Chapter 87

Return

In the afternoon, the scorching sunlight shone above the Bison Pass.

The old, blackened car frames were piled up, barely enough to block the entire Bison Pass.

A tall heavy truck was parked not far away, with a large camping umbrella on its roof that could block most of the sunlight. There were chairs and a table under the camping umbrella.

Moore lay sprawled on the camping chair and picked up a peach from the small table beside him.

He took a casual bite, and the refreshing juice seeped into his heart. Mo'er hummed as he ate.

Standing next to Moore was a respectful and well-mannered young man.

"Toby, would you like something to eat?"

Moore nudged the fruit basket on the table, gesturing for the young man, Toby, to have a taste.

Toby smiled and stepped forward, taking a peach from the basket. "Thanks, boss."

Toby took a bite of the sweet peach, closed his eyes, and savored its rich, sweet flavor.

Toby opened his eyes and looked at Peach.

It had been so long since he had eaten fruit. The ranch's fruit production was very limited, and even core members of his combat squad didn't get a share.

In no time at all, Toby finished the whole peach.

Below the heavy truck were several members of Moore's squad, carrying guns. They would occasionally glance up and, seeing Toby eating a peach, would secretly swallow their saliva.

Not far away, there was another group of people, dressed much dirtier and more disheveled, with dull complexions and dry, yellow hair, clearly living in very poor conditions.

They were from Leon Ranch, and one of them was a burly man who looked much better.

That was Wayne, Ford's confidant and a high-ranking official at Leon Ranch.

Their gazes were undisguised, fixed on Mohr on the heavy truck and the peaches on the table.

There is almost no place in the entire valley where food is grown, let alone vegetables and fruits.

Leon Ranch doesn't even have fruit this fresh.

Wayne also looked at Moore, wondering whether he should go directly to Moore now and tell him about Ford's intention to surrender.

Surrounded by his companions, whose stench was overwhelming, Wayne frowned and took a few steps back.

Let's forget it and go find Moore when there are fewer people around.

Wayne wasn't sure if his people would have ulterior motives, so he figured it was better to be on the safe side.

However, the peach in Moore's hand looked really delicious.

Wayne turned around, wiped his drool, and then shouted at his men, "What are you looking at? Go and keep a close watch on the sentries! What if a horde of zombies comes?"

One of his men chuckled and turned to Wayne, saying, "Boss Wayne, there haven't been any walkers, let alone people, passing through Bison Pass for quite some time. Let's rest a bit more, just a little longer."

Wayne didn't give him a friendly look and kicked the man to the ground.

However, Wayne knew he was right, so he didn't use excessive force, but simply urged them, "Get up on the wall and take a look. Don't just stand here like idiots."

Driven by Wayne, several of his men dragged their feet and slowly climbed the high wall made up of abandoned vehicles.

The abandoned vehicle provided ample opportunities to climb over the high wall, and several of his men quickly scaled it. One of them grumbled irritably, "What's there to see up here? Do you think anyone's actually coming?"

He kept complaining, and the others casually chimed in.

It's perfectly normal to yell at your boss while you're working.

Before they could say two words, several people stared wide-eyed at the scene before them.

Wayne ignored them, focusing his gaze on Moore, and took small steps toward Moore's group.

Before he had taken two steps, Wayne heard his men's exclamations.

"Boss Wayne, Boss Wayne!"

"Shout, shout, shout! What are you yelling about?" Wayne turned around angrily, ready to unleash a torrent of abuse at the high wall.

When he saw the panicked look on his subordinate's face, Wayne's heart skipped a beat, and he quickly drew his sidearm.

"Someone's coming!"

Moor's side reacted quickly. When the combatants saw the few people standing frozen on the high wall, they had already raised their guns and moved closer to the wall.

Moore suddenly stood up, threw what he was holding at Toby, got off the truck, and took a long gun handed to him by a teammate.

He stretched out his hands, and his teammates put a bulletproof vest on him.

Moore looked at the team members who were already close to the high wall and shouted, "What do you see?"

"Boss, there's a convoy outside. They have a lot of vehicles, and... they look like armored vehicles or something."

Mohr's pupils contracted. An armored vehicle?

They're either a military-backed force, or they've robbed people from the military; neither of these possibilities is something to be trifled with.

Moore looked at Wayne, the two exchanged a glance, and strode toward the high wall.

Following the high wall, Moore and his companion quickly climbed up.

Moore's men followed in his footsteps, protecting him.

After climbing the high wall, Moore took out his binoculars and looked around.

In the distance, yellow sand swirls up, and you can vaguely see many military green armored vehicles roaring forward within it.

Thick armor, bulletproof glass, and blood-stained crash beams—it's clear at a glance that they're difficult to penetrate.

Moore frowned deeply. He turned to one of his team members and said, "Now, quickly contact the boss on the walkie-talkie and tell him that a convoy with military connections is coming to Buffalo Pass."

"Yes." The team member understood the seriousness of the situation, climbed down the high wall, and ran quickly towards the heavy truck to find the walkie-talkie.

Moore turned around and met Wayne's gaze.

Wayne said, "These people are not to be trifled with. Should we fight or back down?"

Wayne knew very well that even if he exhausted all his weapons, he would not be able to defeat this group based on their current strength, given the strength of his ranch.

With just a few armored vehicles and the gleaming heavy machine guns on them, Wayne didn't think the ranch people could stop them.

With Caesar and the others involved, things might not be too difficult. Therefore, More should take the lead in this matter.

After a moment's thought, Moore said, "Let's see what these people are up to first."

To Moore's surprise, Wayne, just like his underling, quickly said, "I think so too, let's wait and see."

Moore glanced at Wayne in surprise.

He had assumed that given the situation in Black Pine Valley, the people at Leon Ranch would be very hostile towards him.

Could it be... that they want to join the ranch?

A guess popped into Moore's mind, but he didn't have time to think about it further before the armored vehicles arrived at the base of the wall.

The people in the armored vehicles seemed completely unsuspecting, brazenly driving all the armored vehicles to the foot of the wall without any regard for any trenches or other traps.

Mohr raised his eyebrows, not waiting for him to test the waters.

The lead armored vehicle opened its several doors simultaneously, and several heavily armed "soldiers" stepped out.
