Chapter 64
Horus
"He threatened that if we didn't comply, he would send people to kill us."
Beth slammed his hand on the table in front of old man Leon, causing a cup to roll off the table with a loud thud.
Old man Leon could feel the anger in the woman's words behind him, and he was worried that Beth might hit him in the heat of the moment.
So, old man Leon tilted his head, trying to ask his subordinates for help with his eyes.
But as soon as he turned his head, Beth came close to him, startling the old man Leon so much that he clenched his fist.
"Tell me, should we be angry?"
"Should we make a move? Would it be a problem to kill that bastard Teddy and a few of his men?"
Old man Leon took a deep breath.
To be honest, he believed that Teddy was capable of doing such a stupid thing. In his eyes, Teddy was a rotten and stupid piece of trash. If his father hadn't entrusted him with this responsibility, he would have strangled Teddy long ago.
What could old man Leon do but accept his fate?
Caesar watched as the old man Leon slowly nodded, and heard him say, "Teddy does indeed have a serious problem, and our Leon Ranch accepts it."
Seeing that old man Leon had given in, Beth walked back to sit down next to Caesar. The two looked at each other and Beth saw the approval in Caesar's eyes.
"However," old man Leon raised his head, his expression calm, "you just mentioned too many numbers; I can only give you a portion."
Caesar already knew he wouldn't agree to such an outrageous price.
"First, give me the highest price your ranch can afford," Caesar said calmly.
Old man Leon tensed slightly, leaned forward to look at Caesar, and held up one finger: "I can only provide enough rations for thirty people for one month."
Caesar nodded, signaling for old man Leon to continue.
"Ten head of cattle and ten head of sheep... That's all I can offer. Most of them haven't grown up yet, so I can't give you many more." After saying this, old man Leon leaned back in his chair. He had already stated his full price.
Caesar did not immediately agree, but turned to look at Beth.
Beth looked serious and thought for a long time before saying in a reluctant tone, "Well, if that's the case, then we'll just have to accept it."
"The men at Buffalo Pass should be replaced by ours," Caesar suddenly said.
"No way." Old Man Leon opened his eyes. "Half for each of us."
"Oh well."
Caesar accepted it, seemingly with no other choice.
However, Caesar's tightly clenched fists betrayed his inner joy; he had managed to extort so much so quickly.
Although it's not much for Caesar Ranch's reserves.
But if it's free, why not take it?
After the negotiations ended, the two sides started chatting about everyday matters and did not discuss any issues such as forming an alliance.
Old Man Leon would occasionally ask Caesar if his ranch had several trucks and if they could trade one or two with them.
Caesar, of course, immediately blocked it.
Both sides were probing each other, exploring each other's situation back and forth.
At that moment, a burly man with blond hair and blue eyes appeared at the door of the conference room, followed by a pair of bald twins.
The blond, blue-eyed strongman was Horus. He walked into the conference room with a hearty laugh, opened his arms wide, bent down and hugged old man Leon, and greeted him warmly.
"Leon, it's been so long! I've missed you terribly."
Old man Leon laughed heartily as well, as if the two were truly close friends despite their age difference. "Oh dear, I'm getting old and can't move around much anymore. Why don't you come to visit me more often?"
"I have a group of people working under me, and I have to manage the ranch well so that everyone can survive."
As he spoke, Horus glanced at Caesar beside him, his mouth agape in surprise, "You are... Caesar?"
Caesar stood up; his 1.95-meter height and imposing aura made Horus squint.
"Long time no see, Caesar." Horus extended his hand and shook hands with Caesar, his eyes scanning Caesar. "You've changed so much, I almost didn't recognize you."
Caesar raised the corners of his mouth slightly, ignoring Horus's words, and simply asked, "Why is Horus here today?"
Why not come earlier or later? Come while Caesar and old man Leon are negotiating.
Caesar knew that when the caravan returned to Caesar Ranch, the commotion would be so great that the surrounding ranches would have noticed it.
As the two most powerful forces in Black Pine Valley, there's no reason why they wouldn't know some of the details.
They must have seen how much stronger I am now and were worried that I might form an alliance with old man Leon, so they came to investigate.
After Caesar had made a clear assessment in his mind, his gaze toward Horus also carried a hint of inquiry.
He took some of the old man Leon's things, and he also wanted some of Horus's things.
Before Caesar could make any plans, Horus led his men out of the meeting room, as if he really was just there for a visit.
Caesar didn't mind, and just chatted casually with old man Leon.
The two leaders chatted together, and Morales and the others didn't need to stay with them. With the old man Leon's permission, Andrea and the others were allowed to do their own thing.
After leaving the meeting room, Andrea went alone to a small grove of trees in Leon Ranch.
The forest was full of lush green trees and beautiful flowers, but Andrea's restless mood prevented her from appreciating any of it.
She stepped forward and casually trampled a patch of flowers and grass, impatiently destroying some of them.
Andrea sat on the grass, leaning against a big tree, looking up at the sky, and muttered a complaint under her breath.
"Is Caesar out of his mind? Why did he bring me here for no reason?"
"And Amy..."
I wanted to talk about Amy, but upon closer reflection, Amy didn't do anything.
Andrea could only vent all her anger on Caesar, muttering and cursing him under her breath.
Not far from the meeting room, Horus saw Andrea heading into the woods alone. A sudden idea struck him, and he turned to the bald twins and gave them an order:
"You take the rest of the people and go find Caesar's gang for a chat. Just talk casually, you can have some wine and meat."
"Get me some intelligence; I need to know anything about Caesar's Ranch."
For Horus, the valley of black pines was a separate territory for him and the old man Leon, where they kept to themselves and did not interfere with each other.
Now that Caesar's army is strong and powerful, like a dragon crossing the river, Horus feels a sense of crisis and is eager to learn everything about Caesar's ranch.
This is why he rushed to Leon Ranch.
Horus tidied himself up a bit, his brown cowboy hat, slightly messy stubble, and shirt with two buttons undone gave him the air of a mature man.
Horus nodded in satisfaction and followed Andrea.
As Andrea grumbled in the woods, Horus slowly approached her.
