Chapter 92
Fairness
As soon as the sack was opened, a stench of decay wafted out, and a few flying insects flew out as well.
Caesar looked up and saw several zombie heads huddled together, their mouths agape.
Daryl, Mohr, and other members of the combat squad were relatively resistant to this scene, and their expressions remained unchanged.
Caesar waved his hand and said, "Hurry up and put it away."
Ford then closed the sack and waited quietly for Caesar to give orders.
Caesar didn't intend to leave Ford hanging. He stood up and extended his palm. "Welcome to the ranch."
Ford looked surprised and quickly reached out to shake his hand.
After shaking hands, Caesar said to Daryl, "Help me find a place to dispose of these heads."
"Let's give Ford and his team a tour while we're at it."
"Okay." Daryl nodded, knowing that there was an element of surveillance involved.
"Hello, hello." Ford was very friendly, smiling like a chrysanthemum, and nodded repeatedly to Daryl.
Daryl wasn't used to such a warm greeting, and just nodded with a straight face.
After briefly confirming the relocation time, Caesar took his leave and left the meeting room.
Moore patted his younger brother on the shoulder. "Let's go!"
Moore swaggered out of the meeting room, wobbled onto a horse, and then disappeared into someone's bed.
Daryl slung his crossbow over his shoulder and led Ford and his men forward.
The road surface is still a gravel road, but thanks to Jacques's planning, it has been widened considerably, enough for four cars to drive side by side.
Daryl pointed to the road and said, "These roads are all newly built."
Ford nodded, seemingly understanding, but he didn't understand why these roads needed to be built.
Wayne, however, examined the gravel road carefully. It was indeed newly built and spacious enough to facilitate the lives of the town's residents as well as the support of the combat squad.
As expected of Caesar's Ranch.
Just from the expansion of the gravel road, Wayne knew that Caesar was definitely not some short-sighted good-for-nothing who only cared about frantically expanding his territory.
Daryl wasn't very eloquent; he just sullenly led the group forward.
The buildings surrounding the council hall were temporary structures built before the town's development plan was finalized, solely to house the first group of people who had just arrived at the ranch.
Therefore, the buildings were not well-planned in terms of spacing, and the buildings were neither aesthetically pleasing nor sturdy.
After walking a distance, Ford and his team noticed that the surrounding buildings had suddenly changed.
It's like a small wooden cabin in the countryside. It doesn't matter if it's beautiful or sturdy, as long as it's habitable, it's fine. It's like building blocks that are just randomly assembled.
Although some of these buildings are still under construction, it is clear that they all share a unified style, being wooden houses with a certain design, making them both beautiful and practical.
The distance between each house is fixed, and they are all located on both sides of the road, making transportation very convenient.
Daryl said dryly, "These are all Jacques' designs."
"She used to work for the Atlanta Planning Department and is skilled at planning these kinds of constructions."
"Once your people move here, there will most likely be no houses to live in for the time being. There will be no vacant houses until the new houses are built."
Ford was stunned, nodding blankly.
He hadn't expected this at all. He thought Caesar just wanted to rule the entire Black Pine Valley, so that he could not only survive in the apocalypse but also have women on both sides and enjoy life to the fullest.
It seems Caesar has grand ambitions; even Blackpine Valley may not be enough to satisfy them.
Ford felt his blood boil at the thought of this. Before the apocalypse, he could only be a cowboy doing hard labor and smelling terrible.
The apocalypse has arrived, and the thought of following a charismatic leader and building a career fills him with immense excitement.
Not only Ford, but several of his close associates were also stunned.
The group walked along the gravel road, while nearby residents were busy carrying timber or building materials for construction.
There were many people, and everyone had their own things to do. No one was slacking off, and smiles unconsciously appeared on their faces. When they looked up at the wooden houses that were not yet built, their eyes shone with light.
Jacques walked the streets with a notebook and a pen, checking the construction status of each building and recording it in the notebook. If he noticed anything amiss, he would quickly communicate with the residents of the building.
Carroll also led a group of people, carrying some drinks and snacks, and walked over to the working residents, handing them supplies.
The whole scene looked even warmer and more harmonious than before the apocalypse.
Daryl began slowly, saying, "These are all houses that everyone lives in, and everyone wants them to be completed and moved into as soon as possible."
"You built your own houses, but we will provide some assistance."
Further out, beyond this area of buildings, lies a vast expanse of grassland.
Hundreds of cattle and sheep bleated as cowboys on horseback drove them along.
Not far away, there are newly built farms.
The farm is separated by a wooden fence, and inside are various vegetables; staple foods and fruits have not yet been planted.
No crops have grown on the farmland yet, only some green seedlings.
After just over an hour's visit, Ford and his team were already filled with longing and anticipation for Caesars Ranch.
Daryl escorted the group to the ranch gate and said to them, "Tomorrow, we'll come in a truck to help you move."
"You need to go back and inform your residents."
"I understand." Ford nodded, smiling as he mounted his horse.
The group quickly disappeared from sight.
A day later, Daryl and the others drove their truck to Leon Ranch.
A group of people, traveling in various vehicles or on horseback, carrying large and small bags, followed behind a heavy truck and arrived at Caesar Ranch.
The ranch gates were open, and a crowd was gathered at the front.
Caesar stood at the front of the crowd, smiling as he greeted his new companions.
Ford and his confidants rode ahead on horseback. As soon as he saw Caesar, he dismounted and scurried over to him.
"Boss, I've brought everyone with me."
As he spoke, Ford raised his hand to show Caesar the new residents.
The crowd stopped in front, their eyes fixed on Caesar, their gazes filled with a mixture of fear and anticipation for the future.
The high-level decision-making changes had little to do with them; in fact, they were only notified at the last minute after everything was over.
They had no right to resist and could only pray that the future rancher would be kind.
Caesar smiled and opened his arms wide. "Welcome everyone to my ranch."
"Now that you've all joined my ranch, I'll treat you all like family."
"Our ranch doesn't practice a system of communal dining. We distribute contribution points based on each person's labor, and these points can be exchanged for certain goods in the ranch's official market."
"Believe me, the most important thing about my ranch is fairness, and you will definitely be able to find peace of life here again."
