Chapter 32

Harvest

Martinez acted decisively, pointing to the street behind him and shouting, "Follow me, retreat, retreat!"

His hysterical shouts caused his remaining ten or so men to flee in panic.

The surrounding zombies offered no resistance, and their speed increased significantly. In an instant, the horde overwhelmed several SUVs!

As Martinez and his men fled, they attacked the walkers with guns and cannons, killing many of them while also keeping the walkers firmly in their sights.

Caesar, dressed in a blood-red robe, emerged from the street beside him, flanked by several other team members also dressed in blood-red robes.

It was Morales, T-boy, and others.

Morales asked, puzzled, "Why are we letting them go?"

Morales believed they could use the walkers to keep the group there, as long as they blocked the last street and eliminated their gunmen.

"An army driven by desperation is bound to win. If we want to keep them here, we'll have to pay a heavy price."

Caesar shook his head. If he wanted to stop Martinez and his men, Caesar would have to lead his men and charge in; otherwise, the walkers alone wouldn't be enough to stop them.

However, Caesar's side was clearly inferior to the enemy in terms of combat skills and abilities, and many of them might be killed in a single encounter.

"Have you forgotten? What was our original purpose?" Caesar turned his head, his eyes fixed intently on the market signs.

"What was the initial purpose?"

Morales muttered to himself, following Caesar's gaze, and clenched his fist, "Yes, we're here to get food."

"That's right, we just want food. The people across from us don't know us, and they've never seen us before."

"We wiped out a lot of their men and seized some spoils. Most importantly, we gained such a large food market."

As Caesar looked at the market after the smoke of battle, even though it was covered in blood and corpses, he couldn't help but feel happy.

Enough said. This food, taken back with the current convoy of twenty or thirty people, will be enough to feed them for one or two years.

Of course, this is the ideal situation.

Rice, flour, and beans can be stored for a long time, as canned goods can also be stored for a long time. Vegetables and fruits have probably rotted by now, and meat and frozen goods have mostly spoiled in the event of a power outage.

Ultimately, this attack on the food wholesale market only ensured the most basic food needs.

While it's fine to eat your fill, problems like malnutrition are inevitable.

To eat well, a good food cycle must be established on the ranch.

However, even with such ambitious goals, Caesar remained confident about the future.

"Let's go in and take a look!"

Caesar led the way into the market, where the doors were wide open.

You can see a bright red pickup truck parked there quietly, and you can vaguely see two people inside through the windows.

Several zombie corpses were lying on the passenger side.

Caesar frowned and tapped on the carriage window with the handle of his axe.

The car window slowly rolled down, revealing Daryl's masked face. The two brothers remained silent, seemingly sulking?

"What's wrong with you two?"

Caesar raised his hand and gestured towards the two men.

Daryl glanced at Moore but said nothing. Moore, usually so talkative, also remained silent.

Caesar's mind was entirely focused on the supplies stored in the market, and he couldn't be bothered with the two's troubles. He waved his hand and said, "Go back to your tantrums. It's dangerous everywhere now, don't act like a child with me."

Moore then got out of the car, and Caesar noticed the arm he was clutching. "Are you injured?"

"Take off your robes quickly, be careful of the zombie virus infection! If you get infected, you'll quickly turn into a zombie."

As Caesar issued the warning, he removed Mor's blood-stained robe, tossed it aside, and waved behind him: "Someone, bandage him up."

The dagger cut open Mor's sleeve, and he washed the wound with water to remove the filth. Fortunately, Mor's coat was thick enough that the bloodstains on his robe didn't seep in.

Then disinfect with alcohol or similar substances, and bandage the wound simply after disinfection.

Caesar then had Daryl take More to rest in the carriage, while he and his men entered the market.

Having previously communicated via walkie-talkie, Glenn and Jimmy hid in a relatively secluded and safe corner. They also checked each other and found no wounds or bite or scratch marks from the walkers on either of them.

Inside the market, corpses were scattered on the ground, along with splattered black blood and two pools of blood that had been almost licked clean.

The shops and stores in the market had long been looted, with many fruits and vegetables scattered on the ground, and mosquitoes swarming around them.

The entire market was filled with all sorts of unpleasant odors, a mixture of putrid, bloody, and musty smells.

As soon as Caesar stepped into the market, he quickly covered his mouth and nose and took out a mask to shield himself.

Morales, who was following behind, stumbled and almost fell to the ground.

T-boy raised his hand to cover his mouth and nose, desperately stuffing something between them.

"Hurry up!" Caesar waved his hand and quickened his pace.

They quickly stepped over the obstacles in the stairwell and went up to the second floor. The second floor was cluttered with miscellaneous items, clearly intended for use as a warehouse.

Caesar stopped and called out, "Glenn, Jimmy?"

"We're here!"

Just then, a knock came from a small room.

Caesar ran over, opened the door, and saw Glenn and Jimmy sitting in the small room, their faces showing relieved smiles.

Glenn took off his baseball cap, pulled out a key, and handed it to him. "I haven't let you down, Caesar."

"I've completed my mission."

Caesar paused for a moment, then smiled with satisfaction. "Yes, you've completed the mission."

"You did a great job, you did too, Jimmy."

"Next, we'll have to move some things. Let me take you out first."

Jimmy and Glenn were exhausted, so Caesar carried Jimmy on his back and T-boy carried Glenn on his back, leading them out of the market to rest.

Afterwards, Caesar returned to the parking lot where he had stayed in Atlanta and, with everyone in the parking lot, headed to the market.

Meanwhile, Caesar arranged for Daryl and other able-bodied laborers to find some large trucks to load food.

In the convoy, there were skilled workers like Jim and Dale who could repair cars and items, as well as domestic workers like Carroll, and some men who were too afraid to participate in combat.

There were about thirty people in total.

Rip had arrived at the parking lot earlier and has now followed them to the market.

Caesar glanced at Rip, who didn't speak but simply nodded.

They knew each other too well, and Caesar understood what Rip meant.

They acted swiftly and cleanly, and their objectives were crystal clear.

Caesar chuckled, put his arm around Rip, raised an eyebrow, and looked unusually smug. "You have no idea how much food we collected this time."

Rip pushed Caesar's hand away and shrugged indifferently: "I don't care."

Caesar said angrily, "When you see it, you'll be absolutely shocked."

Next, of course, comes the process of moving the food.

Pushing open the iron door of the food warehouse, Caesar leaned against it, admiring the shocked expressions on everyone's faces. His mouth was slightly agape, and his eyes were glazed over.
