Chapter 98

First Meeting with Morgan

I compared the person to the one I remembered.

Caesar confirmed it was Morgan.

Caesar released the two men. "You two go and keep an eye on Daryl. When you return, I want to know what Daryl is up to."

Rip and Glenn exchanged a glance, and Glenn noticed Morgan standing to the side.

Knowing that Caesar wanted to understand Morgan, he pulled Rip into the house, saying, "Don't worry, we'll find out."

The two were clearly very curious about Daryl's secret, and the way they ran forward looked a bit like a badger sneaking a melon.

Caesar walked up to Morgan and extended his hand: "Hello, I am Caesar."

Morgan grasped Caesar's hand somewhat nervously, nodding repeatedly: "Hello, boss, my name is Morgan."

"It's like this." After Caesar released his grip, he simply stated his purpose, "I learned from Glenn that you recruited Glenn's squad in King County."

"Uh...yes, I heard you have a settlement. My son and I have been wandering around, so we want to find a place to settle down."

Morgan explained in as much detail as possible.

He didn't know what Caesar wanted to know, but simply indicated that he posed no threat, was a good person, and would not cause any damage to the ranch.

Caesar walked forward, with Morgan beside him.

"It's not that I think you'll cause any damage or harm to the ranch; I just want to know about your past."

Caesar raised an eyebrow and looked into Morgan's eyes. "I heard that your wife has become a zombie."

Caesar was testing him, but Morgan didn't try to hide it much; his eyes held an unconcealable sadness and reminiscence.

"My wife and I contracted the virus on our way to Atlanta, and then we stayed in King County." Morgan always appeared strong in front of his son, Dwyane.

Now he bent over, looking exhausted, and tears welled up in his eyes.

Caesar did not offer any words of comfort to Morgan, who was an adult and capable of regulating his own emotions.

Morgan was caught up in his emotions for a few minutes before gradually calming down. He stood up, looked at Caesar, and said apologetically, "Sorry, boss."

"It's alright, it's alright." Caesar looked directly at Morgan, then smiled and patted Morgan's shoulder reassuringly, "In the apocalypse, almost everyone will encounter something like this."

"But you still have Dwyane. He needs his father very much. You can talk to Dwyane. After all, you lost your wife, and he lost his mother."

Morgan was visibly taken aback. Since his wife's passing, he seemed to have lost a part of his soul, mechanically caring for Dwyane while indulging in his own emotions and ignoring Dwyane's feelings.

Thinking about how Dwyane often cried to him, he felt pained as he listened, realizing he had completely failed in his duties as a father.

"Boss, thank you." Morgan felt a pang of guilt for having wronged Jenny and Dwyane, and said gratefully to Caesar.

"If it weren't for you, I would be..."

Caesar raised his hand to interrupt Morgan, "You are part of our town, and you are also part of the combat squad. You are willing to risk your life to complete combat missions."

"I'm happy to be able to help you."

Caesar's words were very eloquent, and Morgan was so moved that tears welled up in his eyes.

After a few more casual words, Caesar dismissed Morgan.

Watching Morgan's retreating figure, Caesar stroked his chin.

He now understands Morgan's state: a responsible man who is constantly in a state of guilt.

She wanted to give everything for her child.

No wonder Dwyane went insane after being bitten to death by his wife.

However, now that Caesar has ascertained the extent of Morgan's danger, he can finally relax.

Well, if that's the case, why not do a psychological assessment?

Caesar's eyes lit up. Yes, after the apocalypse, most people developed serious psychological problems, including some madmen and people who wanted to destroy the world.

They want to take revenge on the innocent people around them, and there are even cannibals.

Such psychological problems often require professionals to determine whether a person will cause harm to those around them.

Therefore, Caesar needs a mental health expert to assess the mental health of everyone in the town.

Having made up his mind, Caesar walked toward the house.

Daryl, followed by two tagalongs, walked out of the house with a dark expression, and bumped into Caesar.

Daryl looked up and saw Caesar. Looking back at the two men behind him, he immediately knew they were acting on Caesar's orders. He walked toward his motorcycle with a sour expression.

Caesar raised an eyebrow at Rip and Glenn. "So, you two discovered something?"

Rip shook his head.

Glenn shrugged and said, "I think Daryl was looking for something, but he couldn't find it."

Caesar nodded, but didn't press Daryl for details.

After Morales made arrangements with the people from several ranches, he sent a vehicle with a few people, loaded with all the food from Horus Ranch and some valuable items, to Caesar Ranch.

Afterwards, as the town's population grows, the area will naturally be renovated so that cowboys can rest while herding cattle and sheep.

Caesar got into the pickup truck, rolled down the window, and looked at Daryl, who was wearing goggles beside him: "Are you still coming with us?"

Daryl nodded.

Caesar thought for a moment and said, "If you're looking for something, I think you can look outside Black Pine Valley."

"Once things are settled in the valley, we'll need to go outside to gather supplies, recruit talent, and search for information. By then, your chances of finding things should be much higher."

Upon hearing this, Daryl's glasses lit up.

Since dealing with Horus Ranch and Leon Ranch, he hasn't had much to do, mainly searching for walkers in the valley and trying to eliminate them all.

It was so boring that Daryl still wanted to go outside for a walk.

"Don't worry, we'll take care of these ranches soon."

Caesar waved the list in his hand.

The names of the ranches on the list were crossed off one by one; under the iron fist of force, almost all the ranches succumbed.

Of course, there were also some reckless ranches that wanted to fight Caesar and his men.

A rocket launcher was fired, leveling the ranch's warehouse to the ground. In the blink of an eye, everyone on the ranch was dead.

Caesar was not a soft-hearted man; he would not let them become his troubles.

After these ranches were wiped out, there was only one voice in the entire valley: the voice of Caesar.

In the following days, Caesar led the ranch's combat squad on a constant scramble outside, using loudspeakers and other items to lure the zombies out of the valley.

Then kill the walkers one by one.

Soon, it became difficult to find a single zombie in the valley.

The weather was clear and cloudless that day.
