Chapter 56
The Tower Opens!
In truth, Caesar didn't care whether Mor was loyal to him or not; he only cared whether Daryl was loyal to him.
Moore was a man who could be disloyal to anyone, but he was absolutely loyal to his brother.
After Moore left, Amy came over as well.
Seeing that Amy was still there, Caesar asked with some confusion, "Didn't Carol arrange a room for you?"
Amy's pretty eyebrows furrowed: "Why did Carol arrange a room for me?"
Caesar was momentarily speechless. Yes, why did Carol arrange a room for her?
"Alright, you should go back to sleep now."
Caesar thought about it for a moment, then gave up on pondering the question.
"Which room should I sleep in?" Amy pointed to the surrounding rooms.
Caesar said expressionlessly, "You should go back to your room and sleep, not here."
"But shouldn't the secretary live with the boss?"
Amy took two steps forward, getting closer to Caesar, her face full of sincerity.
Is this girl truly ignorant, or is she pretending not to understand?
"Is your family Christian?"
Caesar suddenly asked.
“Yes, my family has always been evangelical Christians,” Amy said.
Some families in the United States belong to conservative denominations of Christianity, whose doctrines explicitly limit sexual activity to marriage.
Before marriage, elders in the family will ask children to avoid all things related to sex, including sex education.
Caesar understood why Amy thought this way; she only knew that the secretary and the boss lived together, but she didn't know that they were lovers.
Caesar couldn't explain it to Amy either. He thought of Andrea. Could it be Andrea too?
"What about your sister Andrea? Is she like you?"
Amy shook her head and said, "After Andrea went to university, she was no longer a Christian."
No wonder.
Caesar understood, but simply said, "Go sleep with your sister tonight."
"I have things to do tonight, and you'll be all alone in the stone house. Aren't you scared?"
Amy knew Caesar's battle plan for the night, thought about it and agreed.
As night deepened, the temperature in the valley plummeted.
The mountains are dark and towering, and from the pasture, most of the view is blocked by them.
Only a few torches were burning in the pasture, crackling and popping, with the occasional bleating of cattle and sheep, making it very quiet.
The door to the stone house opened, and Caesar stepped out, adjusted his hat, exhaled, and looked at the quiet pasture.
Caesar's appearance was like a signal; sounds came from several small cabins nearby, and figures emerged from the darkness.
In the darkness, faces were obscured, and everyone held weapons, remaining silent, yet a palpable sense of murderous intent emanated from them.
Several figures emerged from the crowd, and their faces could only be seen clearly once they entered the stone house.
Daryl, holding a crossbow, nodded to Caesar, who responded in kind.
Moore chuckled and stepped forward, leaning against the fence in front of the stone house. "Boss," he said with a grin, "shall we go now?"
Caesar glanced down at his watch; it was two or three in the morning, the time when people are most sleepy.
It's time to leave!
"Morales, T-boy!" Caesar shouted into the crowd.
Morales stepped out from the side, stroking his beard. "Boss, I'm here."
T-boy also stepped out of the crowd; without showing his teeth, he almost blended into the darkness.
Caesar pointed to the two men: "Today, you two will be in charge of leading the squad."
Morales and T-boy exchanged a glance and nodded to Caesar.
"Colby, Lloyd, Ryan, and Tite, the four of you, you're with me!"
Caesar gave the order to his trusted confidants, and received affirmative replies from all four.
"You have only one goal: storm their houses and shoot them in the head."
"I don't want any survivors. Do you understand? I don't want any survivors."
Caesar, with his hands on the railing, said...
"clear!"
The crowd shouted in unison.
"Set off!!!"
They split into two groups: Daryl and Moore led one group to one side, while Morales and T led the other.
They drove their pickup trucks quickly out of the ranch and headed towards their target ranch.
The gates of the stables opened, and Caesar rode out at breakneck speed on a black horse, with Lloyd and the others following closely behind.
The black horse beneath him was called the Night Fury, Caesar's mount for several years, and was in its prime.
Before Caesar returned, it hadn't been out for much exercise, but now that it was out, it was running around happily.
After leaving the ranch, Night Fury increased its speed even further and caught up with the pickup trucks in front, which belonged to Morales' convoy.
The night wind ripped at the Night Fury's mane. Caesar, with one hand on his hat and the other on the reins, let out an excited shout.
"Alas--"
Leaning forward, Caesar shouted into the wind, "Night Fury, accelerate!"
Night Fury and Caesar were of one mind; they immediately sped up and overtook several pickup trucks.
Morales drove his car, looked at the dashing Caesar, glanced down at his own bloated belly, and shook his head with a wry smile.
"Vice-captain, do you think we can ride horses too?"
In the passenger seat of Morales was a young white man, around twenty years old, who looked healthy and energetic.
Barrett gazed at Caesar's figure with longing.
Morales glanced back at him but didn't discourage him. "Once there are more horses on the ranch, we'll definitely have a chance to learn to ride, and maybe we'll even get a horse ourselves."
You'd better keep up the good work.
Barrett flashed a confident smile, patted his chest, and proudly assured, "Don't worry, Vice-Captain. I'll definitely kill a few more people today."
Listening to Barrett's assurance, Morales scratched his head, feeling that the assurance was rather strange.
Tite was also a very good rider, second only to the experienced Lloyd among the four, and she followed closely behind Lloyd.
Lloyd glanced back and yelled, "Colby, Ryan, you two need to go back and learn how to ride a horse!"
Young and impetuous, Colby gritted his teeth and brandished his whip, trying to catch up.
Ryan, however, remained unperturbed, leisurely trailing behind the horse caravan, keeping parallel to the pickup trucks.
In the ranch north of Caesar Ranch, several small wooden cabins stand side by side.
The house was filled with the sounds of snoring, rising and falling like a symphony.
Some beer bottles were rolling on the floor, and there were plates with leftover food on the table, indicating that they had a nice dinner last night.
Cliff's snoring suddenly stopped. He slowly sat up, dragging one shoe along, and leisurely walked out of the room.
His eyes were half-open, and he looked not fully awake. He yawned from time to time, lifted his shirt, and scratched his belly.
