Chapter 6
The Foolish Andrea
From inside the iron gate came several low arguing voices, as well as some low pulling sounds.
After a few tense minutes, the iron gate opened from the inside.
Andrea pushed open the iron gate, her resentment laid bare on her face.
This woman is so naive, is she really a lawyer?
Caesar smiled as he looked at Andrea, whose face was contorted with embarrassment, and couldn't help but think to himself.
"Hello!" Caesar extended his hand first to show friendliness.
Andrea glanced coldly at Caesar a few times, then grabbed Glenn and pulled him away from Jimmy's control.
Jimmy moved his hand and looked at Caesar with a questioning look in his eyes.
Caesar shook his head slightly.
Capturing Glenn only provides an opportunity to enter the camp. It's impossible to actually use this method to forcibly drag everyone into the ranch.
Providing timely help is far more useful than adding to someone's success. The best opportunity to recruit more people is when the camp is attacked by zombies and morale plummets.
Glenn was protected by everyone like a little chick.
Jacqueline and Andrea, both Black women, were clearly overly maternal, their eyes practically overflowing with anger.
The two sides stood facing each other, and the atmosphere gradually became tense.
Andrea reached for her waist, where a silver pistol was hidden.
This action clearly elicited a reaction from the crowd.
A cold glint flashed in Rip's eyes, and his muscles tensed, ready to subdue Andrea in the next second.
Morales, who was behind her, noticed Andrea's actions and cursed under his breath.
Fuck, that stupid woman.
He stepped forward, blocking Andrea's path, and glared at her sternly, signaling her not to make any rash moves.
Morales smiled and looked at Caesar: "Come in, standing here will attract the walkers."
Caesar nodded. "Let's go."
Caesar strode into the building, passing Andrea and the others, with Jimmy, Rip, and Rick following closely behind.
After the group entered the hall, Morales closed the back door, his anger no longer concealed.
He grabbed Andrea by the collar and pressed a pistol against her forehead.
"Stupid woman, do you want to get us all killed?"
"Those guys are all carrying guns, didn't you see? If you anger them, we'll all die here. You don't care if you want to die, I just want to go back to my family."
"If you dare to do something so stupid again, I'll shoot you dead."
Morales was very agitated; his hand gripping the gun trembled uncontrollably, as if it would accidentally fire at any moment.
Startled, Andrea instantly regained her composure, opened her mouth but couldn't utter a word.
The three people nearby immediately stepped forward to mediate the fight.
"Morales, calm down, be careful not to accidentally discharge the weapon." T hugged Morales from behind, pulled him back, and whispered.
Jacques looked at Morales hopefully, reaching for Morales's arm to take the gun. Glenn, meanwhile, was scratching his head in frustration, unsure of what to do.
Morales glanced at Jacques and T-boy, glared at Andrea, and then let go.
He strode towards the lobby.
Andrea, left behind, was panting heavily, constantly rubbing her neck, which was covered in red marks.
Jacques comforted her in a low voice.
But Andrea was unmoved, angrily shoving Jacques away and blushing as she looked at Morales's retreating figure. "Do you think you're any better? You coward."
The commotion they made was quite significant, and Caesar and the others in the hall were fully aware of it.
Caesar remained silent, standing in front of the department store's main entrance.
Looking at the zombies outside the glass door, their skin was bluish-purple, their skin looked elastic, and they were quite agile.
Caesar nodded to himself. The walkers in the city were stronger than those in the countryside. They were more agile and intelligent. He wondered if it was because city dwellers ate more or because they had only recently mutated.
"Let me formally introduce myself. My name is Morales."
Morales, a Latino man with a full beard, wearing a vest and jacket, smiled and extended his hand, revealing no trace of what had just happened.
Caesar reached out and shook hands with him.
It's not even been a year since the apocalypse began, and the etiquette of peacetime can better bring people closer together.
"Just call me Caesar. This is Jimmy, this is Rip, and this is Rick."
Caesar gave a brief introduction and immediately brought Riku over.
"Morales, this Rick is quite close to your camp."
"Huh?" Morales paused for a moment, then looked at Rick more closely.
He wore a county police uniform and a police hat, his face clean and bewildered, as if he hadn't yet adapted to the apocalypse.
Rikers, holding Morales, asked, "Is my wife, Lori, at your camp?"
"Lori?"
Morales' eyes narrowed. He knew Lori's husband was a county sheriff, but wasn't he dead?
He couldn't figure it out, but he nodded anyway and responded with a smile.
Rick was very anxious about his wife and children's condition, and kept asking Morales questions.
At this moment, Andrea and the others returned to the hall.
Andrea behaved herself considerably, hiding behind the group, no longer displaying the arrogant demeanor she had just displayed.
Morales, as if grasping at a straw, hurriedly pushed Rick aside and introduced his companions.
"This is T-boy, Jacqueline, and Andrea and Glenn."
Morales then began to explain his and his companions' situation.
"We're out of supplies, so we want to keep a low profile and move around the city to get some food and supplies."
"But now the zombie riot outside has us surrounded, and we need to leave the department store immediately."
"If you still need to get supplies, you'd better hurry, or the walkers will be here soon."
As soon as he finished speaking, the zombies outside seemed to hear him, grabbed stones from the ground, and began frantically smashing the glass door.
The glass doors of the department store were of decent quality; they were hit by stones several times before cracking.
The sound of shattering glass sent a chill down Morales's spine.
Caesar nodded: "The situation is indeed critical. If you want to leave, you'd better leave now."
Morales' expression froze. He had originally planned to take advantage of Caesar and the others leaving to leave together.
Given the abilities of his companions, they most likely wouldn't be able to escape.
There's no way the people in the camp could come to the rescue.
Especially Sean, that selfish man, there's no way he'd come to save them.
Thinking of this, Morales gave a bitter smile: "Caesar, to be honest, we're trapped."
"There are too many walkers, we are too weak to escape, and we also need these supplies."
Morales readily admitted that they lacked the ability and experience to properly scout the situation beforehand.
They simply took the opportunity to find a gap in the horde of zombies and enter this area.
By the time they finished gathering supplies and were about to leave, the gap had already been filled by the horde of zombies.
"So, I want to ask you to take us out of here."
"When the time comes, we can give... half of the supplies we collect to you."
Morales realized that Caesar and his group were clearly more capable and experienced, and likely had a way to escape.
Caesar smiled and shook his head: "I'm sorry, Morales, we didn't expect things to turn out this way either, otherwise we wouldn't have come to this department store."
Why would someone agree to help someone so readily? If they agree immediately, doesn't that just mean the matter isn't difficult?
Making a slight excuse can actually increase profits.
