripping him.
Using her own weight and the force of her forward momentum, she knocked the youth heavily to the ground.
The pain in his back made the young man curl up, writhing in agony like a shrimp.
Jimmy stood up, lunged forward with his right foot, and kicked the young man hard in the stomach.
It felt as if something had suddenly crawled into his abdomen; the young man opened his mouth and vomited some things out.
"Next time, watch your mouth."
"I forgot to tell you, I'm a cowboy, and I let my skills speak for themselves."
Then, Jimmy crouched down and gently patted the young man's face. "What's your name?"
"Um, my name is Bobby." Bobby swallowed hard, the pain all over his body warning him to be obedient.
Jimmy turned to look at his men around him. "What about you guys?"
"My name is Hugh," the two middle-aged men said. "Just call me Wayne."
"Clark." The thinner, more introverted young man looked at Bobby lying on the ground, a look of triumphant joy flashing in his eyes.
The remaining young man still didn't say anything.
Jimmy didn't cause him any trouble and nodded, "Very good."
Jimmy stood up and patted Glenn on the shoulder: "Let's talk about our task for today."
Glenn then realized, "Our mission today is to go to..."
Caesar nodded approvingly. He hadn't expected that Jimmy, who looked a bit simple-minded on the ranch, and Glenn, who looked a bit timid, would make such a good pair.
Well, Daryl and Mohr have also become close with their men.
That's right, it's about truly becoming one with everyone.
