Chapter 30

Martinez

The off-road vehicle pursued at high speed and quickly navigated the bend.

However, once they passed the bend, Martinez and his team lost sight of their target and could not see any trace of moving vehicles within their field of vision.

The SUV slowed down, and the driver looked up at Martinez, seeking his orders.

Martinez's face darkened, and he gave the order: "Charge forward, spread out and search!"

The nearly ten SUVs behind immediately dispersed, automatically splitting into three groups and heading in the front, left, and right directions.

The off-road vehicles were no longer synchronized, and gaps appeared between them.

Martinez's face was as black as the bottom of a pot, his fists clenched tightly, he was really unwilling to let such a fat sheep escape like this.

Just as the three convoys were getting impatient with their search, the roar of car engines came from not far away.

Martinez was overjoyed and pointed towards the source of the sound, shouting, "Chase them! Chase them!"

At that moment, he didn't care whether the other party was from the sanatorium or not; he just wanted to get some spoils as soon as possible.

He knew perfectly well that he had made such a commotion that countless zombies were chasing after him, and he couldn't stay in one direction for too long.

At Martinez's command, his SUV sped off, while the other vehicles, split into three groups, tried to turn around and follow Martinez.

Martinez was furious. He picked up the walkie-talkie and yelled, "You bunch of idiots! Don't you know how to flank us from somewhere else?"

"Don't turn around! Chase after them in that direction!"

"Immediately, right now!"

"If you don't catch them, you won't get your cigarettes and alcohol for the month!"

Martinez's roar caused the vehicles in the other two directions to pause, stop turning around, and drive off in their own directions.

Martinez was followed by a group of vehicles in this direction. After driving through a street, he saw two pickup trucks ahead.

These two pickup trucks are clearly custom-made and quite different from other models of the same type, suggesting they belong to a survivor with a campsite.

Martinez grinned excitedly, marveling at his good luck; he had just missed out on a big catch, and now another one had appeared.

Martinez patted the driver's seat: "Hurry up, full throttle. Don't let them get away!"

At that moment, the driver stepped on the gas, and the SUVs accelerated and rushed forward one after another.

Meanwhile, the cars in the other two directions, seeing the pickup truck appear in front of them, all wore greedy smiles.

He ordered a pursuit.

They've taken the bait!!!

The pickup trucks, traveling in three directions, began to circle around according to the plan they had recently devised.

Because the pickup truck was familiar with the street conditions in advance, it was faster than the vehicles chasing behind, leaving them far behind.

The distance was not far enough for Martinez and his men to fire, nor was it enough for the vehicles behind them to lose track.

As soon as the SUV slowed down slightly, the pickup truck, fearing they would lose track, also slowed down, just like fishing.

The SUV seemed oblivious and quickly accelerated to catch up.

Suddenly, the pickup trucks in both directions accelerated dramatically, instantly leaving the SUVs behind them far behind.

The pressure on the SUV increased dramatically. The driver gritted his teeth, almost pressing his foot into the gas tank, his face contorted in pain.

This time, the pickup truck didn't give the SUV a chance to catch up. After turning two corners, the SUV could no longer see the pickup truck's rear.

Fortunately, there were no other intersections on this stretch of road. The driver dared not relax his foot and kept pushing forward, hoping that he could catch up with the pickup truck after turning the corner.

However, what they didn't notice was that, at some point, a strip of spikes reflecting a cold glint appeared on the ground ahead.

The SUV drove over it without any warning, and all four tires burst instantly.

The people on the bus only heard a series of rapid, loud "bangs" accompanied by the vibration and jolts of the bus.

The driver, his face ashen, gripped the out-of-control steering wheel. He realized that this was clearly premeditated, and that he and his companions had been hunted.

The vehicle began to lose control; at high speed, the wheels scraped against the ground, leaving a trail of sparks, and it swayed from side to side.

At one point, the vehicle could no longer control the speed and overturned.

The SUV rolled over and slowly rolled to a certain spot.

Martinez climbed out of the SUV, his heart sinking and his face gradually darkening.

There was no news from the other two directions. Martinez thought of the worst-case scenario: they were both dead.

This indicates that the two cars in front have a major problem.

Sure enough, the pickup truck in front accelerated the next moment, leaving the SUV far behind in the blink of an eye.

They were hanging us!

Martinez felt his suspicions had been confirmed; they were indeed up to something!

Just as Martinez hesitated, a long chain suddenly appeared from a small alleyway on his right.

A person also darted out from the alley on the left, took the long chain from the ground, and pulled it backward.

A gleam of delight flashed in Martinez's eyes: "Grab him!"

"No, that's..." Martinez thought of the long chain on the ground. It wasn't a long chain, it was a barbed band.

bang bang-

A series of bullets struck the SUV, making a series of crisp sounds.

"Slow down, slow down!" Martinez shouted into the driver's ear as he bent over.

The driver also wanted to slow down, but at this speed, stepping on the brakes would be tantamount to suicide, so he could only release the accelerator and brake gently.

But with the spike strip right in front of them, slowing down didn't change the fact that the off-road vehicle still drove right onto it.

The sound of tires bursting filled the air, the car swayed violently, and Martinez, gripping the handle and grenade launcher, screamed hysterically at the surrounding SUVs that were also swaying:

"Everyone, grab your guns! We're going to fight our way out!"

As Martinez expected, the SUVs soon appeared in a square.

Several overturned SUVs lay on the square; it was obvious they belonged to their own people.

Two of the off-road vehicles even burst into flames.

Several of his men had already climbed out of the SUV, while others lay motionless inside.

Seeing this, Martinez felt he had suffered a great loss and wanted to retaliate.

Just then, a pickup truck pulled out from across the street. Martinez waved and shouted, "Shoot it!"

Fortunately, the SUV that Martinez was traveling in didn't suffer much damage; only the vehicle was damaged, but the driver was unharmed.

They raised their guns and fired at the pickup truck.

The pickup truck made a circle and drove straight into the market.

A realization dawned on Martinez's eyes; no wonder they went to such lengths to stop us from getting closer.

So, there's a market here.

Martinez blushed with excitement at the thought of how abundant the food in the market would be.

This must be their base!

Martinez jumped out of the SUV, leaping over the door, and ran forward, shouting, "Charge! Kill those bastards!"

"It's full of food! It's all ours!"

Perhaps out of panic, or perhaps out of greed, in an instant, whether wounded or uninjured, they grabbed their weapons and charged forward with Martinez.
