Chapter 68
There's a problem with Chapter 68.
"Our ranch doesn't lack people for production right now; we have plenty of reserves. But the ranch lacks combat personnel, and I think you'd be perfect for that."
Caesar's words startled Carol. She was confident that she was gradually gaining control over herself, but she didn't expect to have much combat power.
Carol clasped her hands to her chest, her fingers fidgeting nervously. "What does the boss mean?"
"I mean, let Daryl train you." Caesar smiled and patted Daryl on the shoulder, as if he had high hopes that Daryl could teach Carol well.
"I?"
Daryl, who was standing to the side like an invisible man, was looking at the fruit on the table when Caesar suddenly patted him on the shoulder. He looked at Caesar in confusion.
Caesar picked up a peach from the table and handed it to Daryl. "Yes, it's you."
Daryl took the peach, wiped it on his clothes, took a big bite, and mumbled a refusal.
"I'm very busy here and can't bring women with me."
Carol looked at Daryl, but she could tell that there was no disdain in Daryl's eyes.
Caesar was not surprised, knowing that Daryl disliked trouble, especially things like taking care of children and training people.
"You don't need to teach Carol anything, you just need to have Carol follow you."
"Right, Carol?"
After saying that, Caesar looked at Carol, glanced at her, and reminded her to agree.
Carol nodded in agreement.
Carol knew that Caesar meant well. It was like learning from a top student. Even if the top student didn't have a teacher, just watching how they studied and solved problems would be a great improvement for a struggling student.
By following Daryl, Carol will be able to learn more survival skills through observation and exposure.
Daryl finished the peach, glared at Caesar with annoyance, sucked the peach juice from between his fingers, and strode towards the door.
Daryl soon left the study, leaving Caesar and Carol alone.
Caesar pointed to the study door and said, "Hurry up and follow him, he's agreed."
No sooner had she finished speaking than Daryl's impatient voice came from outside the door: "Are you coming or not, woman?"
Carol smiled and nodded to Caesar in thanks, then walked toward the door.
Amy, dressed in a business suit, walked in, closed the study door, let out a long breath, and relaxed completely before collapsing onto the sofa with a thud.
"Ugh, I'm so tired."
Caesar chuckled, stepped forward, bent down, and pinched Amy's cheek: "Who told you to wear this business suit?"
Amy's face was pinched into an "O" shape, and she moved her lips up and down, mumbling, "I'm your secretary. Wouldn't it be better if I dressed professionally to show your competence?"
"Outward appearance doesn't indicate ability. If you're not feeling well, go change into something more comfortable."
Amy frowned, shook her head adorably, and was very stubborn.
"Carol went with Daryl, so who will take care of her?"
"You."
Caesar pointed at Amy and said.
Amy pointed at herself, looking bewildered. "Me?"
"Yes, get Andrea and Beth to help you. I believe the three of you can do a good job."
Amy hesitated for a moment, then said, "Won't Andrea be punished? She leaked the information to others."
"You know Andrea, although she's reckless, arrogant, and foolish, she still knows what's important."
Caesar explained.
Andrea has many flaws, but her abilities are also quite strong; she is very powerful in combat, but she's not very bright.
I really don't know how she passed the bar exam.
Caesar was completely baffled.
"Anyway, you can listen to Andrea's opinion, and you can also listen to Beth's opinion. Just try to have your own ideas."
"Will my men obey me?" Amy was still a little worried.
Previously, when we were in the caravan, we required each member to have the ability to deal with zombies, which almost caused a fight.
Caesar chuckled and tapped Amy's smooth forehead. "Have you forgotten who you are?"
Amy lay on the sofa, staring blankly at Caesar. Two buttons of her white knitted shirt were undone, revealing a deep rip.
"Do you know what 'pillow talk' means? They won't give you a hard time, don't worry."
"And with Beth around, she's much fiercer than you think."
"All right."
As they whispered to each other, the two slowly pressed themselves together, and then, they were pressed one on top of the other.
……
Daryl, with his men, reached the border of Caesar's Ranch.
With the addition of four new ranches and the connecting zones between the five ranches, Caesar Ranch has expanded nearly tenfold.
Even Caesar's own combat squads have to rely on horseback or cars to patrol the entire ranch, otherwise they would spend the whole day walking.
Daryl laid the motorcycle down, using the scattered branches around it to cover it, and reached for the crossbow on his back.
Carroll followed Daryl's example, walking step by step, holding a pistol with the muzzle pointing downwards, trailing behind Daryl.
Daryl looked around and found a mark on the tree, which he had left yesterday.
"You two go over there, you go to the right, I'll take the middle." Daryl could only command three people; the other squad members listened to Moore more.
Seeing the three people disperse, he picked up his weapon and walked away into the distance.
Carol looked around and asked, "What are we doing here?"
Carol was unfamiliar with the area; the ranch had been integrated, but most of the residents had never been here before.
Daryl adjusted his quiver, glanced at Carol, and said curtly, "We've conquered this land, and we must defend it."
"We just took over this area, and we need to check if there are any walkers left. Do you want to see walkers wandering outside your daughter's house?"
Carol shook her head to herself. "I understand."
Seeing that Carol had nothing more to say, Daryl looked at her with a strange expression.
The two worked together to clear the area in that direction.
The area is vast, but the number of zombies is small; often, a single zombie is hidden within a large area.
But not cleaning it up is not an option, as it would pose a safety hazard to the ranch.
Fortunately, after a day of cleaning, all areas have been completely cleaned.
Carroll sat on the back of Daryl's motorcycle, with a pickup truck following beside him.
The wind was strong, and Carol squinted as it blew, crouching down to use Daryl's body to avoid the howling wind.
As they approached the ranch, Daryl slowly stopped his motorcycle, raised his right hand, and signaled the pickup truck behind him to stop.
Both cars fell silent instantly. Daryl gave Carroll a wink, signaling her to inform the other three that something was wrong.
He, on the other hand, continued forward alone.
