Chapter 5
Submission
Even if Caesar's words are true, Glenn should not react at all if he wants to avoid leaking information.
Even Jimmy can now tell that Glenn's companions are indeed at the quarry.
Glenn noticed the way the others were looking at him and immediately realized he had done something stupid.
Filled with remorse, he struggled to explain himself, but his mouth was still taped shut, and he couldn't speak.
Seeing Glenn's expression, Caesar found it amusing and still tore off the tape.
"My companion really isn't at the quarry. None of us have ever been to the quarry. You have to believe me."
The more Glenn spoke, the redder his face became. It was like trying to hide something obvious – the more he tried to explain, the worse it got.
Glenn gradually fell silent.
Caesar raised an eyebrow and began, "Isn't there a county sheriff named Sean in your camp, and a mother and son, Lori and Carl?"
Rick, who had been in standby mode, suddenly perked up and looked at Glenn with shining eyes.
He grabbed Glenn abruptly and shook him: "You've seen my wife and children? They're at the quarry?"
Rick had a smile on his face, but his eyes were filled with tears, like a desperate person who had finally found hope.
He cried out hoarsely, "Tell me!"
Glenn swallowed hard and nodded.
"Great! Lori, Carl, I've finally found you!"
Rick was overjoyed and wept, kneeling on the ground, laughing and crying at the same time.
Looking at this emotional stranger, Rip could empathize with him. When they first arrived in Atlanta, they had already gone to find the residence of Rip's girlfriend and Grandpa Jimmy.
There was no one at Rip's girlfriend's place, nor any bloodstains. Instead, there was a note saying she had gone to see Grandpa Jimmy.
Grandpa Jimmy's house was a complete mess, as if some thief had run over it.
Fortunately, no bloodstains or signs of violence were found.
Caesar patted Rip on the shoulder, reassuring her, "Your Bess isn't some fragile woman; she can smash a burly man's head with an ashtray."
"Hahaha." Rip burst out laughing. He was truly impressed by Beth's fearless demeanor.
"She's always been like this."
Caesar turned his head to look at Jimmy, who looked somewhat forlorn, and reached out to touch the boy's nape.
"Don't worry, your grandfather should be with Beth. They'll be fine! We'll definitely find them."
"Thank you, boss." Jimmy nodded firmly.
Rick's crying subsided, and he reached out to untie Glenn's ropes.
He was pushed away and rolled on the ground. He looked at Jimmy in confusion.
Jimmy declared righteously, "He's my prisoner now, and I have to keep an eye on him."
Rick understood that Jimmy was just an executor, and looked up at Caesar.
Caesar waved his hand: "Rick, we've only known each other for a short time, and I can't trust you guys yet. So, let's keep things under control."
Caesar's words were quite apt. Although he understood Rick and the others' character, Rip and the others needed time to get to know each other.
Circumstances dictate that Rick had no choice but to nod.
"Glenn, can you tell us where your companions are now?"
Caesar asked with a smile.
Glenn paused for a moment: "The quarry, huh?"
"No, no, I was talking about your companions who came out with you. You couldn't possibly have come out alone to find supplies for the camp, could you?"
Caesar understood what Glenn was thinking: he hoped to escape with Caesar's help and use them to draw away some of the walkers.
In this way, the exit route is opened, and the companions in the department store will realize it's time to leave.
"Let's go, stop dawdling. Lead the way!"
Glenn had no choice but to nod, his eyes fixed on the walkie-talkie on Jimmy's body.
That was found on him.
After untying Glenn's ropes, Jimmy pulled out his pistol, aimed it at Glenn, and pressed the cold muzzle against him.
Rick felt a pang of guilt, and opened his mouth but couldn't say anything.
The group traveled light, following Glenn as they walked between the buildings.
After walking for more than ten minutes, Glenn stopped.
Caesar looked up and saw that there was an alley at the back entrance of the department store.
The alley entrance was blocked by a large truck. You could vaguely see the zombies on the street outside the truck. There weren't many zombies; obviously, many of them had been attracted away by the commotion.
Glenn glanced at the three or four zombies in the alley, took two steps back, and said, "Give me the walkie-talkie, I'll contact my comrades to come and help us."
Jimmy glanced at Caesar, who walked past indifferently: "Keep an eye on the delivery guy."
Caesar took a small hand axe from his waist and strode forward.
Several zombies were quickly drawn into aggro and attacked with hoarse cries. The zombies were quite mobile; they could even jog.
Caesar dodged to the left, twisted his waist and swung his axe, the sharp blade smashing into the walker's face and slicing it open from the back of his head.
He stepped forward and kicked the other zombie, sending it crashing to the ground.
With a downward chop of the axe, the head of the approaching zombie was split open like a watermelon, and the axe stomped down on the zombie on the ground.
With fluid movements, he eliminated several zombies.
Glenn was dumbfounded by that skill!
Jimmy nudged Glenn: "Let's go! Stop dawdling!"
Glenn stepped over several zombies, his feet inevitably getting covered in bits of flesh, and a chill ran down his spine.
Caesar went to the back door first and gestured for Glenn, who was coming forward, to knock.
Glenn took a deep breath and tapped lightly with his hand.
The sound of the iron gate was dull and deep; after knocking many times, there was no response.
Glenn spoke up: "It's me, Glenn."
Finally, there was an answer—a young female voice.
"Glenn? Why aren't you talking to... Waaah!"
Before she could speak, the woman's mouth was covered, and the people inside clearly realized something was wrong.
Caesar raised an eyebrow; it seemed he had been seen through.
He immediately stopped hiding his identity and said, "Hello, we are survivors from another camp. We came to Atlanta to find supplies."
"We rescued a man, a county sheriff from Kings County, who had a colleague named Sean."
"And then? We ran into this delivery guy, and after he heard about this, he very kindly pulled us over."
Glenn was about to retort when he heard this, but Jimmy's pistol pressed against his waist, and he swallowed his anger.
Caesar asked with a smile, "By the way, what's your name, delivery guy?"
"Glen, just call me Glenn," Glenn replied, gripping the shoulder straps of his backpack with both hands.
"Okay, Glenn, Glenn invited us over."
After he finished speaking, there was still no movement from inside the iron gate. Rip glanced at Caesar, signaling whether they should force their way in.
Caesar raised his hand to stop him and whispered, "Calm down, they're not bad people."
Glenn nervously rubbed his hands together, praying that his companion would open the door quickly. He didn't want his companion to lose his life because he had brought these people with him.
