Chapter 29
The Opportunity Has Arrived
After waiting a while and not feeling any pain, Wayne opened his eyes.
It was discovered that Moore had only raised the machete but hadn't actually struck it.
The surrounding Moore teammates burst into laughter, their eyes saying nothing but, "You coward!"
Wayne's face turned red, as did Hugh's.
Moore then realized that Wayne and Hugh were telling the truth; otherwise, Wayne's pleas for mercy would have only made him believe that Wayne shouldn't have lied.
"What should we do? Should we go in?" one of the team members asked.
The number of zombies in the market is enormous; enough to wipe out Glenn's squad, it could wipe out Moore's squad as well.
Daryl didn't say anything, and turned to walk towards the market.
Moore frowned, stepped forward and pulled Daryl back. "I didn't say I wouldn't save him."
Daryl turned to Mor, "We promised Caesar we would support Glenn."
Moore knew Daryl was getting stubborn and he couldn't argue with him directly. "We promised, and I will keep my word."
"But what if Glenn and the others hadn't gotten into trouble?"
Daryl asked, puzzled, "What do you mean?"
Seeing that Daryl had been appeased, Moore continued, "You all know that walkers' attention can be diverted."
"You have two cooked pieces of meat in front of you, and a portion of raw, unprocessed meat in front of you. Which would you choose?"
One team member said, "Of course, it's cooked meat."
"That's right, the same goes for walkers. And the attraction of a disemboweled human is far greater to them than a whole human."
Moore explained, "So, Glenn and Jimmy are very likely still alive. The walkers are definitely feasting, and many of them won't let go until they're all gone."
After figuring it out, Daryl wasn't so anxious anymore.
"Even if they are still alive, they probably won't last much longer."
"You have to trust that dragon kid and the cowboy kid. They have walkie-talkies, so anything can definitely get through."
"He's of Korean descent," Daryl suddenly retorted.
Moore nodded helplessly: "Okay, okay, Korean."
After calming Daryl down, Moore looked at his men and waved them to continue their work.
As for Hugh and Wayne, they were handcuffed together and thrown into a pickup truck.
Just as Daryl was waiting anxiously, Glenn's panting came through the walkie-talkie.
"Caesar, I... I've found the market's storage place!"
"There's a lot of food inside. It must have just been delivered recently, and not much has been sold yet."
Upon hearing Glenn's voice, Daryl's expression relaxed, and a smile spread across his face.
Moore glanced at Daryl, noticed the smile on his lips, and couldn't help but smile back.
"What a goofy, soft-hearted guy, bro!"
……
Caesar and the others rested on the platform for a long time.
The zombies below continued to stretch their claws upwards, but they couldn't catch any meat.
Caesar left two people on the platform and led the rest of the men up to the rooftop of the building.
Standing on the rooftop, Caesar took out his telescope and surveyed the surrounding streets.
Fortunately, there weren't many zombies on the surrounding streets, so even if all the zombies were lured to the market, they could be easily killed.
Caesar nodded in satisfaction: "There are so few walkers. I wonder where the others went!"
Just then, Caesar's ears twitched as he heard the booming sound of gunfire.
"Boss, something's up!"
At this moment, T noticed something was wrong and pointed to a spot.
Standing on the rooftop, you can see fireballs rising, clearly indicating that someone is launching rockets.
Caesar strode over and raised his telescope to look.
In the distance, several fully armed off-road vehicles could be seen speeding forward on the street.
Their weapons were sophisticated, and bullets were fired indiscriminately. The leader stood there, firing grenade launchers from time to time.
Every grenade fired will inevitably cause an explosion.
In an instant, the entire city of Atlanta was in an uproar, with countless zombies beginning to riot.
Caesar had excellent eyesight, and when he finally saw the man standing there firing the grenade, he was stunned.
Martinez?
How could it be Martinez?
Caesar frowned deeply as he tried to recall the memories in his mind.
He quickly realized that he hadn't misread it.
The governor and his men were raiders who roamed the area around Atlanta. In some scenes cut from the original series, the sanatorium was destroyed by the raiders.
Some speculate that it was done by the governor and others.
Some speculate that it was done by other raiders.
Caesar realized that Martinez might be chasing after the people from the sanatorium.
Thinking of this, Caesar's gaze deepened.
Eliminating a portion of the governor's forces is quite an attractive temptation.
Moreover, the governor's men were generally very wealthy, so eliminating them would provide a large amount of weapons and food.
Should we take action? Or should we take action?
This is such a difficult choice!
Caesar's lips curled slightly. He couldn't be too late; if he was, all those he had saved would be dead.
They would have to bear the brunt of the firepower alone.
Just then, Caesar's walkie-talkie, which was hanging on his waist, made a sound.
"Caesar, I... I've found the market's storage place!"
"There's a lot of food inside. It must have just been delivered recently, and not much has been sold yet."
Caesar's face lit up with joy, and he picked up the walkie-talkie to reply.
"Good that you've found the location. How's things going on your end, Glenn?"
"The market is full of zombies, it's not easy to clean up."
Huh? Are there that many zombies?
"Did you come in from the outside?"
"No, there are a lot of zombies in the market."
Caesar slapped his forehead. No wonder there were so many zombies in the square. I was wondering why the number of zombies was wrong. I thought I was lucky.
Caesar glanced at Martinez and his men, who were still firing in the distance, and an idea popped into his head.
"Hey, Daryl, Mor. I have a task for you!"
Caesar issued a series of commands into the walkie-talkie, and with each command, the corners of Caesar's mouth turned up higher and higher.
……
Martinez stood on the convertible SUV, holding the door with one hand and a grenade launcher in the other, firing at the vehicles in front of him.
One grenade after another sent the enemy fleeing in terror.
Seeing the enemy's disheveled state, Martinez burst into laughter, and his men joined in with wild laughter.
Martinez, who rarely leads the team himself, was filled with excitement.
Not to mention they encountered a large fish, which had some medical supplies and a considerable amount of food.
Once they're all killed, the loot will be enough for Woodbury to throw a party.
The thought of several beautiful women coming to him at the party, vying for his attention, only fueled Martinez's growing excitement.
Seeing the enemy ahead round a bend, Martinez shouted, "Stay close! Stick to them!"
"Kill them all, and their food and medicine will be ours. Back in Woodbury, with plenty of food, we won't have to worry about finding girls!"
Stimulated by the woman, many of the subordinates screamed and the driver slammed on the gas.
