Chapter 53
Reunion
They rushed out of the cowboy hut, each carrying a firearm. Even the usually composed Ryan couldn't help but swear.
"Fuck, it's those bastards again?"
Although Lloyd was old, his eyes were sharp. When he saw the long convoy come into view, he frowned in confusion. "It shouldn't be those bastards."
Colby turned his head, picked up his binoculars, and went to check the surrounding ranches. He returned shortly afterward and reported back to Lloyd.
"They shouldn't be their people. They were just staring blankly at us, just like us."
Lloyd felt relieved; at least they weren't on the same side as the enemy.
But then Lloyd's heart jumped again; the convoy was clearly heading in his direction.
Is this another problem?
Caesar, you've really dumped a mess on me. Where are you?
While muttering about Caesar, Lloyd's expression remained unchanged as he said to Ryan, "Take the gun, go back inside, find a hidden window, and be careful."
Ryan immediately understood what Lloyd was thinking, nodded seriously, picked up his weapon, and turned to go back into the house.
Ryan took a long gun with a sniper scope from the house and found a window where he could observe the contact between the two sides, and set up the gun.
Colby stayed close to Lloyd, watching the approaching convoy with a particularly unfriendly expression.
"Colby, do you really not like Tite?"
Suddenly, Lloyd looked straight ahead and asked.
"What?" Colby was a little confused. When he realized what he had heard, he looked at Lloyd with a "you're being presumptuous" expression.
Lloyd chuckled. "We don't know what will happen next, whether it's death or survival."
Colby calmed down, and his expression became somewhat sad.
"So, before I die, I really want to know the answer to this question." Lloyd gave Colby a teasing look, as if waiting for his answer.
Colby kept quiet and chose to ignore it.
The convoy stopped near the ranch's iron gate, emitting a dull, deflated sound.
"Let's go."
After waiting for a while, Lloyd stopped joking, strode forward, climbed over the iron gate, looked at the tall truck in front of him, and quietly waited for the goddess of fate to throw the dice.
I don't know if this is a blessing or a curse.
Colby's muscles were tense, his eyes fixed on the truck door, his fingers twitching slightly, ready to draw his gun at any moment.
The car door opened, and Caesar appeared.
"Lloyd, Colby, did you miss me?"
Caesar opened his arms and embraced Lloyd and Colby with a joyful smile.
Lloyd and Colby were clearly a little taken aback, and stiffly hugged Caesar.
When Lloyd saw Caesar's face clearly again, he realized what was happening and patted Caesar on the shoulder in surprise: "You're really back?"
"I'm really back."
Caesar turned his head to look at Colby and saw a bruise on Colby's face, clearly from a fight.
"Colby, what's going on?"
Caesar's gaze was hostile. He recalled the movement of the wooden fence he had just seen, which meant that part of the pasture grassland had been squeezed and occupied.
Colby took a deep breath: "I'll tell you later."
Caesar could only nod. Then he thought of Ryan again, but he couldn't see Ryan anywhere. His expression changed.
"Where's Ryan?"
"Oh, Ryan. He's fine, he's inside." Lloyd could tell what Caesar was thinking just by looking at his expression.
"We didn't know how this convoy came to be, so I told Ryan to go back inside and set up his gun."
Caesar nodded, both amused and exasperated.
Just then, Tite suddenly appeared from behind, rushed forward, and threw herself into Colby's arms.
Colby instinctively caught Tite and held her in his arms.
Tite looked up, her eyes sparkling beneath her pink hair, a happy smile playing on her lips.
"Colby, let me tell you. I did a lot of things on this trip. I killed a lot of walkers and saved a county sheriff..."
Once Tite started talking, he went on and on, leaving Colby completely bewildered.
Seeing the two of them like this, Caesar shook his head and chuckled, then said to Lloyd.
"Open the door first, then we'll drive the car in."
Colby then realized what was happening, and his hands slipped, causing Tite to slide to the ground and chase after Colby, talking incessantly.
"Hasn't he realized it yet?"
Lloyd pursed his lips and shook his head.
Lloyd then opened the iron gate.
With Lloyd's support now back in sight, cars drove into the ranch.
The residential area on the ranch was immediately filled with cars, leaving little space.
Caesar instructed Carol, "Carol, send some men to set up the tents first."
"Then we arranged for some women and children to stay in the cowboy cabin, where there were some single rooms for families to stay in."
"Each captain and vice-captain lives in a separate cabin. Understand?"
Carol nodded.
Caesar is separating the combat squad leaders from the others; better living conditions are what they deserve.
The ranch has limited living space. At the very center is Caesar's stone house, flanked by Rip's log cabin and some independent log cabins, as well as a cowboy cabin.
The cowboy cabin is large enough to accommodate more than ten people, and it has private rooms and the like.
Even so, there wasn't enough living space, and Carol needed someone to set up tents.
After Carroll received the order, Caesar first moved Jenner's experimental vehicle to a different location, driving it next to Jenner's detached cabin.
Then let Guillermo and the others stay with Jenner to protect her safety at all times.
At the same time, Guillermo can also defend against enemies that appear in this direction.
Caesar assigned Daryl and Mor's squads to defend the other side, while Caesar's own squad lived nearby to protect him.
"Daryl, take some men and go scout out the situation of those ranches in the vicinity."
After arranging accommodations for everyone, Caesar summoned Daryl and spoke to him.
Daryl nodded and turned to leave without saying another word.
"Wait." After stopping Daryl, Caesar continued, "If things don't look good, just surrender and wait for me to come and rescue you."
"Remember, your lives are the most precious thing. Don't fight a losing battle."
Daryl felt a warmth in his heart and nodded again, but this time his attitude was much gentler.
After Daryl left, Moore also came looking for him.
"Hey, boss. You sent my little brother to scout, what am I supposed to do?" Moore asked with a nonchalant smile on his face, swaying slightly.
Caesar looked at Mor with a wicked smile on his face.
"Don't worry. I'll definitely make sure you have plenty of work to do!"
