Chapter 51

Teddy

Hershel, dressed in overalls suitable for farming, had a ruddy complexion and a furrowed brow as he looked at the convoy on the highway in the distance.

The convoy roared past, and several trucks could be seen in the middle of it, with the lead truck sporting a menacing ram.

There were many pickup trucks surrounding the area, with their windows open, revealing soldiers inside, each holding a gun and looking at them with fierce eyes.

Hershel was nervous; his hands, holding the shovel, were slightly sweaty. He didn't make any rash moves, remaining standing in one position, praying that the other party would leave unharmed.

Maggie and Beth, his two daughters, stood beside him, watching the convoy with tense expressions.

The convoy quickly disappeared from sight. Hershel breathed a sigh of relief, raised his hand to wipe his forehead, and found that it was covered in sweat.

"Dad," Maggie turned to Hershel, "they're not coming back, are they?"

Hershel opened his mouth, trying to reassure Maggie that they wouldn't come back, but everyone knew it was unrealistic.

Hershel didn't answer, but walked into the house and left Otis with a comment.

"Get your shotgun ready."

Back in his room, Hershel rummaged through everything and found a silver pistol. A sharp glint flashed across his aged face.

……

After passing Herschel's farm, you'll be very close to Black Pine Valley.

Within a few tens of minutes, the convoy arrived at the Bison Pass.

The once-open entrance and exit of the Bison Pass have been blocked by several sturdy abandoned vehicles.

There weren't many vehicles; they could barely block the entrance and exit, and there were even small gaps that allowed zombies to get in.

Several people were standing on top of the vehicle.

The leader was a cocky thug, wearing a cowboy hat, thin, and with a fierce face.

Caesar remembered him; his name was Teddy, and he was one of old man Leon's men, with a terrible reputation in Blackpine Valley.

He was a gambler and alcoholic, and often robbed others on the street. After being entrapped in the valley, he became much more obedient.

It seems they've forgotten the lessons of the past.

Teddy's greedy eyes scanned every vehicle, lingering longest on the large truck.

When Teddy saw Caesar getting out of the lead truck, his eyes lit up and a smile crept onto his lips.

"Hey, Caesar. I didn't expect you to be doing so well after all this time."

"Hmm, I thought you were dead, Teddy." Caesar didn't give Teddy any face and spoke sarcastically.

"After all, a petty thief like you almost had your hand chopped off back then. If it weren't for the rule of law at the time, and old man Leon protecting you, do you think you would have survived?"

Cowboys are a group of people who don't care much about legal constraints. Facing the vast world every day, they only care about their own lives and physical and mental well-being.

An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.

If someone kills someone they have a grudge against, they throw the body onto the mountainside, and the next day it will be picked up and eaten by animals.

Teddy felt as if his last shred of modesty had been stripped away; his blood rushed to his head, and his face turned as red as blood. He angrily pulled out his gun and aimed it at Caesar.

The moment he drew his gun, countless guns were simultaneously aimed at Teddy, especially one with a red dot aimed at Teddy's forehead.

Immediately, Teddy's men frantically drew their guns and confronted Caesar and his men.

At this moment, Teddy raised his hands, signaling his subordinates not to act rashly.

"Boss, they look tough. Should we put down our guns?" A clueless henchman leaned over.

Then, Teddy slapped the henchman on the head. The henchman turned around, saw the red dot between Teddy's eyebrows, and immediately became obedient, putting down his gun first.

That's hilarious! What if Teddy gets killed and the next one aims at you?!

Several henchmen quickly lowered their guns, and even Teddy put his gun away, his anger turning to joy. "Caesar, you're doing really well now."

"Boss Leon is not the same as before. He has expanded several times and now has more than twenty men under his command. They are all young and strong, much stronger than your team."

At this point, Teddy glanced at the women in the convoy and licked his lips: "Your group has a lot of women and children; they're just a burden."

"Besides, this Bison Pass was built by Boss Leon with his own manpower. If we want you to pass through, we'll need to pay a toll. Is that alright?"

Caesar thought this made sense; they had originally wanted to seal off the Bison Pass to prevent the zombies from continuing to enter the valley.

However, due to a lack of materials, the matter had to be put on hold.

Now that someone has repaired it, asking for some supplies isn't unreasonable.

Caesar nodded, signaling Teddy to continue.

Teddy didn't continue speaking, but pointed to the red dot between his eyebrows, which was still there, showing no sign of letting it go.

Caesar understood what he meant, raised his hand, and the team member who had raised the sniper rifle turned off the infrared, but the muzzle did not move at all.

The moment the red dot disappeared, Teddy felt as if he had been relieved of a burden, and his whole body felt much more relaxed. Seeing that Caesar was easy to talk to, his eyes gleamed with even more greed.

Teddy immediately ordered three trucks and said without any politeness, "Give me all three trucks, along with everything inside, and I'll let you in."

Caesar turned his head and saw a truck loaded with staple foods from the market, another with canned goods and other food from the CDC that were easy to store, and yet another with a lot of guns.

"Fuck, this guy is asking for the moon." Andrea stood in the crowd, looking at the sleazy guy above, her eyes practically spitting fire with anger.

A murmur arose from the crowd, filled with angry curses, disdain, and a hint of worry directed at Teddy.

Wow, Teddy's luck is pretty good.

Caesar turned around, lowered his head in deep thought, seemingly struggling with something, before finally saying, "Alright."

Upon hearing Caesar's agreement, Teddy was initially overjoyed, but then felt a pang of regret.

Judging from the degree to which the truck tires sank, you could tell that those three vehicles contained a lot of cargo.

But when Caesar agreed, Teddy felt he was being too polite and should have asked for more.

Guillermo's expression changed, and he abruptly turned to look at Caesar, as if to say something. But when he met Caesar's eyes, he understood.

Mole and Daryl remained silent, merely staring coldly at the people in the abandoned vehicle, as if they were dead.

Among the non-combatants, the murmurs grew louder, with people constantly expressing their anxiety and unease.

Carol looked at this group of idiots who still didn't understand, and just hugged Sophia tightly.

Sofia asked softly, "Mommy, will Uncle Caesar really give it away?"

Carol glanced around, then leaned close to Sophia's ear and whispered, "They really will."

"It just depends on whether they can handle it."

Sofia nodded, seemingly understanding but not quite.

"Get in the car." Caesar waved, signaling everyone to get in.

Seeing everyone start moving, Teddy asked nervously, "Are you going to give out supplies or not?"

Teddy's anxiety stemmed partly from his fear that Caesar would change his mind and they would run out of supplies, and partly from the possibility that Caesar had forced his way in.

Yes, Teddy's nervousness is understandable.

Caesar smiled warmly and waved his hand: "I'll give it to you right away. I'll tell them to get ready."

"Oh, okay, then."

Teddy nodded foolishly and watched as everyone got into the car.
