Chapter 46

Echoes

A few days later, the countdown to the CDC explosion was coming to an end.

Four more trucks were added to the convoy, making it increasingly bulky, and the supplies and food also increased.

Dr. Jenner's experimental equipment filled an entire truck; in fact, if all of Dr. Jenner's experimental equipment were to be taken away, one truck would be far from enough.

However, many of the CDC's devices are not portable, such as the brain imaging system, which is the device shown to Rick and his team that can display brain activity, and also the V.

After several days of effort, Dr. Jenner and his team managed to convert the truck into a mobile laboratory.

It is equipped with a diesel generator, air conditioner, clean workbench, microscope, centrifuge, constant temperature water bath, portable PCR instrument...

While it doesn't meet all of Dr. Jenner's needs, it's usable, albeit barely.

In return, Caesar received all the food and supplies from the CDC. The food was diverse, including many canned foods suitable for long-term storage, as well as a lot of frozen meat and eggs.

Caesar was worried that the meat and eggs would be difficult to store, so he allowed everyone in the army to eat as much as they wanted in the next few days, and they quickly finished off the meat and eggs.

The supplies include tents, sleeping bags, battery packs, and other items that will make life better and more convenient for the convoy members.

Jenner opened the CDC's armory and gave all the guns inside to Caesar.

The armory indeed had a great many guns and cannons, enough to arm a team of fifty men. There were thirty or forty carbines, about ten light machine guns, three machine guns, two grenade launchers, and several rocket launchers.

It's fair to say that these weapons instantly made Caesar's team incredibly wealthy.

At that moment, Caesar's eyes gleamed as he looked at the armory.

With these firearms, Caesar had no worries about how to conquer the entire Blackpine Valley, and he couldn't even imagine how he could lose.

Let alone coercion or verbal negotiation, Caesar can now even use overwhelming force.

It wouldn't be an exaggeration for Caesar to call himself a warlord of the end times.

During his stay at the CDC, Caesar also organized several parties, with unlimited drinks and food. Apart from not being allowed to waste food, everyone was satisfied.

Caesar also spoke with each of Guillermo and the others, talking until his throat was dry. He managed to have a simple heart-to-heart talk with them, which instilled in them a basic level of loyalty to him.

Over the course of a few days, Guillermo and his team members attended parties and developed much better relationships with the rest of the group.

Caesar also trusted Guillermo, allowing him to lead ten able-bodied men to form a fighting squad.

Glenn and Jimmy's team also gained more members. Although they didn't have ten, it was enough. Glenn and Jimmy were both captains, and Caesar also let Rick join them.

Glenn knew that Rick was about to join his team and wanted to give up his position as captain, but Caesar gave him a severe scolding.

Glenn and Jimmy have made tremendous contributions to the food wholesale market, and Caesar will never disregard the team's heroes just because Rick has joined.

creak-

The garage door opened, and Rip drove his truck out first.

A few zombies lingered in front of the door, but were instantly knocked away, like tomatoes shattering on the concrete.

The massive spiked ram had barely stepped outside when it was stained with black and red blood.

Following closely behind were two motorcycles and several modified pickup trucks. The newly acquired firepower made the combatants extremely excited, and they all took out their guns and unleashed their firepower on the surviving zombies nearby.

The barrage of bullets rained down on several zombies, each of which fell to the ground with at least a hundred bullets inside it.

Caesar glanced out the window and frowned. "These little brats really don't treat bullets like bullets."

"Moore, tell these brats to behave themselves and conserve ammunition."

Moore rode his motorcycle, gave an OK sign, and then slowed down to approach the pickup trucks.

Caesar glanced at the combatants in the pickup trucks in the rearview mirror. They looked like wilted eggplants, heads bowed listlessly, enduring Moore's verbal attacks.

The dashing Daryl, holding his newly acquired military crossbow, couldn't resist testing it out everywhere. He was no longer so frugal with his bolts, and every corpse he saw along the way was hit by an arrow.

Caesar glanced at it; he didn't know if it was dead before, but now it was definitely dead.

All the trucks at the back of the convoy exited the garage, with a few off-road vehicles trailing behind – those were Guillermo's convoy.

The last truck was Jenner's experimental vehicle. When he entrusted the task of maintaining the experimental vehicle to Guillermo, he was extremely excited and immediately promised that the experimental vehicle would not be damaged before he died.

At that moment, Caesar waved his hand repeatedly and solemnly instructed, "The experimental vehicle is not important. Those devices are expensive and rare, but they are far less important than Jenner. Dr. Jenner is the most important."

"In the event of an accident, if the experimental vehicle cannot be saved, get Jenner away from danger immediately."

Guillermo made a man's promise.

Looking away, Caesar patted the center console and said to Rip, "Alright, let's go home!"

The gasoline supplied by the lead truck's fuel tank is burned and converted into powerful energy, propelling the truck forward with a roar.

The convoy immediately picked up speed.

Moore stopped scolding and, with Pikachu behind him, began clearing away the zombies charging from both sides to protect the non-combatants in the middle.

The convoy rumbled forward, arriving at the parking lot where they had just stopped in Atlanta.

After everyone had dinner, a campfire was lit.

Caesar stood on top of the truck and said to Jenner beside him, "We can begin."

Jenner nodded and took out a small remote control. The remote control had no extra buttons, only a red button in the middle.

Jenner extended the antenna and pressed the button.

At the CDC, several kilometers away, the radio began playing beautiful country music, the melodious singing amplified to almost cover the entire city of Atlanta.

The lights on the walls of the CDC were also turned on, piercing into the deep darkness and standing out conspicuously in the darkening sky.

The garage door, the narrow little door, and even the usually tightly closed main door were all open, like a trap to lure prey.

The area around the CDC, which had been cleared, was once again flooded with zombies from other areas.

They staggered along, but resolutely marched toward the CDC.

The survivors in Atlanta, looking at the light under the black sky and hearing the music they hadn't heard in a long time, felt a surge of excitement.

Upon seeing the zombies rushing downstairs, he quickly hid himself, covering his mouth to avoid making any noise that might attract the zombies' attention.
